Assetto Corsa Competizione | Season 14 Round 6 | GT3 Endurance @ Watkins Glen

Had another 12h endurance race too on Saturday.

We had a pretty good race (on Bathurst of all tracks ) and finished 6th. We qualified 7th and Andrew and Sam managed to climb to 3rd in the first and second stint. I fucked up in my first stint (third stint into the race) by hitting a kerb too hard caused by a sudden drop in framerate, which made me misjudge the corner. It damaged the nose and bottom of our 720S slightly. I managed to keep it out of the wall though, but carried on with the race and not come in for repairs (as advised by my team). But despite that the car still handled well, I lost quite some time per lap and was in 8th when my stint ended.

But the lads reckoned we could get back up the ranks and Hugo too over for the 4th stint. He did well and was 7th again at the end of his stint. I took over for the 5th stint, which went much better and was free of incidents. I'm not the fastest in our team, but I am very consistent so I didn't lose  any positions (I think I ended my stint in 6th even). My third and last stint (stint 7) went great too and we were still in the race without any major incidents (we'd expected to have crashed out by now, Bathurst is intense). But to our surprise it went swimmingly.

Andrew took over for stint 8 but unfortunately he hit a car who'd spun in the twisty downhill section. Yellow flag came too late to avoid him. So he had to come in for repairs. I had to log off after that so missed a lot of the action later on, but @Erik kept us posted every now and again. 10/10 would join again, what an experience. So awesome to be part of such an event. 😎

Chaps, I'm out for Thursday's race because it's my dear mum's birthday. She initially wanted to celebrate it in the weekend but due to Covid cases exploding again over here, she decided to only have me and my brother (plus wives and kids) on Thursday and keep it at that, which is sensible of course.

So you'll have to slide around in the rain without me. I love racing in the wet on Brands Hatch. It's amazing! Even set a decent laptime last night!

Anyone got a caravan?

Best wishes to your mother on her birthday this Thursday.

You were flying when we crossed over for a few minutes on the server. I just need to put in more laps, l have a love hate relationship with paddocks hill and sheene's, feels great when you nail them but the car just loves to understeer wide into the gravel.

Anyone going to give 'Low Fuel Motorsport' a go?  It's a platform that hosts regular races and features a rating system (based on ELO) and a safety rating system.  Looks pretty nifty.  In order to race you have to complete 7 clean laps within 107% of the current race lap record.  I've signed up and will complete my license tonight.

I'm way off in the first sector, where are people braking into T1?

Early!  Being in control and hitting the apex is way more important than braking late there.

The thing is though, I know this is true but I still have trouble executing it!  So easy to be too late on the brakes or try to carry too much speed in Paddock Hill.

Cheers mate. :hat:

Yeah I couldn't find the grip at first, but it turned out I still had my TCS and ABS dials in the McLaren 720S position (1 and 4). Switching to 4 and 8 did the trick. I love how you can feel exactly when you lose grip in these conditions, with these updated physics.

Just past the crest at the top, between where the sign on the left says 'brake' and the sign with the 2 red stripes. I also use the lines on the right, where the pit exit meets the track outline intersect. I keep as far left as I can. In the wet I'm braking at the brake sign though.

I should know this, as I've done loads of track days at Brands, including some instruction. I was told, over the bump, wait for the car to settle then brake. Turn in starts by the green access road thing on the left.

On track days they move the BRAKE boards forward a bit and I scared the life out of one instructor by sailing past it, knowing I could brake later :)

That said, I seem to do that corner differently every time in ACC.

That's so cool! I only ever have done a track day on the circuit in Assen, in an Audi TT (early 2000s). Assen's layout is not as spectacular as Brands Hatch though! Wish I could drive there one day as well.

I think I was usually braking for T1 on the two red stripes sign when I was practicing, but absolutely erring on the side of sooner rather than later so I can get on the power again early. Kinda shocked that my quick hour on Friday evening has seen me in top spot so far though! Now I have the fear that I'll be unable to get near it when I next get on track. Oddly seemed to find it easier to stay within track limits in the rain in the Alpine than I did for the GT3 dry race we did.

Ok so earlier the better with braking and early on the throttle! Hopefully some better times will come in practice tonight.

This is awesome, would love to do a track day with an instructor.

Turn in as late as possible as well, so that you have the straightest line downhill. I apply the throttle on the apex already, but because there's a bit of lift-off you have to make sure your wheels are straight on the way down.

This looks good.

I registered and just took my license on the SA95 server - passed easily enough.

If enough of us join, do we want to create a rllmuk team?

edit:   Actually - sod it - I've just created us one.

Name:  RLLMUK Racing

Sorry to all the non UK rllmuk drivers - I had to pick a specific country for the team - it wouldn't let me pick "a cool mix of Europeans!"

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Just saw this edit. And yes, we still feel betrayed. Bloody offlanders! 😉

I also joined the LFM league.

Did the low fuel motorsport licence earlier today. Wasn't too bad, did a couple warm up laps before jumping on the server, kept it safe and inside track limits.

I jumped into the practice server for 10 minutes then and straight away I did a 1.42.100, thank you for the tips about T1 braking guys.
