game performance was pretty good, I only had a handful of freezes.

Mine was saying I had 65-70fps but the frametime showed a lot of latency for me, causing an unstable 'flow' of the framerate. Only on Zolder, even in a single player practice session. Imola runs smooth as fuck in 1440p60 (which I've locked it at now, works great!). I have no graphics (trees are PS1-era flat textures) but it runs as smooth as a GTX1050 mobile can! No more Zolder in the future, please!

Yes, hugely so, I was all over the place in the first laps. Even more than I normally am.

Man, that must have been a lot. 😜

Me too. I think someone put a corpse in my boot or something.

And then some sweat started to come inside from the facial interface thingy.

Shame about your Zolder performance.  If I'd have known in the week you were struggling I'd have tried to get on and give some pointers (I practiced more than usual this week - benefits of being newly single :D!!).  I managed times close to Erik and I didn't take the curbs like he did; I don't think you can do that safely in the McLaren in a race situation.  Second chicane is where you probably weren't cutting in enough.  As long as you stay either side of the cones you're OK (until someone takes them out!).

Ah, sweat. there's your problem.gif

Yeah I was on the safe side in the 2nd chicance, I had 2 track cut warnings already. Car understeered as hell coming out of it. I think it's weird that track limits vary so much from track to track.

As I said after the race last night, I don't get much practice time due to family time of course (insert BrickTop.gif here), work and other commitments. But mrs Meers thankfully understands* my sim-racing needs and is asking me more frequently if I "need to practice for that racing thing". She then goes to visit her sister's** at the end of the block to chat and watch some Netflix stuff. So when I don't have a busy week doing other stuff, I get an extra opportunity to practice once in a while. It's not enough to be competitive here (you lot are much better than you think you are), and despite the shit race last night I enjoy racing against you guys sooooo bloody much. It always reminds me of how rare it is to have such a great group of sim racers! 🥰

* except for the need to buy a 2nd rim when I "already have one". 😅

** her sister lives close by and has hooked us up. 😁

I'm just sorting out the new season schedule and it will be a mini 5 week GT4 season running up to Christmas.  Maybe the GT4 cars will be easier to jump in and be up to a good pace without the practice?  You always did seem very good in those cars.   I think this will be a nice change to move away from GT3 for a bit.

Good idea. I love the GT4s!

I dont think they do really, except maybe for T1 and maybe the last bit of the very long right hander in Paul Ricard. On British tracks you need to have 2 tyres fully inside white lines. Everywhere else if you touch the black stuff inside white lines its valid, and sometimes you can go wider or cut more and be fully off the track(I'm thinking about Spa mostly) and the actual limit may be a cone or a kerb or another line that cant be touched.

If you want practice company, ping me on discord next time you drive Misano or whatever we have coming up here. Even if I'm offline. 😉

It really was! In race 2 I somehow bucked my usual trend and put in a really good first lap, it was so exciting to actually make two overtakes and stick 'em. And then for lap 2 I went all Initial D around turn 1 and 2 and lost all that fine work (albeit with style points). What really did for me in both races though was being unable to hold it together for the duration without making a serious error. I'm blaming tiredness making it hard to focus but maybe I just didn't get the car setup stable enough.

This was a factor for me as well last night. It can not be underestimated how much effect this has on sim racing.

I used to drink 2 cups of coffee before our races, but haven't done so in the last 2 weeks. Hmmm....pattern?

I started practice, managed a decent lap that met the timing during the week was happy with consistency for 20 minutes and then it just disappeared. On both races I had more pace (or the car in front was getting slower) later in the race.

Fun racing, apologies to Matt? (sorry struggling to reconcile all the names) who I verstappened at the final chicane, it was tight and ultimately it was me hitting the hole/kerbs there that spun us both out.

Also to the Mercedes guy, on the run to the 1 st chicane in the second race I gave you squeeze on the outside defending and I wasn’t sure if it was too much…

@Valver - fair play for sending it at the hairpin when I was fuel saving, I was just happy that I saw it coming and managed the cut back 😉

An idea from the Circuit Superstars thread. Could we have AC or ACC hotlap server, with car(s) and/or tracks changing every couple of weeks? I wonder if something like that would be interesting and have lower entry bar or be otherwise more accessible than these weekly races.

My thing would be that I barely scrape enough time to practice on the weekly race circuit, I doubt I'd be able to do much hotlapping on an extra track as well. And I really like our weekly races!

