Assetto Corsa Competizione | Season 14 Round 5 | GT3 Sprint @ Donington

It was a nice change of pace, literally. It's a shame that seemingly every competition in sim racing seems to mostly ignore historic content even though we have absolute gems like every track by Fat Alfie available.

Darn it, was looking forward to some time in the rig today but turns out I've got 2 deliveries coming for a kitchen refit project.  And can't risk missing the delivery.  Sods law they'll come right at the end of the day 😄

Roll up! Roll up!

Can I invite you all to sign up for 2.4 hours of Spa in GT3s on Thursday 1st September.  This will be a team event, starting at 19:00 BST / 20:00 CET.

Event Details

  • Practice: 1 hour (18:00 BST / 19:00 CET)
  • Race: 2.4 hours (19:00 BST / 20:00 CET)
  • x10 time progression (24 hour day/night cycle)
  • Teams of 2 drivers
  • Qualifying based on an average of the two driver qualifying times from the server in the week preceding
  • Drivers will do 2 x 36 minute stints each
  • Drivers will swap after each stint

Team Pairings

  • Forum regulars will be placed into a hat and teams will be drawn at random
  • The draw for team pairings will take place on Thursday 4th August on Discord (we'll have a fun Assetto Corsa event that evening)
  • Once teams are formed, decide among yourselves which car to race
  • Decide who will be the primary driver
    • The primary driver must register the team on SGP and pass the pin (which is provided on registration) to the second driver
    • The primary driver must be the one to join the server first, and do the first stint

  • Register your interest on the google form here:- https://forms.gle/NtBgSwXeE4vVZxH87
  • Indicate on the form if you're available for the first stint.  I've aware that some people can't start at 7pm.  We'll factor that into the team pairings so those that can't start early will be paired with those that can

Engagement and Grid Size

I'm aware that a team event means we're halving the grid size.  So will be small even if we do get all the regulars onboard.  But it'll be cool to try a team event, and the short stint times and varying ability of the drivers will hopefully make it interesting.

If we don't get the overwhelming majority of regulars on board, we''ll bin off the idea at this early stage.  If we do, we'll open up the event to the rllmuk and TSR Discord; who can just register with their own team, which can hopefully increase the grid size further.  Let's see what happens!

Questions: can both drivers practice simultaneously in that session? Can driver 2 go off and warm up/practice elsewhere while the first stint is ongoing? I'm just aware my first laps in a given evening can be rough as heck.

Good question.  I'm not sure if you can both be on during the practice session (in which case I'll run the event practice session shorter, and folk can just use the practice server from 6pm until the race), but you absolutely can be logged out of the session while the other driver is racing.

alright, well I'm in regardless. I've put that I can do session 1, hopefully it stays that way as it can get a bit dicey.

That AC event looks great! Gutted that I'm not gonna be around for it, I'll be away.

You can be both on for practice, but if I'm not mistaken Driver 1 (the one to start) has to enter the server first. If you're not the active player you can hop off and/or rejoin the server at any time. Just be back in time for the driver swap.

I could do a tutorial on how to do driver swaps if needed?

The draw for the team pairings will take place during the practice session for this beauty of an event...

Join in for some classic 1960s race car action in the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale @ Feldbergring!

Unfortunately I won't be around for that one either. I will keep an eye on Discord (phone app), but I'm not sure if I can join the voice chat.

I've signed up for the AC classic - looks good

I also wanted to sign up for the Spa event, but I checked my diary and the wifes booked me and the family in for a glamping pod thing all that week - so I'm not about.  Arse. 🤬

Not sure if I fancy a race come Thursday, lads (I was planning on organising something). It's steaming hot in the loft and it seems we'll be getting an extension of this heat on Thursday. I'm sure it's bad over in the UK as well.

Just came back to the office after an inspection in the heat. It's 40°C in the sun here as well now. 🥵

When we do get back to it (and I too am currently thinking "nah" but I think it cools down a bit tomorrow) there are some changes on simracing.gp. TLDR we have to be logged in on their website on the PC we're gaming on to be able to join the race.

Quote

To join an event on ACC we have added one simple step to make sure the event you are joining is as secure as possible. From now onwards you have to be logged into Simracing.gp on the computer you plan to join the race from. For most people this isn’t even an issue, almost all the drivers are logged into sgp before the race anyway to get server passwords or check event configurations etc. However, if you join a race from your phone, tablet or someone else's PC then you must remember to login to SGP from your PC before the start of your race.

As an added reminder you will be prompted to remember to sign in to Simracing.GP from your gaming PC before your event starts.

‍‍

Once you have logged into SGP head over to ACC and search for your server in the server list. If you are on the driver entry list or spectator list your server will show up as usual. Anyone not on either of the lists before the start of the server start simply won’t see the server.

I just got a pc that's capable of running this and would like to get involved I got the base ACC game, is there any other DLC I'll need to join in?

I'll be getting upto speed with it but will be away for the next few weeks so would likely be around late August early September before it get on.

Any advice appreciated.

That's great! :)  We're having an off-season break at the moment, and with a few people away it might not be until the start of September that we start the next season of the league.  The USA and British DLC is a good bet to start with.  Next season will be a 'Transatlantic GT' series; so will be a mixture of the new USA and British tracks.

As for general advice, I started hot lapping to get my track medals which gave me a feel for the tracks and cars and the physics of the game; then starting doing random AI races.  Most people advise choosing a car and sticking to it, to start with.  So I'd recommend having a play around with them all a little until you find a favourite; then stick with that while you get used to the physics.

During the season we have a practice server running (configured for whichever track is featuring that week); so when we do get started again you can join in with some of that too; then races! :)

Otherwise just see how you go and ask any specific questions that crop up in here :)

Sounds cumbersome, but alright.

Awesome! Let us know in here if there's anything we can help you with in the game. We can even 'sit next to you' in a practice session to give you pointers. Quite a few of us have learned the game that way (and still are, inclusing myself).

Physics are pretty much the same as the real thing, or really close to it at its worst. 😅

I’ve got a new SSD coming next week so I’m going to dip my toes in the water again I think :)

Huzzah! Would be awesome to have you join in again, Nick! We need to try and get @SharkyOB, @SweatyTravolta and @Thor back in as well, to name but a few of the old guard.

I'm always signed into SGP on my PC anyway, so we'll just need to make sure everyone does the same.

The main problem is people that might be late to join that didn't ensure they were logged in prior, because if the server launches and you haven't, the server will never show in the browser.

I'm usually not, but I will from now on. 😅

I tend to shut down all the programs I don't need during gaming, Chrome being one of them (unless I'm streaming). It eats a lot of performance.

You don't need to have Chrome open.  You just need to ensure that PC is the most recent desktop machine that you logged into SGP on.

Unless you have multiple desktop machines there's no issue.  Just ensure you're signed in on that machine sometime prior to server launching.

Hold up, (I haven't watched the video yet). You have to be signed into the website at the time the server goes live or else you're out? That's going to be annoying.
