Surely at that price point you just repurpose a plastic case and get a new cover printed. It’s hardly like these covers are impossible to match exactly now.

I can only see one problem with this plan...

My local Surugaya had Cotton Boomerang for a not too bad 15,000 yen.  I snapped it up, as it was in nice condition.

Wow, I don't blame you. Been trying to replace my copy for years, but jokers online want £300 for it.

Has anyone used the Retro-Bit Saturn pads and the 8BitDo M30 (the one based on an MD six-button controller)?

I have the latter which is my best option for fighters on Switch but I've heard enough about Saturn pads to be intrigued by the Retro-Bit version if they're noticeably "better" in that regard. I mean, the pads are the whole reason I'm shite at Darkstalkers. And Street Fighter, KoF, Garou, Waku Waku 7 and the rest.

Would anyone be interested in grouping in for a Satiator delivery?

They’re expensive by default but the biggest killer is the shipping (default is $155 on top of the costs of the item, import duties etc) however the shipping price doesn’t really change if you order more than 1 so I thought if a few people wanted to chip in it would make the shipping a bit more bearable. It’s still gonna be expensive though.

Did you ever get round to doing this?

I might be interested, but I also may have missed the boat!

Got a Retrobit for my Saturn and it's great.

Also have an M30 for the Switch and that's fantastic for fighting games too.

I used to have an officially-licensed white USB one for PSP that I used for MAME (can't remember the manufacturer) and that was also spot-on but the d-pad wore out and became unresponsive with surprisingly little use.

Thanks all - I have too many pads as it goes so I might just stick with the M30 for now. Good to know that Retro-Bit sound equally solid though.

I can't see that they do a white one which would break me though, something about the albino Saturn just presses all my sensitive places.

The Saturn is a major blind spot for me, and I think it’s the only console I haven’t owned (or even used) since the 16-bit days.

Are there any good games that:

1. Still play well today

2. I might not have played on another platform

Not including fighting games cos I’m rubbish at them lol.

For fans of the platform, which games do you go back to again and again?

Thanks!

Can I ask an emulation question? I own the original version on disc of Shining Force III, which I've only ever played a bit of and would like to get back into, given that I re-played SF I&II last year and it works on an emulator but looks like arse. Both of the emulators I have tried claim to have scaling options, but nothing seems to actually work and it is still running at the original resolution. Is there a trick I'm missing? I've tried Saturn emulators in Retroarch and also standalone, to no avail and it's frustrating.

I also have Mystaria (a SRPG) that I'd like to play but that looks even worse at native res. Can anybody help?

Back again to see if anybody can offer any help on this.

I've tried various emulators (through Retroarch and standalone) but I can't seem to get any upscaling to work, no matter what I do and it is frankly pretty annoying, because it would be nice to get rid of some of the rough edges to these games. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Trying to find out a bit more information on this console I picked up. It's an 'official' bundle as it's got the Sega type sticker on the front, and it did indeed come with 2 pads and 5 games all in the later plastic cases. I can't find any info so this might be one of the very last variants available. Anyone come across one of these before?

Thank you but it's long gone now :D

 sorry, just saw it. I only remember it cos I was going to get that exact bundle but ended up going to Dixons instead to haggle for some extra accessories instead of all 5 games.

was buying RF units until 2003

Sega Manx TT is light on content but fun to play and cheap to pick up.

I can't get on with the handling in Manx TT at all, never have been able to. Give me Sega Touring Car instead, any day!

I'm really just calling out how poor the handling in Manx TT is.. it's either understeer or accidental uncontrollable oversteer. Sure, you can make a smooth turn with the analogue pad, but it'll be understeering around all but the shallowest bend... apply a bit more and if you're not careful you'll suddenly be wrapped around inside barrier.

Feels like it was built for a d-pad, as playing it with quick taps of the analogue stick feels much more controllable. I just don't like how it controls at all. It's not satisfying. STCC might have a crap (PAL) framerate and some odd steering characteristics, but at least it's fun!

Anyway managed a 1:16:40 around the full TT circuit, time trial with bike #8 - that was the latest #SplashWaveRacing challenge on Twitter for those interested. See if you can do better! Honestly, I didn't enjoy it at all. Best times were around 1:13:XX

The handling isn't great in ManxTT with a digital pad, no. But Jesus, Sega Touring Car is one of the worst games on the Saturn. Just horrible. I still have my copy from when I bought it on day of release - it sort of serves as a reminder for actually reading some reviews before parting with cash.
