Mega Drive Mini, and now... Mega Drive Mini 2!

If your M30 is bluetooth you can use a Mayflash Magic S Pro adapter, they are about £25 on amazon. Expensive but very versatile, you can even use it on a PS4.

If it is 2.4ghz you can't buy the adapter on its own unfortunately, you have to buy the 2.4ghz controller + USB dongle together which is about £30

Can anyone tell if this Mayflash NS Lite would work with a Mini 2 and a Bluetooth 8BitDo? It seems like it should but I’ve been staring at virtually identical products for a while now and can’t see what the more expensive one actually does different.

looks like it should. Says MD Mini is a compatible system, guess you just have to hope the 8bitdo BT controllers are covered in the “and more” section of compatible controllers. Worth a punt though.

When i had my Mayflash S-Pro, make sure you set the M30 to turn on in Mac mode (button combos on the back) that's what I had to do to get it to connect.

Reading the engrish this should work, it's amazon so you can just return it if no luck so i'd go ahead.

You could also just get this for an extra tenner

Reading your reply just now I was feeling guilty that you'd bothered trying to help, since I've logged in having just bought a Retro Bit Saturn pad, then saw your link below  As a weak defence I do use Mac mode on my M30 anyway so it saves it for emulation on there. What a faff to save some faff.

Those retro bit pads are sweet like.

Any news on hacking/adding or removing games on the MDM2 yet?

Theres at least 12 games on the JPN version that are useless unless you read Japanese so it’d be nice if I could replace them.

edit: you may ask “why didn’t you just get the UK ver?”.  Easy… cooler cardboard box innit.

On the subject of regions, are there any games other than Streets of Rage 3 where I’d benefit from playing the Japanese ROM?

Quite a few games had the difficulty ramped for the western release, presumably so people couldn’t beat the game during the duration of a Blockbuster rental.

Off the top of my head:

Contra Hard Corp

Dynamite Heady

Wonder Boy in Monster World (end boss is a ducking joke)

There are more, and even more again on the Mega CD (anything Working Designs touched, for example). Most of the worst offenders have patches available on Romhacking.net to undo the changes.

Contra is the famous one but I’m not sure I knew that about Dynamite Headdy. That’s long been on my list so good to know. Perversely I sort of prefer the western release of Hard Corps. For as stupidly OTT as it seems at first it feels more like Contra and it’s a bit less obnoxious than the way Streets of Rage 3 gives bosses multiple health bars they never had before etc.

That looks tremendous - good find!

Also my Retro Bit Saturn pad showed up today and if this is 90% as good as an original I completely understand why people go on about them. It feels glorious.

Yeah. It's an incredible pad, especially for fighting games. For 2D games it's pretty unmatched.
