Late to this, anyone have issues with light crusader, walking in certain directions causes the whole screen to judder few hours of that would cause nausea!

Also, why has shinobi got the most confusing naming of any game in history!? I think I need a look up table to figure what version is what!

Yeah, it's a complete fucking mess.

Not at all. It's very simple as this simple diagram simply points out (the simplicity). Though I'd like to add it's made a mistake, since Dragon's Curse on the PC Engine is in fact simply called "Adventure Island", even though it's actually Dragon's Curse.

Finally went back to setting this up and got it in a place I'm happy with using with all my favourites!

Going to pick up a six button pad and thinking one of the Retrobit controllers - either the Megadrive or Saturn one. Does anyone have any experience of these and are they lasting you well in the long run? And any preference between the two as I'm still trying to decide which one!

Thanks,

Thanks,

I had the original Retrobit 8 button Mega Drive style USB controller and that worked great but sold it when I bought the 2.4ghz wireless one. The mrs always moans about wired controllers and as I have the MDMini in the front room it had to go. I had the japanese Saturn Grey one too and outside of the shoulder buttons feeling different, found that one fine too, but I sold it as I originally bought it for PC and as the wireless one worked on that too, it was surplus to requirements (I then bought the Astro City controller for PC use, but I dont know if that works on the MD mini or not. I waited so long to get decent sega style controllers i'm now tripping over them)

I really like the 2.4ghz one. Nice packaging, you get a USB dongle that works across a ton of formats (PC, Mega Drive Mini, Switch, PS3 of the top of my head) and one for the original MD port. There's a few negative reviews on Amazon that mention issues when using the original port dongle but I've never needed it so whatever. I had it xmas '19 and it's never given me any grief, only negative is it doesn't hold charge to long - battery life is plentiful but if you shelve it and go back a month later it's likely dead which is a bit of a pain in the ass if you just want a quick go on something. That said I've since reset it with a pin in the back and it seems fine now so maybe the auto off was originally bugged or something. YMMV.

What's nice is, they are completely interchangeable with original parts, so I stuck a genuine MK1603 D-Pad in mine. The difference is it cant be pressed down in the centre like the stock retrobit (which to be honest, I never found a problem) but I like the shade of Grey and texture over the original solid Black retrobit part.

The home button acts as a menu button on the mini so you don't need to hold start anymore which is great. If you use a retrobit wired Saturn controller the shoulder buttons act as menu hotkeys.

TLDR yeah you can't go wrong with them. I know people swear by the 8bitdo but I bought one recently and sometimes it drops down-right and B presses. It feels amazing but I'm pretty annoyed with it when i use it.

Cheers dude. Not too concerned on battery life if not in use - I definitely want a wireless one as that's the main issue I have with sitting back comfortably with the pads bundled with the mini - cords are long enough but I just can't get along with wired controllers anymore.

I'd disagree with that diagram a bit - for the main series, it's important to split the arcade titles of 1 & 2 and the enhanced home ports for Sega consoles, particularly as that's where the Monster World name originated.

Since nobody asked, here's my diagram, using the Japanese names of the home ports (which make gluing this mess together a bit easier):

I can't read "Wonder Boy IV: Monster World III" without doing the old 80s BBC football/pools results announcer's voice in my head.

My Megadrive 6 button Retrobit pad arrived today and gave it a good run through Streets of Rage. I've never had a 6 button MD pad before but I'm quite surprised at how loose and bouncy the D-Pad is. I did get used to it by the end of the session. I can't remember if Saturn pads are the same design (I think it is but it's been so long since I've played on it!)

The major upside though is realising just how much the original Megadrive pad was hurting my hands due to the hard plastic used on its D-Pad.

Megadrive Mini is almost complete - just need to pick up a replica fake cartridge now!

But it's Wonder Boy V: Monster World III surely ?

And Wonder Girl: Monster World IV. But I digress.

You're right, typo on my part - it is actually Wonder Boy V: Monster World III, which would indicate The Dragon's Trap is implicitly Wonder Boy IV, as well as being Monster World II. Although the Japanese Game Gear release seems to just be called Monster World II, with no Wonder Boy mention.

Monster World IV is just called Monster World IV however, not Wonder Girl. The remake seems to be called Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, though.

Which store? If you check their website, you can check store stock.

It was the Edinburgh store. He checked some of the stores nearby but said there wasn't any. I'll check myself too though, just in case.

Can anyone tell me what space is built into these? I fancy adding some more roms but not sure what I have to play with and I dont really want to attach a memory stick.

Loads. I went for 60 games and not because I ran out of space, but because I wanted to curate it slightly.