I wonder if we should try to make more of the practice leaderboard that we already have somehow though?

I thought most people already treated the weekly practice as competitive hot-lapping?  Or is that just me? :D

In all seriousness; I tend to do a mixture of race fuel practice but I still always have sessions where I'm gunning for that top time.   So I'm not sure that anything extra is needed?   I don't personally want (or have the time) to practice and time trial on another circuit/car if I'm doing that for the weekly race anyway (which is why I haven't delved into Circuit Superstars).   But that's just me.

Also, I don't have a way of easily publishing results from my server at the moment so I think it would be something that others would have to arrange if there is an appetite for it.   I could probably host the server (at a push) but we'd need to have an FTP service running or something so that someone else could pick out the results files and do something with them.

Qualifying Server for the season finale is LIVE!

A reminder that the Blue Riband event is a 1.5 hour Endurance with 2x mandatory pitstops.  Grid order is based on qualifying times set on the server over the next two weeks; up to 6pm on the day of the race.  Let's see what you have guys!

Oh, it's hot.  Very hot!

ah now that's just a little palate-cleanser in between sessions! A lot less intense :)

I usually go for a sort of middle-ground fuel load in practice week. Then full race fuel for the pre-race practice, make you all think I'm slow before I bust out the qualifying fuel load and shave about 0.05s off my time to fly into the middle of the grid.

Aha, that explains a lot! /s

Edit: Just you wait when I get rid of that corpse in my Macca's boot.

I'd forgotten we were hotlapping for quali on the finale race though, a fun little wrinkle! My week away is going to cut into my chances even more now, I'll have to spend it studying track guides or something. Serious business.

And I'm going to practice for Imola and for the 6 hours of Misano on the 6th of november. There's 3 of us I think, doing 2x1h stints each.

Erik asked if I would be interested in those Endurance races @Meers.  Based on the dates I think Misano and the final race (can't recall what track?) would be the only ones I can make (can't make the Bathurst race).  Sounds like you have enough for the Misano race though?

Looks like it's the 3 of us doing 2 hours each for the AM split. Our 4th guy is from the USA and he has to get up early if he wants to join, I think he took a rain check on the Misano one. So I think we're sorted but I believe @Erik asked you for a different split (silver maybe?).

First Saturday of December is the next one (12h) and the first Saturday of January is the last one (6h). Forgot which tracks though.

The RCI multiclass enduro tracks left are Misano, Bathurst and Monza. I was asking Dave if he was interested in case more drivers are needed.🙃

Besides those, theres also gt3 only 4 h Hungaroring on Nov 20, and after multiclass races starts a new slighly more serious 6-race enduro world tour which will have 12 and 24 h races. We will be there of course.

There are of course also many other communities that arrange quality stewarded endurances, but 1 or 2 big races per month is what most seem to prefer over busier schedule.

I entered another GT4 league, over at the Boonatix simracing.gp community.  It starts next Wednesday @ Bathurst, and we had a practice race tonight.  I finished last 😆

Was running around in the mid pack in a field of around 30, and managed to get to 11th place after the mountain claimed a few victims, but I wasn't going to escape its clutches 😬 Planted it into the wall with 3 minutes of damage, and with 3 minutes to go that was race over.  17/17!!

Was fun racing on the mountain as the sun set.   I took the Porsche and if you switch to Endurance lights there's an impressive blue hue in the cockpit, which was amazing to drive in when it was dark.  I recommend booting into a single player session and checking it out, Caymen GT4 fans 🤩

@davejm server conditions dont seem to be static. First time when I joined it was 6 o clock or so and 28/28 degrees, and the second time it started where it should have at 2 pm, but there was slight change in track temperature over 2 hours.

The time of day thing is a bug in the game.  You just need to come out of the server, then go back in.

As for the variation, I forgot to set it as a qualification server.  That's sorted now so it should be 35c ambient & 45c track temps all the time now.

Here's my lap, for the McLaren guys.  Still a bit of time in there.  I miss an apex early in the lap; Acque Minerali is a bit messy; the slow chicane is a bit too slow; and I get into a bit of a slide in the second to last corner.  It's funny how a lap can feel mega fast; but then when you watch it back you can spot all the things you did wrong.  It's a nice learning exercise I suppose...

EDIT: Forgot to turn on HUD to show the pedal inputs 🙄
