But your hands shouldn't be if they're in the 10 to 2 position.

I’ve tried both methods and I found button on the wheel difficult (not impossible!) while steering in Dirt Rally. I used to have a G29, but it broke. All i’m saying is that fixed position button is better in my opinion so if you’ve got a T300, give it a go.

I've never tried using a fixed position button on the base of the wheel, may not be a bad option actually.

Also, I'd highly recommend to NEVER hold your wheel at the 10 to 2 position when racing - or even when driving a road car! 15 to 3 is a more relaxed and controlled position, both allowing for more steering lock without taking your hands off the wheel AND making your arms tense up less :)

I've been scouring Codies forums to try to find out about leagues and someone replied saying they're coming soon. Not sure how official that source is but I sure hope so.

Me too, that's great news if so.  Defo should have been in the game at release though.

Yeah, I'm actually in 15 to 3 due to where my flappy paddles are.  Just always think of it as 10 to 2, and 15 to 3 doesn't have the same ring to it :D

Are you late for meetings a lot?

I cracked and bought a handbrake (analogue, natch) from fleabay - I couldn't keep the button version within reach during sharp turns.

Looking forward to trying DR2 with a proper control set...

Can you send a link?

I played this for the first time last night and my reaction was, "What the hell happened?". I'm a big fan of Dirt Rally but I'm very disappointed in this.

Right off the bat in the menus it tells me "The championship is the main game". I can't access this though because I have to be  connected to Racenet and I don't have internet. Why the bloody hell do I need Internet access to play a single player championship? DR1 didn't.

XBox OG graphics are awful. No exaggeration, they're worse than DR1 which wasn't exactly a looker but in DR2 the lighting and graphics are flat, dull, and lacking in detail. As for the brightness of the headlamps I might as well strap a torch to the bonnet for all the good they are.

The co-driver's voice as he reads out the pace notes sound exactly like they come straight from the recording studio rather than Codemasters doing anything to make it sound like the voice of a co-driver sitting next to you.

But the worst thing, and most important, is the handling. In DR1 one of the first cars you can drive is the Alpine. I fell in love with this car instantly, I was able control drifts very well and, like the other cars, feels like there''s a solid connection  with the ground, only losing grip when going fast. It was THE car I returned to a lot after driving the faster modern cars. So trying out the Alpine in DR2 it just feels like it''s floating rather than touching the ground and has a weird wallowing oversteer feeling. It's really not good at all. DR1''s basic road handling not only felt much better but it felt instantly right to me, leaving me to learn the characteristics of the vehicle.

I've read someone on here saying the engine has been built from the ground up, and if true then this is a case of it NOT being a good thing.

DR1 felt like a labour of love, and is why I could forgive the poorer visuals (compared to other driving games) and the bare bones content. DR2 feels like its been developed by a team who had no idea what actually made DR1 one of the best rallying games to come out in years.

I've no intention of playing this again.

I’ve been playing this over the past week. First impressions were very negative. This is the first game I’ve played on PS4 (standard) where it is clearly optimised for something more powerful. The graphics are rough at times. It has this resolution scaling that turns the image quality to mud. 90% of the time it’s fine, then it turns to shit and it’s awful. It affects some stages more than others. Frame rate is fine thankfully.

Outside of that, the game has issues. The force feedback is missing a lot of the surface effects that were in the first game. This will no doubt be added in a patch. The AI balance seems rough too. It’s definitely not right. They probably released it 6 months too early.

But, and it’s a big but, this game is fantastic. They’ve somehow improved the physics and handling and it drives like a dream. It feels a little bit easier to drive than the first game, definitely less frustrating, but not dumbed down. The cars feel nice and weighty and the sense of acceleration and deceleration is great. The sliding feels so, so good.

The courses are more forgiving than the first game, which also helps to control the frustration level. Don’t worry, the challenge is still there. Style-wise, they feel a bit samey. Over an 8 mile run I’d like to see a lot more variety in the scenery. The art style is hit and miss. Some of the lighting effects are good, but sometimes it’s garish, bloomy and cheap looking. Overall I prefer the more restrained style of the first game. Happily, the DLC will add the original stages back in and on the basis of Monte Carlo and Sweden they have done a nice job.

Good to hear you’re enjoying it, they’re taking their time with any patch though which is a sad state of affairs considering it’s so important for a rally game imo. Makes you wonder wether they can fix it or it’s an inherent/insurmountable problem in the game engine which is incompatible with the surface changing stuff.

They’ve said that they’re looking at it, and I think they’ve set expectations that it will be fixed. However, I don’t trust Codemasters one little bit. I have a real love / hate relationship with them.

Gosh I've only just found the time to start playing the first one, which I bought.. well let's say at least a year ago! I've loved hooning my Fulvia (one of my dream cars!) through the breakneck Norwegian stages. Assume this is more of the same, but sounds like it has slightly less content. Sounds like I needn't rush to get #2.
