I just sent @davejm a request for his ACC VR Quest 2 setting by DM.  I too got a Quest 2 for Xmas.  Didn't think to check here first.  Doh!

Ive got a 3080.  And a nice long USB 3 cable (non official) that works fine.

I'm also interested in the resolution multiplier, Hz and encode rate settings in the Oculus desktop program.

For some reason, I thought that you used VR anyway Valver. Have you tried ACC using the Quest 2 yet?

I do - I have an old Rift.  It works quite differently to the Quest 2 from a PCVR point of view though, and the resolution is much lower, so its much less hardware intensive.

I hooked the Quest 2 up and turned in a  few laps - worked well enough, but I could see some compression artefacts on far away items.  But the general clarity on near objects is massively improved!  I'm sure with some tweaking, I can get it even better

Quest 2 Configuration Guide

Oculus App

Here are my settings for the Oculus software.  I run at 72fps at the default render resolution.  I tried aiming for 90fps, but you have to sacrifice too much image quality for those extra frames and I find that 72ps feels fine anyway...

Oculus Debug Tool

You can find this tool here:-

C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics

(though your install location may vary)

Things I change here:-

  • FOV-Tangent Multiplier
I set these values to 0.8 for the horizontal and vertical field of view.  This means you do get a slightly narrower field of view being rendered; but it saves precious frames (20% extra headroom, I guess).  You might not like this, so use at your discretion; but I don't mind having the edges slightly chopped off.
NOTE:  These values reset to zero when the Oculus service restarts
  • Distortion Curvature: Low
  • Encode Resolution Width: 3648
  • Encode Bitrate: 500
  • Link Sharpening: Enabled
  • Visible HUD:  I set this to Performance whilst I'm tweaking so I can see how much headroom I have

In-Game Settings

You might want to play around with the DLSS sharpening to taste.

IMPORTANT:  In order to take screenshots I had to revert to pancake mode, so the VR options (shown below) are disabled in this screenshot.

Here are my actual settings:

  • VR PIXEL DENSITY:  150%
  • VIRTAUL TO REAL SCALE:  100%

With the frames saved by using the FOV multiplier in the OculusTrayTool, I might be able to push the pixel density higher.  But the key is to find a value that can cater for the race situation.  This is probably the value that you should play around with if you have a different GPU.

Image customisation options are to taste.  Not sure why I settled on the below values...

Great, thanks Dave. Unfortunately I can't even get the Quest to connect to my PC in any sort of meaningful way. I've installed the Oculus desktop app and then Steam VR. I can't work out what to do next though! Steam VR asks me to plug the headset in even though it already is. Unplugging and plugging in again makes no difference.

Does the oculus desktop app see the headset? In the devices page. You don't need SteamVR for ACC but it ought to work as well. If oculus desktop sees it, then you should find yourself in the 'house' inside your headset by choosing to enable the Link inside your Quest home menu.  - now, in the oculus Rift home there's a fireplace and some sort of balcony view, right? You get your Oculus menu up and select 'view desktop' towards the right side somewhere. Now you can see your Windows desktop you can just load up Steam and ACC; choose Oculus VR on the prompt.

At least, that's how I do it on Quest 1. I can't remember if I had to buy the Virtual Desktop quest app to get that method working though(?)

Hey guys!  Hope you all had a good Christmas.  I'm pleased to announce the schedule for season 8.   To save a lot of faffing and decision making; and to make it easier for folk wanting to take part in the LowFuelMotorsport races I've aligned the track choice with their rookie series.  Here it is:-

image.png.0143690b72a87cf431e57739259763ab.png

This season we'll be back in the GT3s (with your choice of car for the season) and will move between the 1 hour endurance races and 2x 25 minute sprints; with a 90 minute Blue Riband event to round off the season.  I'll get the practice server configured at some stage; but we have a little while before we start things off anyway.

Let's try to arrange an Assetto Corsa race for Thursday 6th if possible.

Looks like a great variety of tracks and the real weather sounds very cool indeed, even though some of the weather might make me a torpedo 😅

What is a Blue Riband race? Is it just that it’s a 90 min race or are there some extra rules or settings unknowledgeable amateurs like me need to be aware of? :)

90 minute race with 2 mandatory pitstops and extra points on offer 😃 Qualifying is based on the best time set on the server in the week prior, rather than a qualifying session on the night.

