Latest Saturn arrivals......:omg::omg::omg::omg:

I love Kingdom Grandprix and its fantastic OST so much.

I never did get around to playing it with the race mechanic switched off..or ever play it properly (or Batsugun) on a vertical CRT. Must remedy this at some point.

They're well worth giving a go!

I'll have to try Kingdom Grand Prix with the race mechanics turned off, didn't even realise it was an option. It's the leading cause of me losing lives on this game with about 97% of them lost because I'm pressed to the top of the screen!

Thanks, I'm pretty pleased with them!

The three shooters came with a few PS1 games (Geki'oh, Raiden Project, Misadventures of Tron Bonne and Gear Fighter Dendoh) and were from Yahoo Auctions and got bundled up by my proxy in Japan, so technically separate, but I got them all together. Sam Sho III was a speculative eBay bid, £10 delivered from Japan.

@phillv85 - Would you recommend Buyee or From Japan for a first timer?

Buyee were brilliant for years for me, but I recently had an issue with a package I got. It was missing one of the games I bought (KoF99 on PS1, cost 200 yen) but because I hadn't paid for insurance and inspection on delivery on the item when I bought it on YAJ they basically told me they don't care. They said their records show it was put in the box (it wasn't I couldn't possibly have missed it). I asked if they could check the warehouse and they said no which meant

If you're going after just higher value games and are happy with the extra 500 yen insurance and inspection then I'd say go for buyee. It's the more professional of the two, but if you're going for a bit of everything (like me) then I'd say use From Japan. The fees are a bit lower on FJ, the trade off being you have to pay via credit card rather than Paypal which Buyee takes. Again, it can save you money if you're paying on a no fee credit card paying in local currency rather the less than stellar exchange rate PayPal runs.

Both websites have built in searches on their sites which makes navigating it a whole lot easier. For searches, unfortunately they have to be done in Japanese. There's a really helpful thread over on arcade otaku which has translations for a whole load of stuff. Also on buyee you can narrow down by genre after choosing the system if you just want to see what's on there.

Apologies if linking to another forum is not allowed, please delete, but here's a really good guide: https://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2989

Mednafen via OpenEmu on Mac is pretty much spot on.. and my iMac is a late 2013 model!

I read your post last night Pastry, having never heard of OpenEmu, and was inspired to give it a try. Wow, you’re not wrong! I’ve only tried Sega Rally, but it was flawless to mein eye. No glitches, smooth frame rate - the emulator ‘just works’, once you add the BIOS’, and it even works with the 8bitdo M30, which is a Bluetooth controller, but I couldn’t detect any input latency.

Having tried the Windows version of Mednafen in the past and come away suitably impressed - this is much, much better. And no command like to mess around with! I think OpenEmu’s lack of faff is what impresses most.

Cant wait to try something else tonight after work.

That’s great @Popo - you’re right, some people like the tinkering but I am happy loading up games and just playing them - to me it’s pretty much the same as a real Saturn. I just need that 6-button analogue pad!!

Don’t be afraid to give NTSC-J Touring Car a fair go, it’s still a bit broken but pretty fun if you like SEGA arcade racers. Way better than the PAL release!

what kind of Mac is it out of interest - still amazed how well everything runs on my old thing, including GameCube (OpenEmu) and DC (ReDream)

Enjoy!

2020 MacBook Air with the M1 chip - I expected OpenEmu to run poorly as I assume it’s still an x86 app and hasn’t been converted to the M1 architecture, but that’s not the case at all, it runs fantastically. I assume the Rosetta x86 emulator is just really really good!

After getting a GameCube loader I'm finding the Satiator rather disappointing. All the images etc for the GC loader makes it feel like a library of games rather than a list of ISOs. It's a shame the front end isn't a little nicer.

Get the Rings loader, it looks nicer and is updated frequently: https://github.com/retrohead/satiator-rings

The vanilla Satiator software is and always has been an unglorified menu, by the creator's own admission. He's more busy with the hardware side of things. I'm sure once Rings is inevitably incorporated as the default loader and gets five years of updates like Swiss has had, it'll look a bit better at least.

Hopefully when Retro Bit finally release their Dreamcast controller we'll be able to use it on a Saturn too - the dongles can sync with any 2.4ghz pad, so you can use the Mega Drive one with the Saturn receiver and vice versa etc.

I got an Action Replay a few days ago as I didn’t want to mod this Saturn. It’s a launch unit and pretty perfect.

Not flashed the cart either as I have another Saturn with Fenrir for that sort of thing.

How are you connecting it to an LCD? Thinking of getting my Saturn out of storage.
