I think I sorted some of the VR issues through blind belligerence (that's what 30 years of IT does to you, manuals are for losers).

 

Anyway I managed 2 races without a crash at VR epic settings. Needed to test with a fuller grid before I ruin someone's Thursday. WOW, why have I had this hat for over a year and only just got round to this. Even picked up a podium, I'm sure you can imagine the competition. 

 

 

 

Got a quite detailed guide to run through tonight to fine tune the VR (manuals in this case are for winners)  , and then onto some laps at Misano.

I've not had the time since I got back to play ACC and I don't know the track. I'll have a go on the practice server tonight, if I can get a car around at all in a reasonable time I'll join on Thurs, otherwise I'll miss this one.

Most of us are rusty a.f. after the holiday season (I hope haha) so you'll be fine. I couldn't for the life of me get a couple of valid laps in last night myself, so I expect to get a few track limit warnings come Thursday. 😓

 

I've no time this week for much more practice than this. I'm coming in as per our motto.

Dumb question from a non-PC gamer whose never used discord...

I presume I want to install discord on my PC so the audio will mix with the game audio.

Is it blatantly obvious how to join chat on Thur?

 

Did someone suggest there's a possibility of rain?   I haven't bothered to learn how to make a pit stop yet, or ever driven in the rain  😅

Yeah it's pretty straightforward. In the left column is a list of channels you've been invited for. Then in the next column it's the various 'threads' in that channel. You just select the 'acc voice chat' one and you're in. Click it once more to see who's in it, as in there you can right-click everyone individually to change their volume.

 

It indeed mixes with the game volume.

 

Also, download Crew Chief. It's essential for online racing (or enable the in-game spotter if you can't be arsed).

 

What's your Discord tag? I'll try to add you.

Don't worry, you'll learn on the fly hahaha! 😈

 

Make sure you're selecting the right tyres from the pit menu, as well as your refill of fuel. There's more to it but just focus on this first. We'll guide you along the way.

Rain is all but impossible for this week's race. Also no pitstops needed unless you get damage or miscalculate fuel, it's a couple of sprints. You'd probably best have a quick look at the race start procedure though.

The other thing aside from what Meers tells you is that you'll probably want to assign a button for push-to-talk in discord settings. Unless you want it to pick up your every sound, then you can just leave it open.

Indeed, here is the weather config for the event...

 

 

Weather randomness of 4 does allow for a slim possibility of rain, but with the low base cloud level it's very slim.  I think you need a cloud level of 0.6 to give a decent chance of rain.  I think there's a weather odds checker online somewhere... let me see if I can find it...

No practise in for me today. Have been ill with the mother of all chest infections for the last four weeks and tried to go back to work yesterday and today. Very premature, it turns out as I almost fainted when I came home and is now sitting with a wheeezzzzing chest and hilarious cough in the sofa unable to sleep, drive or whatever. Hopefully it gets better until Friday. Think I’m at my max pace at Misano now and feel pretty confident on how to take the corners….in THEORY 😅

 

On a positive note: this might be the last or at least penultimate race on my current unreliable setup with my wheel attached to my studio desk and having to shove stoppers behind the wheels on my gaming chair (which always come loose during a race, no exeptions)….because there’s a rig on its way to me as we speak! Took the plunge at last so looking forward to a more permanently set up system so I can change between music and racing whenever I want instead of rigging the wheel up and down every time. Should at least improve the experience 😍

I just hit 99 fecking practice laps on the server and I'm still not loving it to be honest, though I've found a bit more time to get towards respectability. Whenever I push it seems to end in tears, an invalid lap or both. Overthinking and overdriving a lot, I reckon.

That’s a massive practice effort my man! I have the same problems as you but for some reason I do enjoy the track. Even when it makes me punch my wheel and just rage incoherently. Not sure why 🤣

 

But I definitely find myself violating track limits more often than not here, especially when I try to improve. 
 

Find it very difficult to race with other cars here. East to get stressed about faster cars approaching from behind and then go beach hunting.

I'm sure I've enjoyed this track more than this before. Maybe I don't love the Porsche as much as I think I do. Whatever it is, I normally get a good bit more reward in the form of time gained against practice laps than I've managed this week! It's earned me a whopping 0.3s seconds this week

Interesting night! Was rushed to the ER 3.30 am today due to huge breathing problems and was hospitalised. Some infection in the lungs causing my otherwise dormant asthma to grow huge and angry. I’m told I might get out tomorrow if the treatments and tests today works out. Hopefully I’ll be able to join tomorrow but if not, you know why. 🤔

Thanks mate! Getting some good treatment here so getting better but I’m totally shattered, as this was a bit of a dramatic and exhausting experience. But hooked up to oxygen and getting regular medication so breathing is already better. Turns out there are advantages to be able to breathe. Who knew!

Haven't posted mine since I moved upstairs!

 

The monitor swings from work mode to race mode nice and easy (though I'm in VR of course). And I have a towel on the seat because the goddamn cat codriver spends more time on the seat than I do! For some reason she likes to claw it, and also deposits an alarming amount of debris that she picks up on her fur.

 

Next up is to sort out a better way to use a keyboard in there, I'm sick of balancing it on my lap.