Thanks for the tips @milko and @davejm. I can definitely get to the balcony room but I couldn’t work out what to do next. I’ll try again tomorrow - I wanted to throw it out f the window earlier! So can I use the Oculus all for any VR Game and uninstall Steam VR?

Also, just to check Dave, those configuration settings reset each time the app is closed and don’t affect the stand alone Quest?

some games, such as Alyx, need SteamVR, keep it around. You can load that directly from within the Oculus house. VR is still annoyingly twiddly but once you’re up and running it gets easier!

There isn't really anything getting in the way, other than when you turn the headset on you bring up the options screen and turn on 'Link'.  Once you're connected you then just run ACC from Steam and select the Oculus mode when launching.  You don't need to be wandering around the virtual house or anything.

How far have you got?  Does the Oculus app show the Quest 2 as connected and can you see the option screen that I posted a screenshot of? (where you choose framerate and resolution)

If you're then connected, can you go into the headset and choose to start 'Link'? (it's on the options page when you're actually in the headset itself).

Just to clarify, when you're using the headset in standalone mode you're in one virtual world where you can load the standalone native Oculus apps (which are installed and run directly from the headset).

When you're connected to 'Link' you then launch into another settings page which looks like a semi circular dashboard of options.  You can then launch Oculus PC games (which are installed via the Oculus PC app) or launch PC VR games directly.

And then Steam VR is another matter, with its own virtual world too.  But don't worry about that for now, as you'll want to launch ACC in Oculus mode.

But all of this might be pissing in the wind if the Quest 2 isn't being recognised by the PC and showing as connected in the Oculus PC app.  That should be the first step (including a USB connection test).

Cheers Dave. Yeah, I got to the Link virtual space when connected to the PC, just didn’t know what I was doing from there. I’ll have another go this evening :)

Ah, in that case nothing else required apart from launching ACC.  You'll need to do it from Steam so that you see the 3 launch options and choose Oculus VR mode...

Cool. I tried that and it booted on the laptop screen but I didn’t get anything from the headset! I saw what I presume was a virtual desktop in front of me but it was blank.

AH, something not right then.   Your laptop should show the a garage (with your avatar standing around) and the headset should show the game menu screen.

This won't be why, but does remind me, bind 'recenter HMD' to a steering wheel button in ACC before you load it in VR. It never loads in the right place at the start and you'll need to do it now and again while playing.

Bought this on the PS Store PS4 version for just under £12 the other day - ready for the PS5 update in Feb. I like what is here so far though, very absorbing (once I'd found the TC settings and turned them right down!).

£12 with the PS5 update seems like a good deal really - just as well as a lot of the game is locked behind another £45+ of DLC 🙄

I have! For future reference for laptop owners setting up Oculus as PCVR - the problem with not seeing the virtual desktop was that the hybrid graphics setting was on. Disabling the on board graphics sorted the issue out.

I can’t believe how immersive it is through VR, amazing! I’ve still got some tweaks to make and I’m not sure I’ll be able to race with VR - the framerate got quite choppy in an AI race. I’ll see what further messing around brings :)

The main issue I can see is that the laptop screen is rendering what I can see through VR, which is presumably a waste of resources. Is there any way to disable the screen? Windows doesn’t seem to detect the headset as a second display and closing the laptop lid breaks the connection between the laptop and headset.

3gb is great, and better than what mine tests as on my PC.  The Quest 2 will use less than that available bandwidth, so you're sorted on that front.

If you follow my recommended base settings (which I've linked to in the OP now) the biggest gain you'll get is adjusting the VR pixel density setting.  That's basically your final render resolution after all the other settings and scaling has been applied (such as DLSS).

Use the 'Performance' overlay in the OculusDebugTool to check your available headroom (do it during a single player race).

You can disable the monitor output with a tweak to the ACC config file but it’s a waste of time, there’s no overhead. It’s even only getting one eye’s worth of output I think.

For the choppiness, after resolution/DLSS settings, you can mess with how many opponent cars are displayed and that might help a little, along with their LOD.
