See I think @milko is just asking everyone to drive safely at 8/10ths so he can banzai his way into the lead on lap 1

Rumbled! My plan is for 9/10ths because any slower makes me crash just as badly.

I wonder why SGP doesn't auto adjust the times for the location of the viewer. 1930 UK is 2030 CET though, for sure.

It does but I still get confused from time to time. Very strange, as I have family over in the UK and have had to deal with the time difference all my life. Always seem to swap them around so just wanted to be 100% certain :D

I thought of another thing for safety, actually you can pretty much go at it over the mountain really but if there's yellow flags or "slow car ahead" it really might be somebody stopped just around a blind corner, that's the stuff to really watch out for. I found out to my cost when the AI did a Macau.

@davadvice1 heres folder with Misano Aston setup and the 2 telemetry files. Last of the 5 laps is 1:34.852 which is faster than pole time in last weeks race, but I did this with full tank of fuel. 🙃 That said that is not particularly good driving but driving line should be there or thereabouts. I think I had 3 or 4 more tenths in sector times.

Feel free to laugh at the setup, its just random clicking and slider moving with no tuning, science let alone telemetry wizardy behind it. The more I drive Aston the less I like it, somehow despite being long wheelbase front engine car it seems to really hate touching curbs and its very easy to slide a bit, lose traction and kill already poor acceleration.

What happened at the start there @mexos? Looked like you were way forward of where you should be, hence the drive through. Great pace and result considering.

'grats @SharkyOB! You are the Bathurst master.

I can't complain, quali 10/11 and finish 6, but I never really felt like I had the hang of it. Kept messing up downshifts going down the mountain, that cost me some time more than once. I think I worked it out by the last four laps, I was hitting the shifter too early. One day I'll figure this all out (but maaaaaybe not in the Porsche). Had some fun in the mix early on with @Valver but was sort of relieved to be driving solo (indeed on my own for a lap in either direction!) later on.

Well done to all who made it to the end, and those that crashed trying!

ah man! That was fun but annoying! I did what it said at the start and... drive through?! waaaaa!?!

Nice battle towards the end there :hat: . Dirty air huh? I didn't realise it was so severe.  @SneakyNinja I almost rear ended you at the esses, we were close, and the thing just slid like it was on black ice out of nowhere. Proper check the pants moment.

It was all a bit confusing - I was within the green box thing (that was totally new to me - didn't see that at all when I practiced a race, it did something else. ) then it flicks to this keep to a speed thing and the green box disappeared. I kept it under 70, the speed limit thing was the only thing on the screen, lights go green I floor it and get a penalty. Not sure what else I should have done?!

EDIT: ah presumably it’s a different start procedure when you do the warm up lap…?

Really strange! From my POV it was obvious that you and the chicken man were way out of position,  because you were 10 metres ahead (we should have been side by side going into the start/finish straight) and he was next to me.  Shame because it spoiled the fight at the front, looked like we all had really similar pace.

Loved that race, was totally in the zone and was able to lap at a decent pace and consistently fairly easily. For once, I didn't make any mistakes and had no damage at the end.

There's a single-file bit first, but it's the same deal, just keep in the box.

@mexos The replay shows you a bit ahead of where you ought to be - so that's probably why you got it, and then because @SharkyOB held back I think @OJM CHICKEN naturally came up alongside to go two wide on the grid, but was too far forwards as well?

I had a little tap with @davejm at the start of the twisty section - but was doing OK and held it together to eventually creep up into 5th spot by overtaking a broken @Corrangaabout a 3rd of the way through the race.  As I was patting myself on the back for being so clever, I messed up my line coming out of Sulman Park bouncing over that kerb on the inside left which hopped me right enough that I got two wheels on the sandy gravel trap bit at that corners exit.  So no grip, high speed, I speared face first into the barrier in a big car bending accident.  I teleported back to the pits after it became apparent I couldn't limp back to the pits by driving.   Loads of time lost in repairs and teleport penalty.  Came out in 10th.  Balls.

