That looks really nice @Meers!  Congrats.

Thanks mate. Short story to this house - it was our first choice but we got outbid. Few weeks later, after we'd already found the other house, we go a call that the people who outbid us had withdrawn. So we hadn't signed anything on our 2nd choice, so we could still cancel that one. Our old bid on this house was accepted immediately. It was meant to be. 😅

Nearly highest settings at 2160p, 30 cars in view (40 makes it drop to 55fps, still not too shabby for 4K). Had to drop shadow detail to high and mirrors to 45fps. DLSS at balanced. Lowest fps is 56 (very briefly) I think. This was against AI, so in MP it should have no problems.

1440p looks a bit shit with DLSS. That resolution works much better with FSR. And with 2K I don't have to make any concessions, everything's maxed out. But 4K looks so much better.

I think I've grown to like this track.

I kind of like it, there's definitely some interesting challenge but I rarely feel like I've got the flow that makes me truly enjoy a track. We're all a long way off alien pace on this one, I think about a second or so more than we usually manage. But I can't see how I can improve by much more than about 0.5s! Well maybe that's not true, I've got a 1.37.1 offline and it didn't feel perfect. And the slidey bumpy surface + Porsche makes things a bit scary at times!

I will literally be coming into this with no practice but hey, my result position is locked up anyway.

Awesome!! :)  I've actually done a little practice this week, but in the McLaren.  Although I tried the Audi again at the end of last night's practice, and it feels better so I don't think I'll switch back to the Macca after all :D

I'm at a show on Thursday so won't make it. Have a ball.

So that's a... no-show from you?

*lets himself out

Race you again next week! Enjoy the show.

My mrs wanted us to go sofa hunting come Thursday evening. She was not amused that I'd rather stay home for the race. 😅

We struck a deal and now we're going to look at a new sofa this Saturday. 😄

That was bloody hard work but enjoyable. If I could've not had a little grass excursion and then a spin, I might've been able to give @SneakyNinja something to think about. Maybe. As it was, after pitstops I think I managed to take a whole tenth out of the gap for one 'almost the very best I can do' lap and then my car seemed to get extra slidey and went backwards into @davejm's clutches instead. Which was pretty awesome fun, as it happened, until I got the lucky end of some contact and managed to escape for the last couple of minutes.

Mixed race for me.  I loved it, and the hour really flew by, but definitely some frustrations.

Managed to hook up a ridiculous qualifying lap to split @Arthisins and @Ian Paskin but had a dreadful start and ended up near the back 😔 had the tyres pressures all wrong and was off the pace, so couldn't catch the guys in front.

Did an earlier pit stop than planned to try and sort out the tyres, and although it was a slow stop I was absolutely flying on the second stint.

Managed to get in the zone and catch @milko and pulled off a great overtake, then bottled it and dropped back again.

Absolutely corking race 👍

We missed you Ben! I have to miss next week as well, I've realised. Gutted I miss Donington but return for Laguna Seca, where my Porsche is pretty sure to finish up dead.

Try to make it safer, Porsche is like 5-6 tenths faster than all other cars in Laguna and even faster with high fuel. 😎

Safer and me and that track do not mix, in my experience, even in more stable cars. I did get my PR in last night's race with lots of fuel on, though! I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

@Meers How was your first race with the new GPU?

Yeah the 2080S is a beast. 4K60 at max settings (shadow quality is the only thing that I have to set at High). The only thing that it seems to struggle with is sunset/-rise where it drops 5 frames during that time (I think the changing lighting angle asks a lot of performance?). Other than that, it rarely drops below 60. So on ACC at least 4K60 gaming on max settings is possible on a 20 series card haha! I can't even imagine how much better the visuals on a 3080/90 card would be (would they? It looks pretty stunning already).

So far I've only tested Dirt Rally 2 and FS2020, and I can set those to 1440p60 on mostly max settings.

I started my race off well, but decided to start with a full tank of fuel which held me back pace-wise. Plus I got tired pretty early on (my son keeps waking us up in the middle of the night for the last 2 weeks) and I lost my focus in the 2nd half of the race. Not much to write home about. The shiny graphics compensated for my shabby race. 😅

I made the mistake of looking up ACC VR performance stats on a 4090. Seems it can run in VR with everything turned up, whereas a 3090 needs a few compromises.

Interesting to see that the 2080S outperforms my 5700XT https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2080S-Super-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/4050vs4045

Somewhat lonely race for me last night. @milko threw a 911 at me, but he just missed and everything exploded behind me. Had a good tussle with @Meers before I was all alone, watching the two aliens' taillights slowly vanish into the darkness ahead.

On the plus side, I didn't make any mistakes and despite Crew Chief saying my lap times "had gone to shit", my pace didn't drop off in the latter half as much as it usually does. Sorry if I was a bit quiet on the mic last night - I was finding it harder than usual to talk and drive so just drove. :)

The 5700XT sits somewhere between a 2060 and 2070 and is about as fast as a 3060 it seems.

The 2080S is just a tiny bit shy of a 3070. Interesting indeed, I thought a 3050 would vastly outperform my 2080S by a mile but apparently not!

So what's the benefit of the lower 30 series cards if a higher 20 series card outperforms it?

The Audi feels awful around Donington.  No grip, oversteer some places but understeer in others, skittish in the brakes, can't find decent TC levels.

Doesn't matter what setup I use (safe, aggressive, setups taken from streams) it just feels rotten.

Porsche feels quick but dangerous, just for a change. As usual McLeans can be dicey getting power on exit, and the end two hairpins need more patience than I want to have.

My better laptimes come when I get the braking and turning done in what feels quite early rather than trying to power through most of the bends, dunno if that would help you in the Audi @davejm. I can get back on the power early that way and probably should have done more of this last race too. The old slow down to speed up thing.

I've gone for the 488evo this time. Just absolutely loving it, it feels much more alive than the M4 and it just sounds incredible. Are we allowed to switch cars mid season? Strongly considering swapping it.

Yeah, I'm having a nightmare on the hairpins!!  I'll try being a bit more patient next practice and go back to some basics with the earlier braking.
