I'm anticipating racing tonight so should be about for highlight duties.

Unfortunately I had to have our dog put to sleep yesterday, so I'm a bit wobbly emotionally.   But I think I can still spot my braking points through misty eyes... 🥲

Oh man that sucks. So sorry to hear that!

I was away for a bit and when I got back everyone was gone, your message was still in the chat window so I gathered you were not feeling it which is a shame. Are you not joining regardless or is it because of the KTM? I'm sure one of us could hook you up with a setup if need be.

Nah, I have to take my team out for Christmas dinner. Given I haven’t actually met half of them face to face seems like a good opportunity.

Hate the car though, so it’s worked out well.

I really like the car but I am worried it's going to kill me later.  If you're even a few metres late with your braking it's pretty much a guaranteed massive oversteer moment when you turn in.  Might try to go towards a more understeery setup after quali!

I really hate the car, and it will kill me later.

It's the first time I can't tame a car to state where it's nice and pliable. Even the 911 wasn't this bad. Still, should make for exciting highlights.. :)

That was some fun racing tonight, didn't have the greatest start to either race and lost positions which I somehow managed to gain back.

First race my pace was pretty decent I was keeping close-ish to @SharkyOB but @davejm always had the advantage and was pulling away in front. Stole the fastest lap of him and came home second, really pleased with that result.

Had a really fun battle with @Count Buffalos in the second race, I just couldn't get the traction down out of any corners to overtake so tried some mind games which paid off into ascari and due to the date @SharkyOB had with the wall a few corners earlier and daves misery in T1 I found myself in first place,  I was making a couple silly mistakes and I was sure I would be caught by the shark closing up behind me. I could hear the jaws theme in my head, again I got lucky and the gap opened behind me so I tried take it easy the last few minutes of racing, had a couple wobbles but kept my cool and took my first win. Absolutely chuffed with tonight's races.

I had a blast tonight.  I found the KTM a bit of a handful (and I spun from 3rd and had to sit at the side of Ascari waiting to rejoin in 8th in the second race, which was frustrating)  but I think the FF feel through my wheel has really stepped up a notch.  It felt alive.  And while you all are complaining about the car, I found it sort of suited my style (whatever that is).  You're all overdriving the shit out of it, and suddenly I was a load more competitive...

Race 1 was EPIC thanks to a right back and forth race with @Meers  Man, that was brilliant.  I was faster from the last corner through sector 1.  And then you tended to pass me back on the straight after Ascari.  Only for it to repeat the next lap.  And the lap after.  And the lap after that.  And we frequently went two wide for multiple corners.  Just brilliant close racing.  I was buzzing!

In race 2 I was battling Nick for 2nd (!!!) and I was loads faster in one place (to the point that I was needing extra braking mid corner to not run into the back of him).  Until the spin where I parked up for 20 seconds to let everyone pass safely...

So, here are the highlights from Race 1:

And Race 2:

Congrats to our winners.  Especially @EuroVapeSim2 for a 2nd and a 1st!

I'd like to dedicate my  podium to my dog Paddy!  Hope you're having fun over rainbow bridge  - it was an honor to throw your tennis balls for you.  This ones for you mate! 🥰🥲🐕🍾

Wow last night was interesting.  I've never had more contrasting fortunes or performance between the two sprints.  The first race was a textbook example of consistency to take the win; but the second race was a disaster.  I got the tyre pressures all wrong; so they were way too high and I just couldn't keep it on the track :(   I tried really hard to go easy on the throttle after T1 but there was just something really odd happening on corner exit and I couldn't sort it out or learn from the problem from lap to lap.  Total bobbins, and my worse ACC race ever!

Bah, i got Ascari'd hard into a wall early in race 1 and had to pit for ages, then was going nicely in race 2 but got Meers'd twice (we are quits for race 1 of the season now!) and then Ascari'd again and had to do the last lap or two with my steering at 90 degrees. Enjoyed it but not very successful overall! Time to learn rain driving.

First time I came last! Go me! Achievement unlocked!

Ah well.

