I'm super chuffed with last night's race, I really don't know where I found the time in qualifying, I was struggling to break the 2.03 barrier in practice so was very surprised to get pole. Starting from the front is really nerve wracking especially when you have @SneakyNinja and @SharkyOB right in your bumper and they were both faster than me. I was consistenly making a couple small mistakes in the hairpin and spoon which allowed both past in spoon on different occasions as I went wide, I just kept my head down after that and managed to keep my pace in the mid to high 2.04s for the rest of the race, pitted right at the end and to my surprise came out 13 seconds ahead of SneakyNinja. Knowing it would transition to night I over inflated my tyres a bit, they were about 28.1 for the first few laps but by the end they were still 27.2/27.4, only after the pitting on the penultimate lap did they drop below 27 so I think that gave me the edge and stopped my pace from dropping off, there still was some slower laps towards the end as it started to feel like an ice rink here and there especially at 130r I went really wide about 5 laps in a row.

Congrats on the win - well deserved.

I must admit to being a bit disappointed and slightly confused by my second place. I had the pace, made no mistakes, had a decent pit stop and... nope.

Looking at the times on simgp I think I must simply have not been fast enough in the second half of the race, and possibly pitted too early.

Either way, well done mate - I'll catch you next time :)

Sounds like I need to get into this LFM thing.. I've signed up, do I just need to get some races under my belt to increase my rank? Do we have a team on there?

Here's the team:-

https://lowfuelmotorsport.com/teams/detail/904

You have to get your license, which involves doing 7 consecutive clean laps on a hotstint server within 107% of the lap record.  There are a couple of hotstint servers; one for beginners with a low SA requirement and one with a higher SA requirement (80, I think).  Join the higher requirement server, as that means you'll start on a higher safety rating for LFM once you've gained your license.

You can then do the rookie races.  They're 20 minute sprints.  Once you've done 5 of these races, you'll advance to IRON license and an take part in the main 25 minute or 45 minute races.  Our schedule is lined up with the 20 minute rookie and 25 minute sprint races.

Server is configured for Misano.

The heavy bandaging is off, and I'm surprised at how it all feels.  I'm left with the minor bandaging for a couple of weeks, but it doesn't seem like there's any muscle damage or anything like that; because I've got full movement and strength in my arm with no pain.  I guess the tumour was all on the surface.

I might turn the FFB down and try getting back in the rig this weekend :D

I'm really annoyed that I had to cut the race short last night. I had barely practiced earlier this week due to attending to my wife and the kids as they had caught the stomach bug as well unfortunately (from me). Had a couple of broken nights too because of that (cleaning up puke in the middle of the night, yay). They're better now, thankfully...no fun seeing them so sick.

On top of that I've been rather busy at work (spent all day yesterday on a telescopic boom lift at 30m height in a bitterly cold NW wind at that coastal salt plant again). As a result from all that I was tired as hell last night. No focus, shit setup, no pace (was I dragging a trailer or something?) and sliding in turn 1 and spoon every bloody lap caused me to rage quit to the pits. Not feeling sim racing at all recently, I'm slow as fuck and I'm getting worse. No idea how to improve either. <_<

@Valverit was 130R where I blew past you on the first lap, I really hadn't expected to be able to go around the outside on that corner but that's how I found myself. Most surprising!

@Meers I think Suzuka in particular is really hard work if you're tired, or at least so I've found it. As to improvements, there's no substitute for hours at the wheel but I would try to remember what Erik was saying about coming UP to faster speeds rather than pushing too hard and trying to tame it back down. Then I contradict it a little bit by watching laps and track guides on YouTube, which at least shows how much it can potentially be pushed.

I'm far from good enough to teach but I don't mind hopping in a practice session and trying to be collaborative about going a bit faster together, sit in on a few of each others' laps and stuff.

I'd be up for a session like that, especially as we're all in the Macca!

Cheers lads, I appreciate that.

I think the real issue is the lack of time, especially in the last week or so due to aforementioned reasons. I've managed to have my laptop run at a good enough performance now, so that's not it. Lack of routine (practice) and lack of sleep on top doesn't help either. Trying to get some more of both in the coming weeks hopefully.

