I did think of you when I posted😂

Haha, I am the annoying outlier git!

I had a quick go racing the AI. Going fast on your own is one thing. Doing it in the pack around Bathurst is... hmm!

I tried it set to 90, and.. they brake twice on the way up the hill where I don’t.

The starts are utterly impossible too, too many slow cars in a small space. Will pop the difficulty up and see if it’s better. Really I wanted to feel what following a car does to the aero balance, but I felt so slow I’m not sure there was aero 😂

I could run with them at 97%, but then I was faffing around with buttons etc and crashed.

Speaking of damage, what level is it set to in the races?

It's always 100%.  There's no concept of variable damage levels in ACC.

Oh I was hoping it was going to be set to less. 😅 I just did 20 mins of a 1 hour race. Sat in 4th, 100% ai. Keeping up so I’m happy but… Tiny mistake in the esses, tap the wall and round I go. Cue huge pile up and game over. The walls here are brutal.

In online races where you’re properly broken, you can teleport to pits if you can stomach the five minute enforced wait once you get there. Normally that’s a race over scenario but there’s probably a reasonable chance of a few people doing it this week, I’m sure some points are still attainable.

Yeah, there's points available down to 14th place; so as long as you finish it's worth carrying on.  Just depends how frustrated you get when you put it in the wall, and whether you're in the mood to stick out the rest of the race :D

Yeah, and for that reason it'll also pay off if you're super careful from the get-go. Take no risks until you're in clear air. Concede a (couple of) position(s) if you need to. This race isn't won in the first few corners.

Narrow like Monaco but it actually has 3rd highest average speed after Monza and Watkins Glen. Mount Panorama is faster than Silverstone or Paul Ricard.

My experience goes a bit like this.

Top the hill when you are close to flat out - usually easy but if you clip a kerb wrong = ded.

Entry to the esses - brake a teeeeeeeny bit past the banner and the back end goes = ded.

Minor wall tap in the esses with the pack behind you = round you go, cue a Macau level pile up. You guessed it = ded.

The rest of the course is pretty straightforward. My number one mistake is the dropping left hander before the back straight. How many times will I turn in too early and clip the inner wall. And it's straightaway light front damage.

At least I can drive this version of the course. The one in Gran Turismo is my kryptonite. The esses are impossible to me.

This is all true, but unfortunately I also have the problem where if I drive too carefully I also crash. I suppose because the car's not in the optimum position and all my timing cues are out. Best I can do is to lift a little in some of the mountaintop corners where it's possible to be flatout if I'm brave enough.

Yep there's a lot of points that will kill you ded. I did a 12h endurance race there (one of my first with @Erik's crew) and it went surprisingly well. Granted, I did only 2 or 3 hours and I had a massive moment over the kerb in that right kink at the end of the back straight (just before the last chicane, don't hit that kerb full pelt!), but no issues in the esses. So it's perfectly doable if you don't take massive risks.

MY MAN. 🤝

I can see both perspectives. In GT7 in the races where I've built a gap and then driven slower more often than not I've 'fallen asleep' and made a Senna Monaco 88 of my own.

The restraint needed when in the pack - picking when to push and when to hold back when a "slower" car (one you think you have the pace to overtake) is the one I absolutely agree on.

If I am in clear air I need to push.

I tried an hour race last night against AI, 30 cars on track, I finished 29th, and only because one of the AI cars parked it in the pits for 5 laps!

I had damage completely off too, I just binned it a large number of times

I also took a pitstop when the AI didn't (as it seems you can only mandate 2x pitstops or 0 pitstops in single player modes, unless I'm missing something) and I wanted to practice a stop.

I'd add to Mexo's list - T1, I drop it on the kerb, or don't catch the rear end.

It's an odd track, it's when I drive at 80% that I bin it, almost like I relax too much and concentration drifts, and then so does the car, into a wall.  If I'm pushing, I seem less likely to make a mistake, but following another car over the hill is when I have to slow down / stop pushing so much, then I bin it.  At least I seem to be doing well at not taking other cars out, though I seem to collect them.

When you bin it on the narrow bits, and the AI basically drive into you:

"both cars receive a safety penalty"

I was stationary, there are wavy yellow flags, how can you even remotely blame me for the contact!

More practice required.

Is there a list somewhere of everyone's names that appear in game to forum names? I'm old and I get confused.

Obvs I can understand if we don't want that list floating on the internet for 'reasons' but I was just curious if there was a safe way to do it.

No offence intended. More a tongue-in-cheek poke at my own age. 😅

Well i could make a screenshot with the forum names scribbled on it if that's safer?

@Corranga you can turn off the safety rating stuff for offline if you like. I certainly do as I tend to be a bit more experimental! If you ever need an SA boost though, switching it back on and hanging around within 1s of an AI driver for half an hour is a handy way to do it.

T1 is indeed a secret sabotage place. All that concentration on the hellish mountain-top, a simple right-hander at the end of a short straight ought to be fine, right? And then you use a bit too much kerb and spin the back wheels and suddenly you're parked in the inside wall.

@mexos I'm Mike F, if you like! We were lapping a fair bit the other evening.

Hmm, I think I see one of my problems now actually, it's a left-hand turn.

Ooh! Should I visit?

Quote

Foxhol is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is part of the municipality of Midden-Groningen. In 1842, the potato starch factory Eureka was founded in Foxhol by Willem Albert Scholten.

what a claim to fame! I’ve lived on London longer than I ever did Wales now, if SGP let me choose British I’d have gone that way, but it’s nice to put a different flag into the list :)

Haha you may visit but it's not much cop if you're used to London, very rural. I live about 15 minutes further to the east in Winschoten. Willem Albert Scholten is a legend though, the company's name is Royal Avebe now and it's one of the - if not the - biggest potato starch producers in the world. I'll have you know.

Someone did a Chrome plugin in the past... so some names show like this for me...

Any interest in me getting this up to date?  Looks quite simple to add new names.

Didn't one of the Norwegian guys make it?
