Are any of you running the steam version with Oculus VR? There’s a lot of talk of it being shit on reddit, but the odd hint of that having since been fixed. Cdkeys are knocking out the full deluxe version very cheap right now so I’m tempted, but not if it’s going to run badly.

^ I think it was fixed, seemed to run fine for me anyway, don’t know if it’s been broken again after that though.

Came back to this in the last few days, as the first couple of PS+ days this thing just didn't work at all.

 

It's much more agreeable that it's predecessor.

 

Those mileage stats on the splash loading screens are totally wrong though surely? Has no one noticed that and fixed them in over a year?

Did you end up getting this? Thinking of getting it myself but not sure if the version on CD Keys supports VR guess it must as its the same game....

@MattyP it says it does, it's just it's the Steam key not an Oculus store one. Earlier, that was bad news as the Steam version didn't include proper Oculus support for some reason but I gather that's been fixed. The download's 100GB and I've not bothered doing that part quite yet, will do soon!

I did this over the weekend - CD Keys, 109Gb download, played in VR using Oculus Quest Link.

 

Took me ages getting VR to work. The link kept disconnecting then the game and/or the oculus software kept crashing. After ages gnashing my teeth and bemoaning how much simpler VR is on the playstation, a reboot seemed to sort it out. Admittedly, I'm new to this PC VR stuff having only bought my PC last week after a PC gaming gap of *ahem* 15 years.

 

It did work though, but by that time I was too frustrated to give it a proper play. I did notice that the deluxe version gives you over 2M credits to start with, which is nice.

Is Finland in a DLC pack? Only I played a Weekly Event and it was Finland and it loaded up despite me not having the DLC and I played through one of the stages. Haven't seen it in the list since!

Yeah, it was a dirt rally 1 track so was in one of the "Seasons".

How odd it let me play it without purchase/download then. Clearly its included in the base game download and perhaps the event hadn't locked it properly.

Got this all running OK. Seems a bit buggy at times and failed to launch a couple of times but once it's working all good with the Oculus S.

 

Seems to be pretty unplayable with the default settings on the pad will set the wheel up at some point and give it a try on that....

I just gave it a quick razz - Colin's Impreza in the Free Roam area and then a couple of stages in the classic Mini rally - and all seemed well. Not sure if it's just the car/tracks chosen but I found the handling a lot easier on pad than I do in the first game. The graphics defaulted to low on everything but I found I could comfortably put them on high without issue.

The GOTY version is £15.99 on PSN at the moment. The listing has the file size as 27GB but it's actually a 79GB download.

The year one DLC is half price at £8 on PSN at the moment. That’s a lot of content for under a tenner.

Apologies for the rez, but I have been looking up the games from the last few years that I missed and intend to catch up on at some point, and this caught my attention. Big fan of Colin McRae games back in the PS1 era.

 

I was mainly just wondering what the situation is re always-online drm these days, as that sticks out as a bit of a red flag to me in most things?

Not 100% sure but if you are a Colin fan get WRC9 instead

yeah i agree wrc9 is more like the older cmr games. well the wider tracks are anyway. dirt 2 is still great too mind.

 

not played recently don't remember having many problems with the always online, think it was something to do with you had to be online to play the career mode, and maybe once or twice it wouldn't let me - but i think that only happened when there was a spike in users like on release or when it was on gamepass or psn+ or something.

dirt is much less forgiving, probably a more realistic rally game, really narrow tracks, and (although rare) you can have to retire from a rally from a small mistake. and i don't think i'd play it without a wheel, although i'm sure a lot of people do.

 

wrc9 is a bit more arcade, more forgiving, some wider tracks - i really like the wider tracks they remind me of the old cmr games (there are some really narrow tracks too where it's more like dirt rally, and i think later cmr games had narrow tracks too), you won't have to retire from mistakes. and it plays well with a pad imo (although i still think it's better with a wheel).

I really don't think the tracks are that narrow in DR2, the main difference between the two games is the variation in stage widths.  DR2s stay fairly consistent, whereas WRC9s vary wildly, from wide open plains on the safari rally to single track tarmac in Japan.

 

DR is definitely less forgiving as the road side furniture/rocks are real objects and will take bites out of the car.  in WRC9 a lot of the small rocks at the roadside are just for show and don't have any effect on the car at all.

 

DR2 in VR is absolutely glorious too.

Yeah, don’t buy the vanilla version of Dirt 2 as it’s so lacking in content and kept me away from the game on release.

 

But in a sale, I got the complete edition and it’s got shed load of cars, great tracks and honestly, it’s my favourite rally game of all time.

 

Big thumbs up on Dirt 2 but only if it’s got all the content.

Had a weird urge to play this and wow. To say this is a PS4 game it looks pretty dandy on PS5, and I’m pretty sure it didn’t get a PS5 update. 
 Anyone still playing it? How about the Rallymuk club having a championship for old times sake?

It's amazing in VR if you can give it a go. Rock hard with a wheel though. Like most rally sims.

The year one pass is £3.99 on PSN (75% off) and includes the Colin McRae dlc. Agree with @Junkerthat this looks much better than I remember, now that I’m playing on PS5 rather than PS4. It’s much harder/easier to crash than WRC 9 but I’m getting on with it much better on PS5 and finding it less frustrating with a controller than I did on PC with wheel.