I agree with @SharkyOB's comments about that 'car' highlighting your trail braking techniques. I was making or losing 3 tenths on corners each lap which must be down to inconsistent trail braking. During practice I had a proper zen lap where it clicked and I was 1.2s up, and it felt like I was braking deeper.

Might be time to try and work out how to use the Motec stuff as I can't see enough on the replays or feel enough in car to recognise what I'm doing differently.

Man this was fun. Even though I'm significantly slower than you guys I thoroughly enjoyed it again. Best way to improve my race craft and get used to racing with people. What a great bunch of people you are, thanks for letting me hang with you! See you in 4 degrees ambient temps at Brands next week....! 😄

Thanks for the kind words, Kris. It's great of you to join us, and I guarantee you will get faster over time. I learned a lot from these gents and have become a little bit faster too because of them.

I don't get the complaints either, it's a great car! But you really have to be a smooooth operatooorr and nurse it around the track. It also doesn't like engine braking (more of that below).

Our tussle (is that the right word?) was epic indeed! This is the best racing - hard but clean (that's what she said?) and I knew I could trust you around those corners. Hats off to you, sir. That we may have many more in future races. :hat:

And why are my eyes getting wet?

I don't know why I did that. In the 2nd Lesmo I had to avoid Gaz as he was driving seemingly erratic  and I had no idea you were next to me (were you? my spotter didn't infor me).

The parabolica mishap was completely on me. The car started to slide in 3rd gear because I came in too hot, so I shifted down to 2nd. The engine wouldn't have any of that so I started to oversteer. To make it even worse, I shifted to 1st because I panicked and that fucked it up bigly. Sorry mate.

Other than that, I had a great race. Love the car and had good results overall.

Trailing deeper was the key for me in taming the KTM.  The replay showed me that I was finishing my braking half way between turn-in and apex; rather than trailing all the way.  So I wasn't slowing the car enough by the point of rotation; then 'bam'... oversteer.  So it's worth just taking a look at your replays just to see that you are trailing all the way to the apex.

My issues in the second race were oversteer on exit, which was frustrating.  Just too heavy on the throttle with over-inflated tyres whilst clipping the curb just sent me off at the exit to T1 time and time again.  The other times I did have oversteer on entry (at Ascari) was due to me getting sloppy with my braking and not sticking to the technique I'd learnt in practice.

First time I was not quite alongside but almost and you were up the inside chasing... then as we were all braking - at least from my eyes, not watched the replay yet - you suddenly swerved out wide directly in my path and also were going slower than me and I didn't really have any time to react at that point. I'll watch it back, maybe I could've been driving more defensively but the Chase was on!

Second one, yeah, we'd been duelling well and I saw you slide out wide while I got it right, then saw your tyres start to catch and it was like "ooohhhhhh shit, I wonder if I can get through in - nope!".

Anyway, no hard feelings at all. I'd been thinking all chase DO NOT CLIP MEERS since I'd done so in the very first race of the season as well :D

I think the biggest challenge the KTM posed was its inability to get some heat into the tyres. My SimDashboardtm  app showed that the tyres on the right side were consistently 10°C colder than the left side ones. This was of course due to the track having more right-hand corners than lefties, but even in higher track temps they wouldn't heat up effectively.

I wasn't mad at all for you clipping me because I know it takes little effort for me to do the same. We all make mistakes and this is all for fun anyways. 😄

Yeah I supposed I 'moved under braking' behind Ninja, I would have to check it as well in my replay.

I just stumbled on a quote and video from Aris, which I think are words of wisdom:

"If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough".... Bullshit except if your name is Mario Andretti or any other similar level alien. For everybody else, watch the video. It is important to stay in control, stay comfortable and improve your speed step by step. When you're pushing too much too early, you're simply going to get slower and frustrated. Don't try to go as fast as others, but try to improve yourself gradually.

It's an older vid, but I hadn't seen it yet so I thought I'd share.

You see it as erratic, I see it as losing the rear in the corner and frantically trying to gather it up and being tagged whilst doing so :)

So, yeah, pretty much on me.

Yeah but the one hitting someone from behind if usually at fault, which would be me @milko😅
