Oh man! Get well soon Nick!

Just had my booster jab, hopefully I can jump on tonight for a session if the shoulder doesn't ache too much (or worse - if it makes me feel ill). So far, so good.

Ah, right. Makes sense - I’ve had a concussion!

Shit I hope you feel better soon!

I've not had the chance to get on the practice server yet this week as I've been sick as well, only a stomach bug and not the rona thankfully.

I think I'm going to stick with the Ferrari evo even though it tried to kill me most races I've driven it, the off throttle pops sounds so glorious though. I want to try learn a bit about setting up a car during this league and think sticking with the Ferrari as I already did our last GT3 league in it is a good starting point.

Well I didn't feel ill from the jab thankfully, but my arm felt battered last night so I didn't fancy doing any sim racing.

Got an endurance race tomorrow, hopefully it has worn off by then.

How did the Endurance race go @Meers?

Great, considering that we got shunted a couple of times (before my stint).

There was one driver at the beginning of the race who was a massive nuisance to everyone, and didn't appear to know what they were doing. They hit us directly in the early stages of the race, and later on they slammed the brakes too late, hitting a car behind us in the rear, who then hit us.

At a later stage we lost control of the car coming out of Ascari and someone 2 places behind us, who claimed they couldn't react in time even though the car in front of them could, t-boned us and caused a lot of damage and a lot of time and positions as a result.

3rd stint was my turn, and we were in 17th place. I had quite a bit of traffic and in the mean time battling for position, which was awesome and clean. I had no real incidents, apart from losing control due to tramlining the kerb in the first lesmo. That thing is a right bastard, lost 3 seconds and got 5 seconds of damage. Still managed to hold on to 17th place so it was damage control.

That was my only stint as it was a 6h race, so the other guys finished the race withoutany major issues. They managed to make up for lost positions in stint 4, 5 and 6 and we finished in 12th position. I think there were about 25-30 cars at the beginning, but at the end there were just about 20 left.

It was an amazing experience once again. It's a challenge, but if you're being considerate and be smart with your driving, it's perfectly doable.

Next season will have live stewarding, commentary and streaming which will hopefully prevent idiots from causing too much damage, like that first guy.

I'm really sorry guys, I'll be missing from the first two rounds of the season as I've got to rehearse both nights.  I think it's going to be pretty tricky to fit two rehearsals and a night of sim racing into each week this year, so I might be missing more races than I attend.

Sorry to hear that mate, you'll be missed.  But it's exciting times for your music at the moment :)

Struggling for motivation to get back into it.  Despite having the whole weekend free (and even watching a fair chunk of Jardier's 24 hour stream) I haven't put in any laps as yet.  I did sit in the rig and boot up the game, but my Dad called me and when I was done speaking to him I just watched TV instead 🤔

Hopefully posting this will give me a kick.  Will try and get some laps in today.

Get you arse on there mate. Also watched a lot of Jardier’s stream over the weekend it was good stuff - the last stint with the weather was quite something.

You'll be alright mate.

I know the feeling as I was having that before the Christmas break. I made some adjustments to my sim racing corner during the break and that definitely helped finding my motivation back. I'm not done yet either - I'm still in the process of adding a 2nd monitor* (on top of my TV, for live timings) and looking for a solution to add the clutch pedal again, whilst still keeping the throttle and brake pedal centered (as I have now). So it's never really done! 😅

I've also ditched the 'FXAA on high quality FSR' for 'KTAA on quality FSR. Looks so much better and I barely notice the difference between the 2 quality modes, and seeing that KTAA uses more frames than FXAA I had to drop down in quality to still get to 60fps. Also tried to run ACC in 1080p with some higher settings but it just looks blurry on my telly and there's no way to crispen it up in that resolution. So I'm back on 1440p60 with a smooooth 16ms frametime. Sorted and settled!

* apparently, I can connect a 2nd monitor to the USB-C port that I discovered my laptop has!

I too struggled with motivation to get in the seat and practice.  Turned a few laps in the Aston, but as you can see - not very quickly.

@davejm are we using simracing.gp for our championship races again this season?  I'm not seeing the races to sign up to yet.  Do you need a hand creating them?

Yeah, simracing.gp again.  I was going to create them later today once I'd had a play around with the time of day settings 👍 (to see what time gives us a race end at dusk, that sort of thing)

I'll try and jump on tonight.

Coming to the end of isolation today and even though I'm now negative, I'm just knackered all the time.

In fact it's been my only symptom all the way through this last week or so.

Oh man, I wasn't aware that you contracted covid. I still have a funny 'wet cigarette ash' smell that supresses most other smells. I don't smoke, so it smells disgusting to me.

Thoughts on the sprint races for this season?  Qualifying for both races, or same as last season (one quali for both races)?

[impopular opinion]

I loved the single qualifying, 2nd race reverse grid methos we used to have.

I had mixed feelings about the reverse grid, but it polarised opinion and there's no way to automate it and it was a pain doing it manually.

Ah okay scratch that suggestion then, I don't want to create a hassle for anyone. ☺️

Thursday's event has been created... get registered chaps! :)

A reminder that this reason will feature real weather.   At 6:30pm (or thereabouts) on the day of the race I'll check the current conditions on track and this is how I'll set the weather in-game.  This will be subject to review as we don't want loads of rainy races.

Here's the forecast for Kyalami...

Damn @winky 5 tenths in sector 1, going to have to put on some serious practice to find that.

Hopefully we see you for a couple races but best of luck with the music and gigs.

Damn didn't realise either you were covid positive, fingers crossed the fatigue passes quickish. Might see you online later I'll be getting on for some practice as well.

I've no real preference about qualifying, I was a fan of the single qualifying session but I also did like the 2 short sessions which had the potential to mix up the grid for race 2, I guess for ease the single session is better.

I'm going to try get onto the server at 20.00 UK time if anyway one wants to hop on discord as well.
