That dammed final chicane, it caught me out a few times during the race, it was really unfortunate it happened to you so early in the race. I felt like we had similar pace and a good battle on our hands.

It took me about a minute to get the car back pointed in the right direction again too! I couldn't spin 180 degrees, it kept going the full 360, it was comedic. I was pretty fast before that point, felt like I had a podium place in me. And then I lost it around there again about two or three more times later on including one where the gentlest bump on the front gave me severe damage for a 90 second pitstop.

Now you know why I had so much trouble with it in the run-up to race day. I was even afraid it would screw me over several times in the race.

And what do you know? Not a single issue with it in the race.

@Meers looks like you need your racing pants tomorrow

Yeah, just saw that! That's awesome of Andrew.

Luckily, I still have my racing pants handy after last week's 80/90s character dress-up theme party (not Halloween)!

Guys, does anyone know what the effect is when you connect the pedal's spring 'strut' to one of the other holes (thus changing the angle between pedal and spring)?

My guess would be something to do with affecting the leverage - I'd ask a structural engineer ;)

I would, but this is mechanical engineering! I only work with static structures. 🤷‍♂️ 😆

I'm looking at making the braking less of a strain on my knee. In other words- less pressure for the same amount of braking force.

So I think that you're right in thinking if it's more toward 90°, there's less leverage needed and a more 1:1 pressure/braking force effect? Which means that it will be really firm to press?

So moving the spring further away from the pedal will probably make it less toight to press, as @winky suggests?

Excellent insights as ever Erik, thank you.

Thanks. I tried to find old replays or my recorded videos and these two migh help to demonstrate a bit. I drive Bentley in Monza in them both.

First one is from June 2020. I'm chasing a Nissan, but I'm a bit sloppy and indecisive behind it. Laptimes in the 1:50s. I clearly dont have the track quite nailed down and I'm not attacking corners or using all of the track. In many corners I cant put the power down until car length or two after the apex, and becuase of the Nissan I cant see my braking markers.

The second one is from our Monza endurance race last April. We had a fast and safe setup and I had learned the track, now being able to use all of it even when running close to a car ahead and taking alternative lines. Confident with both the car and the track. At this point I had been driving 60 laps on the same set of tyres, averaging in the 1:48s, and had just caught the race leader(white Lamborghini) and backmarkers(McLaren and Merc)ahead.

Reflecting on those videos, the two races where I felt I had the most stable setup are the ones I did well in, there's definitely wisdom to it! In Hungary I could just drive forever without feeling at all at risk of a mistake. In Paul Ricard I felt I was giving up some top speed on that big straight but also it was the only way I could survive all the corners so I ran with extra downforce.

Still, in Imola this time I could've had a car set up for weeks by experts analysing my driving, I still went to shit mentally on the night after a couple of laps or so. And the whole steering wheel nearly falling off thing. Anyway. It is in the past.

Good luck in Misano!

I think so, the brake is a rack and pinion so more travel means more rotations of the pinion that get you to 100% braking. As the spring is under less compression it should be easier to press. However the springs could be that they need pretty much the same force regardless of compression/extension. I am really just guessing here.

There may be more luck in calibrating the brake as you can tune that less force results in 100% brake.

P2 to P18 is 16 gained, am I right?

Well depends how you look at it. 😅

We went from P20 to P16 in the end. The night with rain conditions were...difficult (understatement). I barely made any mistakes - got tapped from behind once and managed to juuuuuust save it (the guy gave me the position back though), and I lost it in the first-to-second corner due to imbalance in the steering and shifting down too early. No positions lost, fortunately.

Don't know about you, but I found the conditions intense. I had a massive headache afterwards, I think from focussing 110% on the track and car handling in those dark and wet conditions (and drinking too little that afternoon as well, I suppose). It was quite something else pressure-wise.

I didnt get to drive in the wet, but it wasnt too bad in the practice. Judging by Thursday practice I was much faster in the wet than I was in the dry, relative to other teams and Nicolas. My immense dislike of the McLaren and its handling, FFB and inability to touch curbs and not slide continues.

No wet for you guys? Our race was 100% rain, and not a little bit either. Rain + darkness + loads of cars + pressure not to fuck it up = sensory overload. 😅

Speaking of wet races - we didn't have any last season, I don't think. How about for our upcoming GT4 mini season we have some that we know are going to be wet?

Be another thing to shake things up a bit, and I for one reeeeeallly need the practice!

Let me 1-up that one - wet night race. I'm coming prepared! 😈

It rained for final 2 h or so, but at that point I was out of the 2 h 40 min driving time because I double stinted.

Wow, lucky. I don't know how many times you would have exclaimed "Vittu / Saatana / Perkele" if it was a full wet race in that 720S. 😅

Changed the angle to be lower this weekend (it was on the penultimate hole by default - never changed it before) and it made it easier to press with the same stopping power as a result. I've not tried the 90° angle but I guess that would feel as if you would try to push concrete out of the way.

Feels a bit squishy/spongey now but to be fair I really like it compared to the previous setting which killed my knee after a while. I did 2 stints (slightly over 1 hour) and didn't have any knee discomfort whatsoever.
