Hi guys, was working last Thursday and potentially working this Thursday eve, but even if I finish early and make the race , with this new update sounds like I'd have to put in a couple of hours on settings and VR game setup? Or is it fine? Won't have any time to practise before.

Will try and make it anyways, miss the racing!

You can just play on the settings you had and be fine. You will find it feels different (better) in the handling feedback, and if you get time to tinker you might be able to get some better VR settings for your setup, but no big deal to wait.

Great evening of practice and chatting to @Meers, @mrben09@milko and @winky.  Was cool to discuss set up, and discover a few things about the car and the new game changes together.  Really enjoyed it! :)

MAN, you guys are quick. Crunch time for me now to find the seconds I keep leaving everywhere 😄

Looks like I generally struggle in most corners but one trend I see is that:

1. I tend to lose about three tenths in the first chicane (t1 and 2) as I struggle to hit t1 at an angle that sets me up for t2 without sliding or having to drive at almost walking speed (i.e. either drifting almost into the gravel or rolling really slowly through t2. I Have to hit the breaks about two thirds between the 200 m and 150 mark to be able to slow down enough not to slide over the left hand kerb. Not sure what the best approach for this one is with this car, I try to stay as far left as I can for as long as I can but still end up with too sharp of an angle for t2.

2. Last turn - Parabolica...I struggle to find the right amount of breaking and angle for this one and tend to either underster/slide off track by mid corner or having to break too hard and slow too much to avoid sliding either on turn in or approaching mid corner.

I run TC 2 and ABS 3 or 2, have tried to have TC higher or lower but thiese sections are consistently slower for me with the same problems almost every time. Have tried lowering front anti roll bar and lowering the differential without really feeling any improvements.

I also tend to break either too much or too little for the lesmos but I feel that is something that will improve with time and laps, just like for Ascari.

Any advise on setup changes I might try? Or do I just have to accept that I suck and need to get my head down and be patient for another 100 or so hours? :)

After the 1.8 update, I found that I had to relearn the tracks (the ones I tried so far, that is). Not completely relearn, but more like change my approach. The new tyre physics will make you avoid certain kerbs like the plague, whilst others can still be blasted over like before. Some corners promote trail braking (1st and 2nd chicane), others need you to slow down on a straight line before entering (Ascari). It certainly take time to get used to it.

Whilst I'm in no position to advise anyone on how to be quick, a new approach that worked (once) for me with this car and track combination was to take the default safe setup and try to make it faster, rather than my usual approach of taking the aggressive setup and making it safer.

My 1.59.6 was done on the default safe setup with only tyre pressures adjusted for the conditions and some fuel taken out. (Not that I can do it again, of course)

Very interesting approach…! Never considered that before. Will try it tomorrow. Was able to knock off a couple of seconds of my time during a pretty hefty round of practice but still make a bit too many mistakes and struggle with grip here and there so will give this approach a go and see if it helps.

Really interesting challenge changing the car every week. Think I actually cherish the challenge even though there’s a lot of hating and cursing and depressive moments along the ride 😅

I would say I lose about three tenths (vs my own personal best) quite often in T1 and T2, it's hard to be precise when slowing down from such a high speed. And yeah, it seems best to go in painfully slow to set up exiting as fast as possible. My braking point is more or less same as yours I think, depending on how the tyres are feeling and how risky I want to be.

Me too. Braking earlier seems to help but I don't feel like I'm getting the most out of this corner yet, along with Ascari. If I come in fast I miss the apex, but it always feels like to get there I'm going too slowly, probably like T1 a big part of this is just the contrast in how fast you're going a moment ago, it makes you feel slow.

TC2/ABS2 for me most of the time (at least until the tyres are feeling better) but yeah, played a bit with dampers, spring/bumpstops, toe, rear ride height... none of it I could say I felt any difference, really.

Your sector times based on the table last posted (sounds like you've improved since then) suggests it might actually be the middle you need to focus on most, not the start and end of your lap  :)

Yeah, I've really enjoyed it so far, being forced into learning unfamiliar cars was just what I wanted - and not feeling handicapped because everybody's in the same situation.

Aris did a good video if you're interested in trying the 'start safe and work up' approach:

I got the hang of the oversteer issue, at least in that last session.  I mentioned to the guys last night (when I looked at my replay) that I wasn't trail braking all the way to the apex (almost every turn); and carrying too much speed into the corner.   I made a concious effort to trail brake much deeper (all the way from turn in, to apex) and I was able to stick to my braking points but slow the car down a lot more.  Much more control and grip for turn in and exit.

Managed to improve a bit, and I'm sure there's a 1:57 there as I was only purple in one of the sectors of my best lap.

Kinda bummed that I messed up Parabolica on lap 9 and scrubbed off nearly 3 tenths...

Lol, I could have written exactly this, but mine might have had more colloquial language.

Can anyone help me? Watching Dave’s lap and his break indicator is fully depressed, but for me I get abs yellow when it is pressed halfway.

I have noticed this before when watching other laps. Does anyone know why that might be.

Also this car is crap, glad I am missing the race this week 😛

Replays don't show the ABS or TC unfortunately.  ABS definitely kicks in for me too.

@davejm hats off for the trail braking in that lap, the one into T1 feels like something I've a long way to go before I could do it right.

Thanks, I still don't trail all the way in some of the corners in that lap; which is fine when the tyres are hot.  But being concious to trail brake deeper really helped me when the tyres were cold or when I hit the brakes a bit late; and I think if I'd done better with the Lesmos I'd have gained a couple of tenths.

Swears 😉

Epic lap @davejm!  Tried to beat it last night but I couldn't even get close to my own fastest lap 🤣

Here's the lap if anyone's interested...

This is a very nice lap, I noticed you are really early on the throttle in both Lesmo corners, I will have to try this approach in practice later.

Did some testing over the weekend with the HTC Vive and while it's amazingly immersive to drive I can't find graphics setting which are smooth and good enough image quality especially after the improvement FSR gave me on my single monitor. Anything more than 30ish meters in front of me while in VR is very blurry, numbers on the braking boards appear last minute. I find it really throws me off my braking and turn in points, is this something you just have to get used to in VR? I was averaging a mid 2.02 and best time was a 2.01 flat.

I set my time on the practice server on my monitor not in VR and was quite happy with the car, a bit cumbersome in certain corners and parabolica is the only real problem corner for me, I lost over 4 tenths on my fastest lap so have a good chunk of time to improve on. I'm unsure whether to race on Thursday in VR or not.

Do it, DO IT!!! 😈

@davejm blimey what a lap!

Might be able to practice tonight, the course I was supposed to attend tonight (every wednesday) is not going ahead.
