Are you guys using max wing for this one, because I do.

no long straights and slow corners, focusing on mechanical grip and lowering wing increases rotation which the macca desperately needs, at least im hoping that how it works otherwise i've just said something very stupid

Won’t be able to make tomorrows race but hopefully be ok for the next one (although think there is a break in between?).

Yeah there's a break after this one. Back on the 2nd.

I can brake SO MUCH later in the Porsche. I can't carry much speed down the mountain though, I think that's where I'm losing a lot of time since I'm still slower than that. Maybe. God, it's almost enough to make me try and bust out the MOTEC, but I don't really know how.

SHOW ME. I NEED TO KNOW!!

Anyone an expert here? Be pretty cool to compare laps.

Only useful if you can compare very similar laps with the same car and setup and if you cant otherwise see the difference. I think in-game replay is better for analyzing laps.

Yeah I'm mainly comparing myself to aliens on YouTube where motec isn't available anyway. But there are times on this circuit where I'm not completely sure what I'm doing differently from lap to lap somehow but it's making a big and horrible change. Before Motec I'll just try some slowed down playback. Or just keep lapping and cursing.

You can do stuff like this, here you see my 2nd lap is faster butlose the time when I get poor exit out of Forest's Elbow. But to get an idea what I actually did differently I need to go see the in game replay.

That's the killer feature. Have the replay and the data alongside each other, synced so you can scrub through and see both at the same time.

ACC popometer service does have telemetry + car position on track: the true position so one can see if the used line was different and how much track width was left. Thats even better

👀

Ok so it's a paid feature. But I could see myself using something like that for a bit at some point just to get rid of bad driving habits I have (like using too much steering).

How do you know you steer too much?

I’ve twisted my knee in the snow this morning. I don’t think it’s going to be very comfortable to use pedals so it’s unlikely I’ll be racing.

Oh man. Take it easy yeah.

And you have snow in the UK? *looks at spring-like weather out of window*

I worked it out a while ago in GT7. I would trash my tyres easily in races and you can hear the squeal. I played around a lot with my style doing time trials as I was right at the sharp end  in the tables and with that you are looking for tiny improvements here and there.

We were on track together last night. It was like watching Travis Pastrana.

  Old habits die hard. I like to have not a lot of wheel rotation - formula style. It helps with turn in - but you can over do it.

Hmm okay I see. In ACC overdriving can and will grain front tires in just couple of laps and then they will never come back. Something very quick and dirty you could try is to increase steering ratio and tuning car to be slightly less understeery.

The issue I have it that if I remove angle then I don't get the turn in I want and I lose seconds of laptime. Or I just under rotate into the wall. I think this is rooted as a symptom of not being a real, as in IRL driver. I drive 10, 20, maybe even 50X the miles in games each year I do actually driving IRL. I haven't driven any car in 6 months for example.

I think its unlikely, real cars are rarely driven anywhere near limit of grip. I dont drive much either; Im fortunate enough to have everything within walking distance.

Sounds like maybe you are not slowing down enough before you steer. You will probably need some muscle memory overwriting. Have you tried the GT4s? Things happen much slower in them and they have poor road car like ABS that teaches you to brake in a straight line before turning.

Yeah that is exactly what I've been working on. I'm getting there in the slow corners, but there is work to do in the medium speed.

In ACC a quick thing is to change the relative volume levels so you can hear the tyres more easily, then you can hear them scrub and lock up clearly. It's at least a nagging noise to remind you that you're doing it wrong.

Can't make the race tonight, kicking myself a bit, we haven't raced bathurst in a while and it's one of my favourite tracks as difficult as the mountain section is. Probably a good thing though, I got practically no practice done this week and after last weeks races where I hit the same barrier both races miles from the track, I think the mountain would chew me up and spit me out in a lap or two 😅

Getting my two drop race results out of the way, so I gotta drive the next 3 in each series perfectly, nothing like a bit of pressure to help.

That's it, everybody keep retiring out, I can make top 3 without finishing more than four laps yet!

I also find the track compelling enough to be a favourite, but it's a real love/hate thing at the moment.

 I did this in GT but never thought to do it on ACC. Probably because ACC to a new user is a bit like this already.

You mentioned that a wet track feels more slippery in GT7 than in ACC. It's more slippery in FM7 as well. Maybe for dramatic effect? I drive a lot every day and rain doesn't make tarmac less grippy than dry weather. Unless it has been dry for a long time, then it gets really slippery when it first rains again (due to all the muck buildup).

Same for me.

As I said above, I drive every day. And when I do, I never drive my Rio near the limit of grip.
