Does anybody else find it (engage conspiracy theory mode) a bit strange that MS suffered from leaks about stuff but Sony have managed to keep stuff locked down?

Everything about the PS5 so far was either publicised way ahead of time by Sony (they outlined their whole plan for it about 18 months ago in Wired), or so unbelievable as to be leak-proof (the design).

I expect this to be bad PR week for Sony.

I think MS have sent Sony a curve ball on price (which they had to - considering the very real lack of any next gen Xbox software).

And I cant see how Sony won't come out of this looking like the much more expensive option... They aren't going to drop their prices to match MS - because they don't really have to. This is properly the week they have been preparing for the whole summer - where they give us the bad news.

Long story short I got a replacement, but it took a couple of months.

the replacement is the PS4 I still have had use, like yourself.

A couple months?!

If it's brand new and obvs under warranty, you should have got a replacement straight away surely!

Shame they can't do an E3 press conference when they unleash the clanger. Would love to hear them go "$599.99!" to an audience that responds with stunned silence and Bert-stares.

I doubt Sony has spent months playing pricing chicken with Microsoft in order to price themselves out of the market.

I think the pricing will be very competitive with the Series X, while the Series S is a very different proposition that they won’t directly compete with.

That's because they're planning to beat the One S. $199.

You aren't getting a replacement from someone if they don't have any stock. And some retailers *cough* Argos *cough* would rather sell their stock than use it for replacements. Despite their obligations.

When I still worked in a videogames shop, I got in a massive fight with my boss about a guy who had bought two launch-PS2s (yeah, way back) of which one was faulty and simply wouldn't boot games. I wanted to swap the console, while my boss wanted to send it in for repairs. I had to take my boss to the back to actually explain that this was *our* problem and he casually replied that if you offer repairs and they agree, that's that.

The guy had bought two PS2, memory cards, controllers and pretty much all the launch games, and somehow my boss was still of the opinion that he shouldn't stick his neck out for a customer like that. At that point I realized retail was not going to be in my long term plans.

Not surprised. I still work in retail and I see that attitude far too often.

The PS5’s system-on-a-chip, its core processing component designed by AMD, is said to be a particular issue with yields as low as 50 percent at one point, meaning that half the parts produced weren’t fit to ship. While that figure has been improving, according to Bloomberg, the yields are “yet to reach a stable level.”

Are we looking at potential hardware issues for the first batch of consoles, what if the 50% that got through develop issues later?

Tempted to sit out these first batch of consoles now.

Every item you’ve ever owned with a microchip in it cane to you via a similar process. Yield rate issues aren’t indicative of failure rates on products.

Man, what do you listen to?

Sometimes people release music that doesn't chart. It's not like there's only allowed to be 40 songs a week!

For all I know I've listened to chart stuff, but since I'm not 25 anymore I don't listen to radio 1 to find out.

Ok! I’m not sure where the whole chart thing came from
