I hear ya. My setup is up in the Earths molten core.. sorry, the loft. Which is covered in lovely black heat absorbing tiles. Even the several million pounds worth of Celotex up there barely manages to keep the carpet from combusting.

🤣

It's relatively okay here. 26°C today and it will drop in the coming days. Next week that will change, it seems. So may the coolest driver win come Thursday!

Watkins Glen lap on the server!! I think I have 2 or 3 tenths more there if I can be better in bus stop and the final sector. https://streamable.com/f8oc0r

I need to get up very early on Friday and have lots of work tomorrow so I will probably not be able to participate. We'll see.

Is the server up? I went for some TT just there and could not find it. I assumed it was to do with the update (or @davejm had tripped over the power cable)

What could I have changed that I cannot see the server on the browser?

Yeah needed the new update by the looks of it.  Sorted now :)

[rant warning]

Ok, looks like I will have to adjust my opinion on Indy and CotA. Indy's not too bad after all, better than I remember it from other games at least.

CotA on the other hand is a bloody mess. There's no flow anywhere. For the first sector they tried to copy Maggots/Becketts and/or Suzuka's esses but they removed the flow and lopped in a couple of crests to make some of its corners blind, and an illogical tightening section at the end of it, seemingly just for the hell of it. It feels like they took a bit of string, tied the ends together and randomly dropped it on the floor to determine the track's layout. The stadium section slows everything down again, with barely any opportunities to overtake (so the audience can watch the cars parade by I suppose). Even the stadium section at the Mexico circuit is much better thought out in comparison.

The last few corners are alright and I like the first hairpin, but the rest of the layout screams 'Hermann Tilke random track generator'. Shame, because some of his designs are pretty good (Sepang, Istanbul). Seems like he was out of ideas for this one.

[rant over]

Oh meant to say if anyone wants to add me on Steam I'm CrispyWonTon.

I think I definitely prefer the handling on this over PCars2 which I find to be rather floaty, though I still need to adjust sensitivity as the steering is still a little twitchy for my liking and the throttle and brakes feel a little binary, like I'm jumping between off, half, full too easily rather than being able to gradually apply them.

ACC is considered the most realistic (GT) sim out there currently. Its handling comes very close to the real thing but you have got to make sure you've set up your wheel correctly.

Kunos recommends setting the maximum rotation of your wheel to 900° (in the game's controls, and in the wheel itself, if possible). Not sure which wheel and pedals you have, but with Fanatec you can also use their calibration menu tool thingy to set the wheel rotation to 900°. That makes it feel spot on.

As for the pedals, make sure there's no dead zone in it because that will shorten the range in which throttle is applied and in turn makes it more sensitive. You want to use 100% of the pedal's travel. And this game really shines when you use a load cell brake pedal.

Do you fancy joining us for some races tonight? 😀

Yep, like @davejmsays, I'm on a pad @MeersYeah, I know, blasphemy.

I want to sink more time in then get the dlc. There's no way I'm up to speed yet for online racing either, but the intention is to join in soon.

Oooh right, well ignore what I said then haha! Apologies! 😅

I remember the chatter about it now. It's not blasphemy mate - one of the fastest ACC aliens uses a gamepad.

Gold_Saw does use stability control to smooth out throttle input. Car and setup effect a bit how easy or difficult it is to drive with a pad: some are more lively and snappier than others.

Ah I wonder if that's why he doesn't pop up in all the leagues?  I'm pretty sure some have stability control turned off in the server settings.

I'll be sure to leave it on for (for our practice server and events) if that helps @wev, for when you do join us.

I've used the guide that was linked to the other day to work on the steering, that just needs fine tuning so it's a little smoother/less responsive. But need to figure out the throttle and brake as its not quite right. I can do laps of Monza fine enough and have been able to catch the car when it starts to go so that's reassuring. Currently lapping between 1:59 and 2:01 as I'm not confident in committing just yet

That + possibly unwillingness to use real name(which he has sometimes, so I dunno) + hes banned from some of them. 😄

Sounds good. Dont worry at all about laptimes for now. You can use safe and aggressive preset setups, just fine tune tyre pressures so that when driving they stay between 27.4-27.9 PSI. Around 30 PSI for wets. You can use high TC and ABS setting values: they are there to help you. Aero page settings have greatest influence on how the car behaves. All you need to know for now is that more wing = more downforce and understeer. Lower rear ride height = better stability and more understeer, higher rear height = less understeer.

Thanks, yeah I know setups, played other racing games lots and lots before and would play with set ups to suit my driving style (I used to like taking the Hennessey Venom up Fuji Kaido on Forza 4 and taming that, or getting more out of the 70s GTR on the same climb, also setting up touring cars for Forza 3 and was part of the GTSport community on here for a while until my OHs health was so bad. And while I know this games a step up from those, the principals are the same 🙂

Turned a couple laps at watkins glen yesterday to get reacquainted with the chevy, haven't peeked at the other tracks in this car so I'm coming in very rough with no practice. Lots of T1 sends tonight :D but I'm really looking forward to the short races and everyone in the same car and new tracks.

Looking forward to hitting the track(s) tonight with you! I really need that, the last two weeks have been crazy at work.

Good to see someone who thinks the same about COTA, @Meers. I simply do not get the point of any of the corner sequences there, it's just not a fun track to me - kind of like Snetterton.

The only practice I got was about 15 laps or so at COTA on Monday, IIRC, so I'll try not to accidentally use my GT3 braking points and throw a strike the first chance I get, lol

No practice, PC not been on since Sunday. Will not get home early as usual for a Thursday. Last time I saw a GT4 was on Eurosport.

I'm ready, see you tonight.

Not regged yet either. This will be done as soon as i get in.

Have fun.

Was playing career mode earlier, tried the steering assist in the Jaguar you get offered after you've done the Young Driver thing. Im not quite sure I like it, it felt like sometimes it was taking control away from me (it was applying opposite lock at one point). I think I'll stick to having that off, kind of feels like a more modern version of the first two TOCA games, probably helped by how violent driving these cars feels.

I do need to also sort my graphical settings, I get the odd bit of frame jumping, usually at the start of a lap or when going into an area with mixed lighting. But it also froze for a few seconds when entering the pits at Zolder.

Do any of you stream to Twitch whilst playing? I'd happily have that on whilst doing the food shop later

Neat :D

Yeah, I'm planning on streaming tonight's event. Beware of ze German! Don't be shy about posting to the chat in English though, I'll answer in either language :)
