Sorry chaps, couldn't chat yesterday afternoon. The kids were taking their afternoon nap (the loft door was open* and they sleep very light in the afternoons).

* Mrs Meers was walking in and out, doing the laundry** 😅

** Laundry is off-limits for me after a coloured-shirt-in-white-clothes mishap I had a while ago. 😅

Couldn't focus anyway due to the above so I didn't bettter my PB. Went to the fun fair with the kids when they were awake again which was lovely (their first time, should've seen those eyes!).

Hey guys! Sorry for being MIA for a bit, but the internet suuuuuucked at our vacation spot :D
In case you got nothing better to do, I'll stream today's 24 hour race at twitch.tv/yhaustein38

Green flag in an hour :)

how did you get on? I watched a little bit, saw you lap a couple of back markers while being roughly midfield yourself.

Only got into the sim for a short bit last week, gotta get some practice done this week and hopefully set a better qualifying time, the times you guys have set so far are really impressive. I found it quite tough with the high temps, I was sliding around and the last chicane is always a nightmare.

It's my achilles' heel on this track. Those sausages seem as big as adult pigs and I am scared of them. I look at those vids @Erik and @davejm posted and think "how?!". I need more practice time, hopefully tonight.

Maybe the lads can give us some pointers? Higher, softer suspension at the corst of cornering snappiness (if that's a word)? I think a monster truck will suit that chicane better, imo.

Use a bit of throttle and try to have the wheel more or less centered when touching them.

I dont know if I will be able to race yet. I managed to catch tendinosis/tennis elbow on an ankle, foot and knee, and it hasnt healed enough during the past week. I have no clue what I did to get it.

@Meers what happens when you hit them that is different? I'm going to try and get on tonight but it's usually pretty late before I can.

Generally speaking when trying to ride the sausage I look to be coasting with as little steering input as possible for the actual moment of truth and then get back on it all as soon as the car's on all fours once again. Madam. (edit, sounds like I should try having a wee bit of throttle on too)

Yes it always seems to bounce my car around heavily and I end up spinning into the grass on the left after the second apex, I've tried to keep some throttle input maybe it's my steering angle throwing the car around.

Ouch I hope it's not too serious, multiple spots is a right pain in the ass as well.

I'll give a straighter line a go, trying to cut the first pig a bit more.

Man that sucks. Are you sure it isn't caused by heel spur? I used to have that (caused by an incorrect posture when speed skating) and I felt it all the way up to my knee.

 "madam"?

Thing is, I don't know how to hit them. And maybe I'm too careful hitting them full on as I'm 'afraid' that will make the car jump and making me lose control. I think the risk is too high to justify the reward of cutting them (how far can you cut them anyway?). So I tend to steer through the chicane cleanly without hitting the pigs, leaving a lot of time there. Men from the boys and all that...

I fuckin' 'ate pigs.

No I dont think its a spur. Maybe being outdoors and moving, walking, hiking a lot with a new pair of shoes and boots past couple of weeks combined to something else.

Regardless of what I do with the race itself I do intent to improve my time a little. 🙃

Sorry, it's all this talk of getting on all fours to eat sausage. I don't know what comes over me. Ahem.

I reckon the point of practice is to find the limit of these things, pretty sure you need a couple of wheels on the road to the left of the first kerb and then if you're going in a straight line it'll ride 'em out fine. Sometimes (eg Zolder) you'll find that you need a safer line for the race but can risk something more dangerous for qualifying.

Maybe @mrben09 can line up Richmond sausages as one of this years Cup Sponsors?

isn't their slogan "never knowingly including decent meat"? 🤮

edit: nvm  I think milko edited his post to make mine irrelevant - so deleted a chunk

I never edited anything @Valver! Now I'm wondering what I missed.

🥰 nothing sinister, I promise!

When I first read your previous post I thought you meant that as this was just practice, push as hard as you like to find the track limits and then dial it back a notch for qualifying on Thursday- and I commented to say that this session is also acting as qualifying for our final race.  But then I read it again and it didn't read that way (I assumed you'd edited it to make it read more clearly) so I deleted my waffle to try and not sound patronising.

Chalk it up to my old age and lack of reading comprehension :blah:

We got 13th in the end, which is really good all things considered. Had a few problems here and there, including a disconnect during a driver change, that dropped us down the order a few times, but the pace was great. A top 10 spot could have been in the cards had that not happened.

Annoyingly, my PC decided to randomly reboot itself after a few minutes now, so I could not do the final stint as we had planned. Still have to fix that, not sure what it is but can rule out power supply - it doesn't do it when it's in safe mode, so I might have to reinstall Windows and see if it helps.

I think I found my 'comfortable' line through the Variante Alta chicane. Still leaving a bit of time there, though...but it's better than increasing the risk of a wipeout.

You could go a bit higher still for front rideheight. Lets say 56 front. Try the endurance Misano dry setup, but go 2 mm higher both front and rear and lower wing 1 or 2 clicks, that will probably work pretty well for Imola and should be softer and safer over kerbs. Once you get more confident in the chicanes and arent afraid to touch kerbs you will find a lot more speed and consistency.

Sorry to hear about that Erik. Did you share a photo of your setup once, I seem to remember you sit at a desk on a regular chair? Whenever I raced on a desk I used to get pain on my feet as it required my ankle to always be tensioned awkwardly to raise the feet at a weird angle just above the pedals (with the desk I had, the pedals had to be closeish to the chair, so wasn't ideal). Just a thought! Speedy recovery!

If I can figure out what I did to get a 0.68s faster lap (but invalid) last night, I’ll shoot up the grid by… no places! Haha a distinct step in the timings this week, so far. At least I know which sectors I need to concentrate on.

I will give it a try, Erik. Thanks for all the help so far. 😁

I may also lower the FFB gain a bit again (currently at 100%) because I think I've got a bit of FFB clipping going on. Fanatec recommends 70% but that feels really lifeless when I tried it Sunday, so I put it back on 100%. Force is really high but it lacks a bit of detail. I think 90% may be better. Small steps. May help with the chicanes as well, as the wheel really kicks going over those sausages.

Good call. A good seating position is important as you don't want to over-stretch or sit too cramped behind the wheel.

Yeah it's quite the gap to the front running group. I'm happy I got into the 1.43s but I'm really not sure where the time is to make the next step up.

Its not from simracing this time. 😄 Driving felt good yesterday so its not that range of motion. I blame my shoes and weather. At least its now much better than week ago and I just tested that I can run on even ground without it hurting. Downhill and downstairs it hurts in ankle, knee and shin when extending right foot below left.