I think I also need some pointers regarding setups. I feel that since 1.8 (despite the game feeling better) there's been some changes to how the cars are set up that's completely different to what I understood about it before that update. If that makes any sense.

For the McLaren at least, I'm pretty much going with default Aggressive in most cases; sort out tyre pressure and pads, pull back the brake balance a bit if I can control it, tweak the brake vents to get tyre temps right (not quite as simple as it was pre-1.8) and then if I do anything at all after that it's been minor.

You have to do the license qualifying thing - drive a few clean laps on their license server.  Then you can enter events based on your safety rating.

Ah yes, I bottled it and changed down into 5th.  🐓 You just carried the speed...

Silly question perhaps, but have they adjusted the default presets as well with the update or did they leave them as they were?

@Meers generally they left them alone except for fixing one or two errors I think (Audi had some asymmetrical wheel rate settings in safe preset by mistake at one track, stuff like that). I don't think 1.8's changes did anything that requires dramatic alterations to setup unless you were skating on limits of over/understeer but I've seen people say they wanted to tweak softer front ends and things like that.

Unfortunately I'm not very good at feeling the difference when I change stuff, so it's hard for me to say!

The Nissan feels like a different car since the update, it's so aggressive on turn in now.  It felt really weird at the start of last night but I got used to it after a while and then the car just felt better; it's way easier to turn at corner entry, but is still controllable if you get a snap of power oversteer on exit.  I had a couple of really dodgy moments that I got away with last night, where I'm sure I'd have spun the Ferrari.

My method needs some practice time but I start with a safe preset, learn the track, get tyre temps correct and from there is tuning aero for under/over steer. ARBs to counter any aero tunes (say understeer on corner entry fixed by aero but then get oversteer on exit which is fixed with ARBs).

I may mess with toe and camber later but the aero is the big change that gets the car driving how I want.

I've been playing 'sims' (racing games with a steering wheel) for the good part of 17 years now, learned to tune cars from GT3 onwards and became quite handy at it. I never had any problems tuning cars all the way through AC...But ACC has been slapping my face on the setup department from bloody day one. I change one thing and fuck something up and ACC be like:

Thanks, I'm still a bit shocked I came out ahead of you at the end, after you passed me you were on average a few tenths faster than me a lap and were just pulling away. I guess maybe tyres cooling a bit in the pitstop and drop in temp maybe affected grip 🤔 I have always struggled to get pressure back up after a pitstop so I delayed mine as long as possible.

I'll have to put on lots of practice so you don't catch me next time!

Did my first LFM race today, started 4th finished 6th. Nice and clean, helps being at the front of the grid I suspect.

Only my second race outside our community, the first one was a disaster on the ACC public servers, where I was hassled from the guy behind for being too slow and he just rammed me.

Also changed my avatar in celebration of getting a higher rank in SFV.

I was assuming that for me to be that far out in front, you two were doing recce laps. I’d forgotten how much of Misano is basically taking shortcuts, so much cutting! I had a 1.35.0x before 1.8 and was never that hot at the track so I’m sure there’s plenty to gain yet.

anyway surely wise not to risk tearing your stitches, messing that up would take longer I’m sure.

@Meers :D :D

Ha! What are the odds? 😆

I'll be back for a proper session this week. Only been checking if my base setup is any cop. 😅

I've had some tutoring from the guys at RCI last night (f2oRT and Erik). They worked on my head mostly, because I had the wrong mindset to begin with (regarding hotlapping). They also reviewed my racing lines and braking points. Did much better after that and managed to better my 10-lap qualifying stint with 0.6s on average (iirc), which felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Hopefully I can maintain that mindset from now on.

Hmm me neither. I suppose you could switch it off. I've been checking out CPUs again and I'm looking at 2 Ryzen 5's again - the 5600X and the 5600G.

X has no integrated graphics (G has them), lower base (but higher turbo) clock speed (3.7/4.6GHz vs 3.9/4.4GHz) and slightly more expensive (€45). Seeing as you said you own the X, I'm thinking to get that one too.
