Why's Zero 3 so expensive? Is it based off a different arcade revision to the other home console ports?

Seems to be around the £120 mark at present ebay is always the extreme high end and you have a lot of jokers pushing up the price.

Both the PS1 and Dreamcast, ports altered the hit detection badly, even worse then the arcade release of SFA3 which had issues. The Saturn port used the arcade engine with extra fixes, but only had the PS1 modes, it lacked the Dreamcast extra modes.

However on release it had the most animation even more than the DC version according to some sources, the Saturn port was cancelled, but there was such an out cry by Sega fans it got one, but only after the Dreamcast port. Certainly the Sega Saturn pads are by far the best joypad to play it on.

These days it is over taken by the PSP release which had additional character not found in any other version and the PS2 Street Fighter Alpha Anthology which also included a perfect port of the arcade release of upper and tons of extras modes to boot. Make the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection look like the utter garbage it is.

Have absolutely no idea how some of you guys got through JPN Policenauts. It’s really not non-language friendly, and you would have missed so much storyline wise as it’s borderline interactive movie, from what I’ve seen so far.

I just ran into Meryl. At first I thought it linked the universes and was wetting my pants but reading up it sounds like she was re-purposed for MGS.

Enjoying it for sure, there’s a lot of detail in there.

I can't believe I forgot Battle Garegga :D

I played that for the first time this evening... well kinda, there’s a demo included with Soukyugurentai I didn’t know about!

For Japanese games, I don’t think Samurai Shodown IV has been mentioned? It’s pretty awesome (uses a 1mb RAM cart although I’m not sure if it’s essential?!)

I always liked Shienryu, too - nice vertical shooter, faintly reminiscent of Truxton/Tatsujin.

I used to own it but found it a little tame (there's some nice bosses mind). Of course it now goes for a lot of money. Doh!

I'm sure I read somewhere that it gets progressively harder based on how you play and that some players purposely throw away a life in order to reset the difficulty. I could be wrong about that mind. Also, I love that it's a Japanese hardcore shooter and like Souky, is published by EA

yeah that's right, some shmups have rank that makes the game harder based on various things that you do, in battle garegga it's quite extreme, even shooting and collecting pickups makes the rank go up iirc, so people who are really good at it will kill themselves to reduce the rank (it doesn't reset, just goes down a bit/lot i don't know). but yeah i just die through being rubbish at it before that becomes an issue :)

This video explains things pretty well

Doesn't really go into the collision issues at all with all the different versions, but does show all the animation issues off perfectly.

Wouldn't worry about the Saturn version it got a port on the PS2 along side its sequel as Simple 2000 Series Vol. 37: The Shooting: Double Shienryu, also got a PAL release as Steel Dragon EX, but the PAL release was 50Hz only.

Battle Garegga also now falls in the its awesome, but you can get it on PS4 now, so not a Saturn exclusive anymore.

If you want a gem of 3D fighting game on Saturn then Zero Divide The Final Conflict is great, much better than the two PS1 games I felt.

I've spent the last three nights trying to clear Virtua Cop.

Bloody hell I'm crap at it. Using nine continues with nine lives for each and I still can't do it

Really entertaining though. It's a little slow in its movement and very basic, but it gets quite heated once they all start firing at you in quick succession.

It's proven to be a nice alternative to Panzer Dragoon Saga as I'm switching between the two.

For full arm ache and feeling of getting on a bit I like to attempt it on my own but in 2 player mode.

It's superb! I seem to remember there was a gamesmaster episode of someone completing this (might have been a different light gun game) at once but across 2 arcade machines :)

There was. I used to work with him on gamesTM :)

I'm not sure if his reflexes are as good now, mind.

I seem to recall the chaps name was Martin Mathers. I used to have two guns and the Saturn version and tried it at home. Couldn't do it. Utter agony on the arms

Unfortunately I seem to remember his challenge ending in failure.

I'm pretty sure he was successful. It's why I remembered his name. One of the few gaming feats which impressed me, that and the chap who beat 100 people at VF. But from what I understand now, that was a little fixed

SEGA are celebrating the US release of the Sega Saturn today.

you remember, the one they announced on the day it happened, followed by Sony’s “$299” mic drop?

yeah... the release that killed the bloody thing.

Just seen a guy selling these on eBay. Say guy that does the Dreamcast ones mentioned in the DC thread.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sega-Saturn-PICO-PSU-Power-Supply-Fits-all-Models-VA0-VA15/303172447306?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Having a JPN Saturn, I’ve always wanted to ditch the step down and this seems like a good alternative. Will be cooler in the system too.

Nice day out at Play Expo Glasgow yesterday, I was surprised at just how many import titles were for sale there.

I ended up getting KoF ‘97, Darkstalkers 3, Baku Baku Animal and House of the Dead. All amazing games (IMO) with no language barrier and a substantial saving over the PAL versions. I also picked up an unboxed Virtua Stick for a tenner.

House of the Dead was terrible. I bought the jap version on release and was massively disappointed. It's textures are easily a candidate for worst on Saturn.
