Oh he does say to trail brake.  He breaks down the corner into different stages, and a slight coast is noted as a way (after the trail braking phase) just to keep some control for people that are struggling.  But yeah, I'm sure its not suitable all of the time.

I'm with the girlfriend this evening but I'll try and pop on afterwards if its not too late!  Cheers mate, appreciate the offer.

Every now and then I'll be lapping at a consistent pace, unable to improve then out of nowhere I''ll make up 5 tenths on one corner without any idea what I did differently, so I know there's more to find.

Try racing in real life without data recorders.  You suddenly find out you beat your best time by 0.5 seconds in a 20 minute session but you never find out which corner it was and most of the time you can't even remember anything about lap 12 of 25 in a session you just did anyway!

Sounds like good excuse to buy some timing toys to me!

Thanks @SharkyOB for the help last night.  Got some good tips, and I've definitely got a better idea of how to take some of the corners & sequences.

Looking forward to some more practice then the race tomorrow.

What were the timings from last night, think I did I a 2:01.3 or something like that? I can tell I’m probably leaving a couple of seconds on the table just with poor lines, not carrying speed etc. At one point I gained 0.8 secs at Stowe alone but rest of lap was rubbish.

Come on then, spill the beans! :D

I watched this to get an idea of lines etc. 06:50 onwards is a corner by corner analysis.

I'm carrying too much speed out of Maggots, so I'm out of control when tackling Becketts.  If I scrub a bit more speed I should have more control of the car with the aim of getting a better exit and more speed on the hanger Straight.

I think I can take more speed through Luffield too.

Otherwise I was mostly OK, I'm just inconsistent.  So consistency will come with time I think.  Even when I did my fastest lap there was time lost in some areas, so if I can start to string it all together I'll be a lot faster.

Thanks, that's one of the videos I watched (and made load of notes from). Yorkie065 was another I think.

In the hot lap at the end I'm sure he brakes later than described in the walk through. Actually, that's my biggest weakness, braking. If I brake where he does I can never make the corner.

I'll watch it again :)

I'm the opposite. Slow, but mostly consistent. (the odd, temporary improvement aside).

Good point about setting up for hanger straight. Still my natural reaction to take every corner as fast as possible then lose it all on the straights. I *know* better, but doing better is the hard part.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to see what is involved there.  I'll see if I can bring it online to see if it 'just works' after the update, or whether any server file updates need to take place.

I've decided to lob my £18 in the ring and have bought the GT4 DLC.

Hopefully I'll get some more practice time on the server for Silverstone tonight - so far my laptimes have been fairly horrible.

I read that the GT4s are about 8 seconds a lap slower.   So about the same pace as I'm doing in the GT3 right now then  :D

Is the server set up to allow any car types, or is it limited to GT3s?  At this point Im still learning the course...  so probably doesnt matter what car I do it in!

Yeah, I've bought too.  Kunos can take my money for whatever DLC they throw out.  ACC is incredible.

Yep, the server will allow any car types at the moment (I had to copy a new config file up, so I could see the option in the new one where this is set).  I quickly jumped in the Maserati and joined the server, to test that it was back up and running.  So all good I think.  I'll just configure it with the full race weekend and do some testing at some stage prior to the race though; just to test that everything is fine since the update.  There's a new server manual too, so it'll be interesting to see if there is anything new that I can do with the server.

Ellie (my dog) was very well behaved this evening. :)

Managed to get into the 2:02s with both the Nismo and the Aston, and I can feel there's time to find in both cars at different points in the track. The Aston feels a bit heavier, which is actually not to my liking, so I think I'll be driving the Nismo tomorrow, in which I managed 2:02.148. :)

I'm never racing my own karts. Because I don't have one sadly.

I did get a Go Pro at least partly for this though, at least I can now figure out what my best lap looked like.

Race day chaps!!  We could have some closer racing this week... should be a cracker!

Practice

  • Time: 19:00 until 20:10 (70 minutes)

Qualifying

  • Time: 20:10 until 20:30 (20 minutes)
  • Qualifying will start immediately after the practice session timer ends

Race

  • Time: 20:30 until 21:15 (45 minutes)
  • The race will start 3 minutes after qualifying ends (comfort break time!)
  • Dry weather, 7pm (in-game time) start with a 4x time multiplier

Important

After qualifying finishes you'll be placed on the grid and a 3 minute timer will count down.  Ensure that you click 'Drive' when able (within 30 seconds of the race start).  If the timer ticks down to zero and you haven't clicked 'Drive' the game thinks you are 'away' and will teleport you to the pits and you'll need to start from there

Pit Rules

  • 1 mandatory pit stop for a change of tyres is required
  • A 10 minute pit window will open during the middle section of the race.
  • You can pit at any other time, but you must change tyres during this window
  • You can refuel during the mandatory pitstop or at any other time during the race

Joining the server

  • PM me if you have any issues connecting to the server
  • You can join the server at any time during any of the sessions
  • If you join when the race has started you'll start from the pits

Here are the latest timings from the server...

image.png.2f943c8f56bd75ff5d71bfaa28d82bcd.png

Unfortunately any sessions from yesterday evening haven't been logged.   By default the ACC servers don't log results, so you have to turn that in in the config... and that setting was reset when the game was updated to 1.5.  Something to be aware of for next time there's a major game update.

GT3 cars all use paddles.

I'm thinking of getting a shifter.  Gonna take a dive into Assetto Corsa (the original) with some of the older cars soon, so if I get the bug for that type of racing I'll get a shifter I think.  Especially now that I have a clutch pedal.

Server down? Was hoping to get a couple of hotlaps in at lunchtime.

It was up and down this morning while I sorted the configuration for later, but it should be good now.  I'm out at the mo so I can't check.
