I've been watching vids of this game cos it keeps on coming up in my feed, usually people with actual real dashboard setups driving amongst real-world traffic, and leaving me wondering if it was real or not.

I've looked at comparison sites between this and Gran Turismo, and the genera gist seems to be that this is more realistic than that game.  Correct?

It's an old game now, right?  Is it still worth getting?

It's coming to the end of its scheduled DLC releases and has been out for a number of years.  It's still a sim at the top of the pecking order though.  ACC pretty much cant be beaten for competitive GT racing.  (but that's *all* it does)

Is it worth getting - on PC, for sure.  Although its a sim and not as much of a game as Gran Turismo.   On console, I've not personally tried it, but its supposed to be a bit behind in both updates and DLC releases.  Not all the reviews on console have been as glowing as on PC.   It's missing the ecosystem of Low Fuel Motorsports, or SimRacing.gp  championships and stuff on the consoles too.  Hardware support is also much more limited on the consoles too.  On PC, anything with a USB plug on it is fair game - and thats likely the format where all the cool dashboards and triple screen set up vids have come from.

"driving amongst real-world traffic" - now this makes me think - did you mean the original Assetto Corsa?  That's a much older game - still brilliant mind, but needs modding these days (again on PC) to look as you'd hope.   And add real world traffic.  It can have a much wider range of cars and tracks - basically everything possible has been added over time via mods.  On Console its probably *not* worth getting these days, simply due to the lack of modding.

HTH

Oh I get both of you, it's two distinct games, and ACC is the sequel.

It's interesting though, I thought the popular alternative was Forza (whichever is the latest).

So ACC is the newer game, but its not really the sequel to AC - it was a sideways move for more focussed competitive racing sim.

There is an "Assetto Corsa 2" in development currently - which we are assuming will be a moddable larger scope sim racing sequel to the first one.

Confused yet 😆

Indeed, @Smoothy was referring to the original AC. It can be compared to GT in terms of having a lot of cars in a lot of classes, but the simulation model is regarded as being a step beyond GT's.

ACC, the GT3/4-only 'sequel' to AC and focuses primarily on that class. And it's that focus that allowed the developer to increase the realism and simulation even further:

:D OK I get it now, kind of a "spin-off".

EDIT: also after watching a bit of that video, i can see why the FIA moved from GT to ACC as their official eSports partner game.

Yeah exactly, a spin-off!

Having played both games (a mate's got GT Sport), I think it made sense. Comparing GT with ACC is like comparing NFS with GT. They're in totally different subgenres within the general racing game genre. If that makes sense...

That was the closest race that I've ever had, @davejm! This one went on for an hour no less, just neck and neck racing from start to finish. Amazing! :omg:

I've uploaded the replay but it's still processing HD/4K so come back later for a better picture (the video's 42Gb so it may take a while).

Speaking of picture quality, the video shows a lot of artifacts around the cars. It's the dithered effect that you see around sharp edges. After recording this I discovered that it was caused by motion blur, which was still on for 'replays only'. The effect was gone after I switched motion blur off.

But there's another ghosting effect going on, and it seems to be caused by TAA. I've not seen it before when I was still using FSR and KTAA on the GTX1070, but because I'm using DLSS now I can't change the AA anymore (I suspect DLSS uses TAA?). I don't see TAA ghosting at all in @Valver's replay, so I'm wondering what your specs and settings are and what I can do to eliminate the ghosting?

FSR can't match DLSS on my system (in 4K at least), but it's pretty good in 2K whereas DLSS isn't (too blurry for some reason). The ghosting's mainly in replays though, so I think I'll live with it. 4K is just too good to be swapped with 2K. 😅

And that's a wrap for Season 11!

Congratulations to Ryan for giving us all a good drubbing!   Well done to runner up @SneakyNinja too!

Well done guys! However I think the 2 worst results still need scrubbing, or has that been done automatically?

For my replays I have the Epic setting selected (@1440p), contact shadows set to on, DLSS off (yep, that can cause some ghosting) and I have TAA applied in the Gen 5 variant.  HTH.

I wish it looked like that in VR!

Yeah baby, first of the losers! ;)

The result's a little bit artificial as I took part in more races than most, but hey, I'll take it.

