Looks tidy to me, which makes it hard to spot where you are losing time. The one I do see is at the hairpin. You are treating it like 1 corner when it's actually a double apex.

Is that the camera you are using to race? I can hardly see the track!

Pretty sure that he uses VR, so that’ll be the cockpit view sans head movement.

Could I pester you guys to critique my fastest lap so far? There are 3-4 tenths to be had in the middle sector, but any advice on my general technique (or lack thereof) or any Nurbs specific hints would be much appreciated.

Few things in quite a lot of corner it looks like your sliding on exit maybe be more gentle with the throttle and as has been said the hairpin is a double apex and maybe you could brake later at the final chicane but overall it looks pretty good

@SneakyNinja looks all tidy to me too, which makes me wonder if it's just that you're not really taking the car all the way to it's limits of traction on the corners and could do them a little faster? Might need a view that shows the steering wheel and HUD to know. I could simply be mistaking the way a sensible car like the Aston looks compared to the daftness of my chosen steed.

Good point about gentle throttle application, thanks. It's one of those things I 'know' but seem to forget in the heat of the moment.

Interesting point. It always feels like I lose time if I push more, especially with understeer on corner entry but I'm 1-2 seconds off the fastest times so it's gotta be somewhere!

Edit - 2.5s off!

Stay left for a tiny bit longer after turn 3 before turning in for t4.

Same for t6. Stay in 2nd gear as well.

T7 (hairpin right) should be more of a wedge line instead of following the kerb. Just overshoot the corner a bit, 1st gear and accelerate out full throttle.

T11, hug the inside kerb a bit more and straighten the car out towards the outside kerb coming out of it.

Last corner, stay in 2nd gear, hug the wall on the inside more.

How come it's 50fps?

Top tips, thanks @Meers

The Aston has quite a lazy 2nd gear but I'll give it a go.

50 fps? Can't say I really notice :) Might be the built in Windows GameBar recording thingy I'm using as the AMD one is crap.

I watched again on a bigger screen so I could see the hud properly and I dunno, it’ll be marginal. Do you really need to tap the brake in the Schumacher esses? I barely have to lift just a tiny bit in the Porker, you’re doing that a bit more (fair enough in that car) applying a little (comfort?) brake and dropping a gear.

It seems a bit swings and roundabouts there. If I don't slow a bit and change down the gearing in wrong for the pull up the hill so I lose time there instead. That said, maybe I need to monster the kerbs a bit more and carry more speed through there.

Ok, no idea why I picked the NSX other than being different and it felt ok when I jumped in it.

Hopefully I’ll make the race tonight and not mess it up entirely. My head is still full of wheel settings and button configurations rather than being focused on trying to drive properly.

Bit worried as the pit didn’t seem to work when I was on the practice server last night. It just warped me to the end of pit lane as i crossed the speed limit line. Quit out and tried in another car and it was ok, so either a NSX thing, or a me thing, or a one off weird thing

It does that if you blow the speed limit. Bad in a race as instead of the warp you get the drive through/stop-go/disqualify penalty depending on how the settings are configured.

I used to drive the NSX. Fun but dangerous times! I think they changed it quite a lot since those days.

Yeah it's even more fine for newbies really, even ones that seem to go quicker than everybody else.

The Jag isn't really competitive with the rest of the field, and the M6 probably not ideal either, you don't see many of those since the M4 came out and even before that it was a rare sight online. Might see you on the server later!

Theres one track where Jag might be the fastest car. Nils has proven M6 to be competitive: it has higher pace potential than M4 around many tracks including Spa(2:15 laptime no problem) but is difficult to work with.

Ah so it's a preset thing. I thought VR was capped at 50.

It is? I used an FOV calculator and everything! I'll get my slide rule out again and adjust accordingly :P

I'm on 46° with my 55" TV and a distance of 80cm between my eyes and the screen. Looks like this:

My own wheel is covering most of the dashboard and is perfectly in line with it. I can see the rear view screen and the rest of the HUD fine. I use the in-game wheel to adjust the in-game seat position (until my wheel overlaps the in-game one).

Granted, I sacrifice peripheral view this way, but I have a much better sense of speed and distance judgement this way. I compensate for the lack of peripheral vision by having my driver's head look into corners when I turn the wheel past 90° (but only slightly and in hairpins). So sense of speed/distance > peripheral view when using a single screen.

Ah it’s a me thing then. Going to take tonight as a learning experience, nowhere near up to speed yet.
I take it you can’t mess with gear ratios? Feel like I’m between gears in some corners. Unlearning my Gran Turismo habits is proving tricky as well. Manipulating slip angle in this game/car is a very different prospect

I'm in the Aston and I was messing about with this last night I find I just kiss the first kerb lift to around 50% throttle and attack the second kerb I'm carrying much more speed on exit and can commit, admittedly it took lots of spinning off to get a balance.

I was taking the next section in third but suspect that as you say the gears are a little lazy and I should go back to dropping to second.

Edit:Imola to I'm

I suspect Nils could make a Trabant competitive with us lot :)

fuuuuu, I think my replacement cable can't handle the data rate. As soon as it gets busy, or the light levels change, or the rain eases, I get this horrible flickery tearing slideshow - it's not like the game slowdowns when it can't handle the detail. It's not there in practice mode, or at least only barely. All things considered I'm happy I managed to get to the end of that, it was a fun race despite it all. Tough lessons in how unfriendly ACC is to newbies out there as well with the pitstop weirdness. @Valver well done staying close enough, I just couldn't quite hold it together. Sorry about our earlier bump, it seemed a bit of a dive from my perspective but I was also struggling with a bit of sensory overload, it may well have been all my fault. In which case, justice done on the last corner there :)

gratz Meers, well driven.

New cable ordered. Hmph. So hard to trust the reviews.

Cheers Mike, but there was a lot of luck involved in that race for me. @SharkyOB, @OJM CHICKEN and @mexos were faster than me in the opening stage of the race. I don't know if I could have kept that pace up if they weren't as unlucky as they were.