Decided not to give up and dragged myself back into 8th - and was rather excited to find I passed @davejm coming out of the pits for his late race tyre stop for 7th.  We raced for a few laps and then, I missed my breaking marker on that start finish straight as the sun had come down and I couldn't see the advert change on the barrier.  So I whizzed up the escape road in a blaze of tyre smoke and swearing.

8th.

In the Practice session right before the race I decided to add 1 to the rear wing to try to stabilise the car a bit and it seemed to work for me. I was happily behind Meers for 5 laps then I reduced the ABS from 2 to 1, except I actually reduced it from 1 to 0 😒

Next turn I went straight on, 25 seconds of damage, plus the time to get back on track, and a car that steered straight, but not so well to the left. I hung it out for another couple of laps as I was only dropping 2.5 seconds a lap, but spin coming out of the last turn (no damage) and decided to pit. Repaired the car then did the longest stint I’ve ever done at that track at a mediocre pace and didn’t bin it.

I think I should be pleased with 5th, and I’m happy to (just) finish on the lead lap, and I doubt I’d have made it to 4th without all the drama, but I’m still annoyed at myself for turning the ABS off!

Good to be back racing with you guys! I made a lot of stupid mistakes but had about half an hour in the middle where I felt I was in some control and managed to be pretty consistent. Was fighting the urge to quit after the third hit in the wall in a few laps time getting one broken car after another but told myself to stay because all these mistakes are because I’m not very used to racing with other people yet. So I’m going to keep working and fighting against myself pushing to get up on the level the rest of you are.

That said, it was SO nice to have a permanent rig and not having to worry about the gaming chair sliding and skewing my seating position. Now I can jump between driving and music making without having to move the wheel and pedals so from today and onwards I’ll be doing a lot more racing. Will be easier for me to consistently show up for these races too as I no longer have to rig up and down each time.

We’ll done you all! See you next time.

Looking at the results on simracing.gp as I wanted to compare my best laps to others.

It seems that finishing 5th is the bonus points position (presumably a simple typo when it was setup)

Nope i had the same issue i was in the green when i started and i've done hundreds of starts at this point, i stayed in the green and held 70 although i gained a lot when holding 70 and then bam drive thru with no explanation. Didn't matter in the long run i crashed lap 1 at T3-4 and then pitted after the drive thru with 21 seconds of dmg and then 10 mins later crashed in the exact same spot so not really a good race for me. Congrats on the win @SharkyOB coulda been a great 3 way fight but these things happen i guess

What kind of music are you making mate?  If you ever need basslines recording we should talk 😊

Now that is weird and interesting. And just when I was happy letting it go as a n00b mistake on me.

I'd watched @Valver's vid and I am miles away from the rest of you. I would have thought being that far ahead that would have had me in the red zone - which I was nowhere near when the speed limit thing popped up.

Hey ho. It was still bags of fun. I will try and practice this type of start (if you can in single player?) before the next one just to be sure.

That was a great race last night for me. @SneakyNinja's Aston has a wide arse though and he barely made any mistakes for me to take advantage of. Just before the halfway point I understeered into the barrier in the last downhil lefthander (where the back straight begins) which cost me 15 additional seconds to repair. This allowed @mexos to get back in front of me again after his SG30, and SneakyNinja to be ~13 seconds ahead of me when I left the pits.

I managed to catch up to both again in the winding section around the last 15 minutes of the race, but because of the aero damage and running max wing I couldn't make a difference on the long straights. Still, I had plenty of close-action racing! Been there, got the t-shirt!

Honestly this is one of the biggest things that helped me get more pace and consistency. Playing GT from week to week my performance was all over the place. I put a lot of it down to my seating position (playseat challenge) + distance from the screen always being different. Once that got locked in because I had a 'rig*' I just got better.

*my rig is the chair from a Playseat Challenge and a LOT of plywood. Actually I am about to mod it a bit more so will post some pics for the lulz. It's not a looker but it works!

yeh definitely weird certainly a new bug to me if thats what it was and sorry for the big bump at T2 i broke earlier but got a bit carried away. I don't think you can practice these starts in single player as far as i know single player doesn't even make you control your speed so maybe just a few public lobbies or a couple LFM races might be good practice if you get the time.

Once more every time you caught him you got excited and started to overdrive. 😎
