Luigi's Mansion

Got this with my GC on release day and thought it was OK. I got about half way through it then gave up as Super Monkey Ball was just about to take over my life. 30+ games later and being skint after Xmas I gave it another whirl...

What a great game. I think I was expecting Super Luigi 64 when I first played it, but it shouldn't be compared to Mario 64 (or Sunshine) at all. The gameplay is more arcade paced with a dash of adventure. The graphics still hold up well and the sounds effects are superb. Those little in-house references by Nintendo are still present and correct.... For those who have missed it. GET IT.

This game is great. It has stood the test of time well, IMO. I think it had a lot of expectation resting on its, admittedly, narrow shoulders which wasn't really fair. I recommend this game to anyone. It's consantly inventive and the ghosts are still some of the loveliest eye candy around.

Luigi's Mansion is a very beautiful, fun and charming game. One of the most underrated games of this generation, and definitely one of the GameCube's finest. As a launch-title it was maybe a bit too lightweight, but as a game it was a very nice achievement. There's few games that topped those lovely transparant glowy ghost looks.

I thought it was pretty great. Had me playing from start to end in one go, which is quite unusual for me. I'm not sure if I would've been too pleased with it if I had paid £30-40 though, I borrowed it off my housemate.

If anyone can point me to an Mp3 of that Labratory music, i'd be most grateful. That tune is 'kicking'.

I loved it, when I got my NTSC cube shortly after launch I was still waiting for my games to arrive from DVDBO, but a friend lent me this and Super Monkey Ball. After hearing a lot of negative stuff about it, it was so nice that it wasn't either too easy or too short... just about right for me on both counts.

Remeber the music room where as you got the instuments to play the mario theme started forming ;)

it's so good to hear people talk about how they love such a wonderful game. i hope this thread stays clear of the person who just wants to mix it up by proclaiming how shit it was.

it's odd to see a purely positive thread.

the graphics are ace though aren't they. full of real nintendo style. i love just walking around catching ghosts. it's odd that it's a game which doesn't need a sequel, like Rez.

I wish there were more games that stood out on there own and didn't need sequels. lot's of really great films don't need sequels, so why do really great games.

And that moment in the music room is brilliant.

Yep, that warmed my cold heart up.

I think more games should be like this, at a lower price of course.

Here's to more nice, easily finishable, FUN games that have some personality.

Excellent game. Only really came in for flak because people wanted a Mario 64 beater for launch. It was really just a tech demo that became a very entertaining few hours of a game and a nice way to get used to the new controller (also piss easy to play despite Japanese text).

fab game... I loved it at launch and played it solid for about 2 weeks. Full of character, real humour and lovely touches that so many developers simply don't bother adding into their games.

I also thought the end boss was pretty tough.... but then, I suck at games.

Wonderful game. I never expected a Luigi 64 and I think I enjoyed the game all the more for it.

Loved the little touches like sucking up sheets, or moving the curtians. And like Davros the "Mario, Mario" calls brought a huge smile to my face.

Damn it, you lot have made me want to go back and play it agian.

It's funny. When I first played it I enjoyed it but didn't think it was that great. However, after playing the two most anticipated titles (for me) of this generation, Metroid Prime and TWW, I honestly think Luigi's beats them both.

It's well paced, decent in length, and fun to play through. Not something you can say for the other two...

The end boss was friggin' easy. Only SMSunshine's Bowser topped King Boo in 'easyness'. Check out Paper Mario's Bowser battle. Now that's one cool end boss!

But the end boss was Bowser not King Boo wasn't it? I also couldn't do him.

I thought the game was pretty poor to be honest.
