Ah, I missed the 'offline' in your comment. I'd like a working career mode and a permanent record of times, was what I meant.

What if it did the server thing for time-trial mode but not career? Surely career isn't a level playing field for setting times anyway, thanks to the surface degradation etc.?

True, but it's also nice to always track your times, even with the surface changes etc.  It's kind of a moot point now, as RaceNet seems much better over the last couple of days.

@SharkyOB How do the time trial leaderboards work? Can you filter to specific cars or is it one leaderboard per track per class?

I haven't noticed any filtering options, it appears to be one leaderboard per track, per class.  I'll have another look later though.  The main thing that's changed is that the leadboards are now cross-platform, which is a huge improvement.

When is this properly released btw?

The leaderboards actually logging your time straight after finishing a stage would be a big improvement over DR1. In that, you would finish a race, beating your best time, check the leaderboard and see your old time. There was an annoying lag that I really hope is now gone.

The ffb doesn't feel that different to the first game, to me at least. If you got on with that I think you'd be fine with this one too.

There’s a lot of talk about lack of road feel, how smooth it is, how there’s more surface feel (bumps) in F1 etc.? With the track deformation, do you feel the pull of ruts on the wheel? What about the roughness of the terrain, do you feel the bumps?

I just played through Germany in DR1, I forgot how bad the tarmac stages were in that, are they any better in this?

It's hard to say for sure, thinking back the stages do feel smooth.  I also don't think I've driven enough on rutted stages to know for sure how much that affects things.

Tarmac feels fine to be, but I was happy with the feel in the last game too.

I thought it was my wheel initially , it was so light, so I tried Wales and realised it wasn’t!

Codemaster’s have a least said they’re looking at FFB so maybe there is some issue they can patch.

It would be good to know from @McSpeed or anyone who was on beta or had review version if the release version feels any different?

I can't keep myself on the road! Not sure if it's just the old escort I'm driving but really struggling in this first championship im doing.

if it's rear wheel drive then yeah it's the car, those are loads harder to drive than the front or 4 wheel drive ones. good luck!

FFB is fine for me, nicely weighted. Using T300 RS on PS4.

However I did see a Tweet from Codies mentioned FFB issues due to the RaceNet problems I think, which seems a bit odd.

Will play again on Saturday when I get back from F1 testing ;)

Game is difficult!

It is! I found myself doing some extra rallies in the Lancia Fulvia to gain confidence. Then got better with the Escort and 240Z by practicing quite a lot. And generally being much more cautious than DR 1.

This too, though even the FWD R2 cars feel a bit feisty.

Got on well with the Skoda Fabia R5 though.

On pad or wheel?

(Wheel is actually harder!)

Sid - check you've configured the rotation for your wheel - you can compare the in-car wheel to yours for rotation. They should match. If not then your inputs often are massively over or under what feels natural. I also use gears for 'engine braking' when approaching corners, so downshift early. It's a little cheaty I guess, but hey....

Learn the stages a bit will help - 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are your friends - any more and you're really motoring. Also its all about not 100% throttle, often using the throttle to 'gun' out of corners is effective, although in a RWD, it may not have the intended consequences :P

Use the mini - it's a little more forgiving since the FWD can pull it out or round most things. Don't go 100%.  After a few stages it will hopefully all start to 'click'...

I had a mess about with my ffb/wheel settings last night and it seems to have made a big difference to the game.  I pretty much followed the steps in this (YouTude dickhead, no gloves) video:

PC only for the main part of this fix unfortunately, as it involves making a change to the game's .xml file for game controllers.  Not sure if the video mentions this, but I also changed my wheel's saturation to 60%, which has given me much quicker control over the car.

Good to hear you’ve improved FFB, I won’t buy it until they patch it though as I spent more time farting around with FFB files in PCars1 than playing it and don’t want to go down that road again. Hopefully they’ll patch soon as I’m itching to play it.

In the meantime, now that I’ve got a DriveHub for PS4 I’ve resurrected F1 2017 and I’m really enjoying it with a wheel.

Perhaps but not really as ultimately it’ll be cheaper when I do get it. If there had been no RaceNet or FFB issues I’d have bought Deluxe early release or whatever they call it, so it’s Codies that are losing out at the moment.

Agreed, £74.99 for the PS4 Digital Deluxe version is just crazy (as is £54.99 for standard), not sure if they thought it’s niche and won’t sell much so we need to charge early adopters/fans as much as possible but after On Rush I’d have thought a new strategy was required. Dirt 1 felt like a bit of a fan project, Dirt 2 feels very commercial, fair enough, they’re in it to make money but I just think their strategy is wrong for this title.
