Basically, if you're following another car closely you cannot brake where you normally brake, especially into the slower corners at somewhere like Monza, or you will definitely hit the car in front (unless you pull out to make a pass).  It can sometimes be surprising how much you close on someone who seems relatively far ahead on the track in a braking zone, so it's always better to err on the side of caution, brake early, then come off the brake like Aris shows in the video.  If you don't do this and you're at the limit of your braking there's nothing you can do to react.

Yep. That video changed my approach to braking whilst racing. Which makes my mistake even more galling!

That said, from the car park that was our first race at Monza last year, to last night, there's been a lot of improvement from us all.

On sgp gt4 + gt3 points plus 50 % more for Monza equal 148, plus 2 for fastest lap in Monza.

 

It doesnt effect positions, dont worry 😊

Anyone else interested in the Assetto Corsa 1950s Formula 1 @ Bremgarten races this Thursday?

 

 

The format is looking like this:-

• Race 1
  • 20:00 server start
  • 10 minutes of practice
  • 20 minutes of qualifying
  • 30 minute race
• Race 2
  • 21:15 server start
  • 5 minutes of practice (to get everyone on the server)
  • Reverse grid of first race finishing position
  • 30 minute race

Splendid job from me to @Erik, @SANtoOosand @SneakyNinja for the podiums! I'm currently busy making the leaderboard for season 6 with the new tech (auto-grabbing the results from the simracing.gp website) which is coming along nicely.

How is your break @Meers?  For season 6 I'm going to be having all the races under the one series on simracing.gp, so the leaderboard will auto update on there.  So there wouldn't necessarily be a need for the spreadsheet, unless you want to have it as a record for the future?  (or as a learning tool with what you're doing to grab the results).

@SharkyOB Do you have time for a session today? I was thinking we could either use the Nissan or some 3rd car and try to get that up to speed together at Monza or some other track. I can stream my view too with twitch or steam.

Ugh I love to race I just hate the AC UI (downloaded content manager - not sure it’s helped)

I will see if I can download and install the track tonight see if I can get on with it enough.

 

I got a new wheel, upgrade from CSR to a CSW. I expected a difference from previous but the jump in fidelity and build quality is incredible!

Hi Guys back from the vacation... seems like I missed an eventful race last thursday! Congrats @Erik for the championship win. Glad I was able to beat you in at least one race (even if it was your first time properly driving laguna 😅). And glad to see @Yannik joining as well from the powerQ crew 😄. 

@davejm I would definitely be interested to race this car / track combo on Thursday! Would be a nice historic race through an old hometown track of mine

Ah brilliant @texlex45, it's a really interesting combo!   Just had a practice now and I'm around 8 seconds off @SharkyOB's lap time and I'm all over the place, but it's fun.  I'm treating this Thursday race as a cruising session and I'm gonna try and get around slow and steady and enjoy it.

Thanks so much to @Erik for the coaching session last night!!  It's convinced me I need to start using the Motec app so I can try to understand more what the car is doing and how setup changes affect things.  I defo feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount there is to learn, but I'm up for the challenge

You can do it all without motec by paying attention to tyre widget, tyre wear and temperatures in setup menu and watching replays... But its easier to just drive some laps and then go see in MoTeC what pressures and temps you had.

Oh man, that sounds great. I wasn't aware that was a possiblility now. No worries, saves me a lot of work haha.

 

As for a learning tool, I have plenty of learning opportunity for stuff like this at work, trying to streamline workflow internally for us, so no worries about that either. 

 

Edit: break's going fine mate. Although we have a lot of rain in these parts unfortunately. Been at the beach with the kids on Sunday, the only nice weather day we had so far. 😅

No mate, the practice server only works for ACC.   I've got some PC parts to make a dedicated server (which I'm going to be able to use for AC and ACC) but haven't got around to building it yet.

Ah ok no worries mate. Was just wondering how you knew about @SharkyOB 's time on Bremgarten and thought there might be a server to answer that  

 

Did quite a few practice laps tonight to get the hang of the car and track and boy oh boy is it fun 🥳 The sliding, the turning the car with the throttle and managing the momentum is such a fun and different experience from the aero heavy GT3s. Managed a 2:38.6 as my fastest lap today but no idea whether thats any good or not...

I've sent out an email to registered members of the simracing.gp community to drum up interest for the multi-class race at the end of August.  I know this is some time away, but could I ask the regulars to register for the event, just so we can get it as fully populated as possible for any cross-community reach outs that I do?  Even if you're not sure to be racing, please register for now if you can.