Great opening couple of laps yesterday racing with @Valver but once that settled down it was basically 45 mins of driving around on my own. Losing another 5 secs during the pitstop for no discernible reason put me in a grumpy mood and I just wanted it to be over. I think it might be because I've got ignition and engine start mapped to same button with engine start being a long press, so maybe it's taking too long overall.

But still, another great season and despite moaning, still loving racing with you guys.

I'm very close to just buying a new 4090 based PC so it *does* look like that in VR.

It should have been done automatically @Meers!

That was an absolutely cracking race, and my favourite ever in ACC.  Just incredible stuff.    Thanks mate!

Ah right! Woo P4! 😄

Seems you're really one with the AMR! Absolutely stunning performance. And how easy is to to catch up, only to take ages on an overtake (cleanly)?

Aha! I'll see if I can replicate that. Cheers!

alright lads! @mrben09 said we had to do the most improved driver without him this season.

Who did we say would be the sponsor? I remember us deciding it one race, but I forgot who it was now. Also since @Meers has won it so many times I think he should be the person to award this one. Unless it's to himself.

Sponsor? I dunno. I remember talking about it as well, but I also forgot who it was.

Most improved? I'd say @davejm this season.

I can see OJM Chicken, Phil and Whacky Teddy all got great point scores despite not completing that many races - I guess with more attendance they'd be challenging for top spot.  But hey, you showed up and raced consistently and scored those point legitimately - congrats on a well deserved 2nd place!

In our little battle at the start yesterday, I got a decent start to nab your 3rd from you and I was able to punch in a few 2.00 laps -  but I really struggled with consistency.

There are so many corners that I just cant do well unless all the planets align and lady luck gives me her blessing.  I seem to lose loads of time by screwing up my line through "The Loop" that then hurts my pace all the way down the Wellington Straight.    The first corner Copse is basically a lottery on if I do it cleanly, go really slow, or go wide and pick up a track limits warning.   I can easily end up unintentionally Tokyo Drifting my way through  the Maggots/Beckets set of corners.  Every now and then I get it right and find Ive gained 0.8 second.    And Abbey - flick it right and hope for the best?  Anyone else puckering hard there?

And hands up who has Brooklands and Luffied sussed.

I hate Silverstone 😆

I was thinking a lot about that during the race whilst listening to @Meers and @davejm talking about almost losing it every other corner.

I was never close to losing it at all. Sometimes the back might twitch a bit under heavy braking and I just need to take a slightly modified line but it's never a puckering moment.  It's the same pretty much every race, so am I doing something wrong? Is that where I'm losing time? I can't remember the last time I had a spin or wall incident in a race without being nudged.

If I try to push a bit harder it ends up with breaking traction and a loss of time. I've no idea how you guys slide about without being slower!

My M4 felt planted, but when the tyre pressures got above 28.2 psi, I struggled with grip at the end of the first and second stint. I was also pushing harder than normal because of my scrap with @davejm. Later braking caused me to go off two or three times.

No chance! :D  I was really bad this season compared to others, because I didn't do barely as much practice as usual.  I think yesterday's race is just fresh in the mind :D

I was much slower during those moments.  Mainly when going off the normal line when battling with Meers.

This is a good reminder of how we've all improved. My old tactic of holding station and waiting for inevitable incident ahead just doesn't work any more as you guys are far more consistent. (Spoiler - Imma still gonna do that!)

Very true!  I just dug out this screengrab from when we practiced at Silverstone in July 2020.   So in my case I've got from 2:08's to 2.00 in two years...

1716516918_silverstonepracticeJuly2020.png.70c9c8d0fce7be00aed29620474cde15.png

And these are pre the 1.8 patch lap times when the cars were faster (the currently applied nerf added about 0.5 to 1.0sec in laptime).

Clearly my increase in pace is due to all the expensive sim-hardware Ive bought since then.  I must buy more 😉

Sounds like you need to get back in the Porsche! That definitely has some moments where, as I've got better at handling it and finding some setup values that work for me, I can toy with traction a little bit to get good turn-in. It just took most of a season to get to do it with even a tiny bit of confidence and obviously it's far from foolproof still. Any significant sliding is way slower. But yeah, I've only known you drive the Aston and the BMW, both of which seem to me very safe compared to my normal rides when I've tried them. Combine that with you being a more careful driver than me anyway and I'm not surprised you don't feel as 'on the edge' as I usually do. Honda was the same for me too :)

You might be onto something there :) I'll get back in the 911 and see how much it wants to kill me.
