And to make things worse, I thought Valver might still be along side me as we turned in, so was even more cautious than usual.

I should've shown some minerals and just held that left hand spot and gone for the apex!  I wonder what would've happened?

A different massive crash, probably

I'm not sure if I should have raced either, with real life things going on and the resulting lack of sleep I was way off the pace compared to my practice sessions and was pretty erratic at times.

Had some good battles with @EuroVapeSim2 (I'm surprised I managed it considering my lack of car control throughout the evening) but I took @SneakyNinja out due to crappy driving so apologies for that mate!

Seems that the showcase was a bit vague as there were no new specific announcements other than snippets of information teased out in an interview type format.

  • New contract being negotiated with SRO
  • BMW M4
  • 5-6 other cars of a different type.  GT2 or TCR I guess
  • DLSS support coming

Rather disappointing!

In addition to the good stuff @davejm points out above (coming Q1 2022 apparently), their "big news" was the free upgrades to console next gen versions, coming 24 Feb 2022

AC2 - no news

AC Mobile out next Tuesday for iphone/iPad

The decision has been made not to add raytracing...  just DLSS.  Shame.  I think lighting, reflections and shadows would benefit from a big dollop of RTX On.

edit:  Oh and the DLC with the BMW M4 GT3 will be free...

Speculation that the cars in that pack will be:

BMW M4 GT3

Audi GT3 '22 evo

Honda GT3 '22 evo

Supra GT4
Ford Mustang GT4
BMW M4 GT4 evo

Yeah, I'm not fussed about RTX (for the reason he mentions in the video) but DLSS could be a game-changer.  That said, their up-scaling tech in the game is VERY good anyway and in VR I set a render resolution of 70% then use their temporal upscaler.  So the game does have a DLSS sort of feature already (which works well in VR) but DLSS would obviously be better.

Can you post your settings Dave?  I'd like to give this a try and I'm not sure I've got this setup correctly at the moment.

I've decided step up my efforts and race in a second ACC Championship.

On simracing.gp there's a group called "Dads Go SimRacing"   They have a championship starting tonight, racing every Friday evening for 6 weeks.

https://beta.simracing.gp/communities/o0xxkv0TH8pJ_ntWrYuWn#events

Anyone else fancy joining me?

I've signed up to the sgp community and Discord.  I'm caught in two minds about racing due to the late race start time coupled with tiredness, but I'll catch you later if I decide to do it.

Are you joining their discord chat?  If you use the 'pick your roles' channel it opens up extra channels related to specific games.

I dont see your name in the entry list @davejm...

I've joined their "quiet race chat" one.  I picked a role but it never opened up the other channels.  Weird

(currently grabbing dinner, so cant chat in there yet)

I didn't register for the league yet, will do so if just before the server goes live if I'm definitely doing it.  I might just have a quick practice and see how I feel first.

Last nights DGSR race was fun.  I hated my car choice of the Honda though.  It was just so uncompetitive.  My lap times at the Nürburgring weren't anywhere near what Ive done in other cars.  Kerbs were really unsettling it too.  I'm stuck with it now though.  Arse.  Qualified 17th out of 23...  In the race I avoided most of the first few lap dramas and made it up to 12th, before making an error of my own at the last chicane and being pushed out wide for the final hairpin - where @davejm repassed me me along with a couple of others.

I think I also made a mistake in choosing to pit and swap tyres - as I lost more positions - and ended up finishing a rather underwhelming 16th.  I think some folks didn't pit for fuel at all - did you Dave?  I saw you earned a drive through - but I still didn't come close to catching you up again...

Quite a lot of Discord chat and banter during the race which I quite liked TBH.  The driving was clean and fair too - and some of those guys were really fast.  Will try and make next weeks race for sure.

I'm going to do a quick last minute change of car for the rllmuk championship!    I'm binning the Honda!!

Right, so here are my quest 2 settings.  Not necessarily relevant to you, but may as well post them as I think @Valver is getting a Quest 2 soon?  Although not sure for use in ACC.  But they might be useful for other folk.

Quest 2 Oculus Settings

I'm settling for 72fps here with the default render resolution.  A higher framerate is always nice but it's hard to get ACC to look crisp in VR as it is, so I think having a smooth 72fps but with the ability to push the graphic settings up is definitely preferable.

Quest 2 Oculus Tray Tool Settings (Link cable)

I won't go into all of these settings, but these are what I've settled on...

In-Game Settings

  • The trick to allowing the in-game upscaling to kick in (DLSS like feature called TAAU) is to set the Resolution Scale to 70% (or even lower), setting the VR Pixel Density to something much higher (I use 140%) and turning on 'Temporal Upscaling' (in the Advanced menu).
  • Temporal Anti-aliasing looks better than KTAA for me.  Less jaggies.
  • I don't use the ing-game sharpening, as I use Reshade for that (more on that below).  If you don't want to faff around with reshade (it can be fiddly) you can just turn on the 'Advanced Sharpening Filter' and increase the sharpening to 150%-200% for quite good results.  But the reshade does look better, so I use that.

Reshade

Grab the files from here:-

https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/releases/tag/v0.9.3-pre

Instructions:-

https://vrtoolkit.retrolux.de/install.html

Basically you just copy the files to the ACC binaries folder:-

AC2\Binaries\Win64

... then rename the ReShade64.dll file to dxgi.dll

You can then turn on the sharpening with CTRL+END

Important:  For Oculus users you have to switch to 'OpenXR Runtime' and also start the game in Steam VR mode (not Oculus)...

I didn't pit at all.  Just loaded up the fuel tank and went the whole way.  Was annoyed about my drive through; I don't know why but I've lost the HUD indicator showing the number of track cut warnings in VR.  So I just didn't know that I had any :(  But I also don't remember hearing Crew Chief mention it.

But it was a fun event.  The banter in Discord was good.  The late start time was good in some respects, but it was very late by the time we finished so I'll have to think whether I can stomach that.  Also, they're only awarding league points for the top 10 finishers and I'm not sure I'm fast enough to finish in the top 10 there.  So it would have been nice to see a better spread of points so that us lowly racers have some points to fight for!  But that's not the end of the world.

Oh, that’s weird, I’m sure I set a faster time than that -1:45.1 I think - I spent ages trying to get into the 1:44s! I stand to be corrected though - maybe I spent ages trying to get into the 1:45s. Yarrick was also in at one point and  he set a time too.

That's strange, nothing showing on the server results...

Thanks chaps! Just a mini-honeymoon for now. At the end of the party we were taken to an unknown destination as a surprise - to a honeymoon suite at a luxurious hotel. Came back yesterday to open all the gifts and clean the place up. Back in the office today.

The proper honeymoon will have to wait, probably next year. Need to save up again, hahaha!

The COVID measurements have been mostly lifted here. A large part of the country has been vaccinated and it looks like it's having a good effect. Didn't have a huge party but most of it was held outside so it should be alright I hope.

May I post a pic of us or is that frowned upon these days because of privacy stuff etc?
