So - is it A Known Thing for the PS5 not to come out of Rest Mode properly?

 

Several times, I've put mine into rest mode only for it to go dark, and fail to start when using the controller. When I use the main on/off switch, it complains about not being shut down correctly and rebuilds the system databases. No power cuts, just rest mode.

Never happened to either of mine. Get it replaced.

Do you have an external drive connected, if so disconnect it and experiment with rest mode? There were some early issues where external drives were going to sleep. Other than that it seems a bit hit a miss with people, my PS4 would occasionally do the same thing but PS5 has been ok so far.

telling my son

dont just wander off and let it go to rest mode

 

its a pain in the arse.

but sure, what some people say it’s never been a problem for them, then ask if they have an external drive attached…

To help isolate whether it might be a compatibility issue with an external HDD which was one of the reported causes.

I have the same problem. Out of box PS5, no external HD.

 

I just changed the settings to prevent it going into rest mode by itself and never use it manually. It's an annoyance that it doesn't work, but the console and games boot really fast, so it's not a big issue to just switch off rather than put it into rest mode.

 

It's not a significant  enough problem for me to want to send the console in for a repair (assuming it is hardware problem).

They did.. unfortunately didn't have a PSN+ account at the time bah! However the update talks about sales... impressive at 20m+!

I was going to ask how much it costs to leave the PS5 in rest mode. Insofar as the interesting question might be what are we as individuals willing to pay to have the convivence of rest mode features. 

 

But if it is not very much I won't feel bad about leaving it on rest mode.

I think the sales of Forbidden West are going to be a lot lower overall and Herman hulst is going to destroy Sony first party.

Reading through the interview he seems to have a good focus on things. I really like the fact he's embracing pushing things forward all the time with new IPs etc. Whether they turn out to be good or not is another matter entirely but at least hopefully we'll see some different things to continue to come through to PlayStation.

They did, but this is sales specifically (PS4 + PC).

They won't be. Sony has been very good at growing its franchises. God of War 3 for example was 'only' around 5 million on PS3, now it's 20+ million. Uncharted had a big groth as well and new IP like Horizon, The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima also sold really well. And many of their games will now release on PC as well, so extra sales. God of War is doing really well there. If anything, Hulst is making lots of smart moves.
