Also I'm just never bothering with Terraonion in general - they might have improved over time, but there's still a very sour taste in the mouth from their general online interactions, aggression, releasing customer details publicly, and so on and so forth. Great products I'm sure, but not a company for me.

Oh what's that, Terraonion are a bag of pricks? (this was in response to Krikkz of Everdrive fame posting that he'd escaped literal war and was now safe in Spain):

Terraonion manufacture flash carts and optical drive emulators for various retro systems. They were initially based in Spain, now they're based in Andorra. They make well-regarded products, but already had a reputation for being... well, arseholes. They produce the MODE, which is an optical drive emulator for the Saturn and Dreamcast.

Krikkz is a well-known manufacturer of flash carts based in Ukraine. A couple of years ago, he released a product called the Mega Everdrive Pro which directly competes against Terraonion's existing Mega SD, in that they're both Mega Drive flash carts that emulate the MegaCD hardware and allow ISOs of Mega CD games to be run on standard Mega Drive consoles without an actual Mega CD add-on attached. Krikkz's product is slightly less feature-rich, but is also smaller and cheaper. He recently had to escape Ukraine because of the war there and fled to Spain, where he has pre-existing ties. Terraonion figured this would be an excellent opportunity to tweet a dig at them.

The Terraonion owner has acted like a massive cunt a few times so this is unsurprising but absolutley the lowest of the low.

The first version of the PC-E Super SD System 3 was basically fucked on launch and quite badly made before the community reached out to help him for the further revisions.

The fact they register devices to download firmware updates - that only work on that specific device - is fucking shitty as fuck to.

I have two MODE's and I downloaded the firmware to find it only worked on one of the two devices as that actual download is locked to that device.

I own a last revision Super SD System 3, a Mega SD and two MODEs, so have used the company a fair amount but do not intent to support them with any further products as this is the shittiest possible behaviour.

In addition to @Zio's post above,

I'd like to add that the one-sided beef towards Krikzz from Alex-from-Terraonion is something that became apparent soon after the launch of the Mega SD, with nasty  barbs thrown at their now direct competitor on twitter, Reddit, YouTube comments, discord channels, who knows where else. I just saw a lot of it because Alex was out in full force evangelising their new device in loads of places it was being discussed, and I was hugely into it. I would have bought one  myself had my decades-in-storage Mega CD not turned out to be in perfect working order, but I digress.

In contrast, Krikzz - when he'd dignify the odd troll comment from Alex with a response - never lost his cool, always acted a gentleman, continued to work on supporting his new and old products and generally being the community pillar that's he's become known for.

If I'm remembering correctly, the personal Twitter account Alex used to use was self-nuked following another backlash, this time related to publicly pressuring the creator of the SD2SNES / FXPAK Pro to join forces with Terraonion with view to designing a new SNES device.

I think the TO owner has been paranoid and mentally unwell to the point of being consumed by hatred and jealously for a good while. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Thanks for this! What a horrible thing to do.

Have they fixed the quality issues on the retrobit Saturn dpads?

Had no problems with mine, but worst case they are interchangeable with the original parts so if you have an old original port Saturn pad you can put that D Pad into the retrobit pad. Same with the buttons and membranes all the same size. Then you get the true authetic sega feel (apart from the slightly off shoulder buttons) but with a USB connection.

The early batches had a faulty cross behind the d-pad that would snap rendering some directions useless. If it was a clean break they could be superglued but wasn't ideal.

I didn't know this!

They seem to have got good reviews, I wanted them for street fighter and mortal Kombat, maybe not a good choice?

Also retro arch is being a pain the ass with them.

I fucking love the Saturn.

i love the stupid chunky design (see also: neogeo cd. I love the flap on the back with the battery storage. And the cart slot. And the… controllers?

it’s more of a “console” than the ps1 design, you get me?

it’s even better in white.

might have to get a jpn launch saturn, in grey, to “complete the set”.

yeah…

If you've a model 1 V0 PAL Saturn, I've got a grey shell you can swap over, just sitting about, waiting for a VA0 working console to turn up, infact, I think I have two of them tbh.
