PlayStation 5 - Next gen is here!

I think the UI is mostly fine and snappy enough. I have some small niggles with it though, mostly related to the new and bollocky way parties work since one of the latest firmware updates on the PS4. For one it's pretty cumbersome now to quickly see which of your friends are online. You have to go the Game hub thingy in the quick menu, where for some inexplicable reason the latest parties you have joined are displayed above your friends. Why would I want to see this instead of who's online? The other thing is that leaving a party you're in is a pretty contrived process. I don't even know how I've eventually managed it, but it doesn't work intuitive at all.

I bought 4 games without realising (had 3 in my cart and it didnt specify i was buying 4 games at checkout only the one i tried to buy) and now sony wont give me a refund. Saying they can only refund a game if it has not been downloaded.

But they download automatically, it wasnt until the next day i realised i had these 3 extra games. sony customer service has always been shit but this takes the biscuit.

Yeah, had the same problem at the pub (before Covid).

I ordered one pint, then they served me a dozen more (I don’t know why) and had the temerity to try to make me pay for them, saying, I quote, « You drank them ».

You can't check out without it telling you the price of your basket. Did you not wonder why your one game cost you like 4 times what you were expecting to pay?

Just had the Demon’s Souls update too. Strangely it let me load the game and then time out on the Demon’s Server login before notifying me that there was a download to install. Still had to “copy” the update after downloading too. Which took a lot longer than it took to download the patch.

Finally got my grubby mitts on one thanks to the awesome @Jei :)

Unfortunately though I’m having external HD issues right off the bat. It recognises the HD (which I had been previously using on my PS4 pro under the same profile) but it just sits on ‘Checking extended storage. Please wait...’ when I try to load a game or transfer to internal storage. Anyone run into the same problem or can offer up a solution?

I thought just a page or so ago you had sold your PS5?

I can't say this drama hasn't been anything less than entertaining!

I have someone coming to buy my PS5 today.

I do look forward to getting another when a game I want to play comes out next year. Hopefully GT7 and GoW2 are not too far away.

How many games are on the drive?

It took a fair while for mine to be read and sorted ready for use (5TB drive with just over 2TB of games).

I think that's what some of the "Other" folder is on the SSD - cache files for games on external drive so it can access them faster rather than searching the whole drive.

So, does anyone know where the supposed 180+ help videos reside in Demon’s Souls? You know the ones you need PS+ to access? Is it within the game, somewhere in the game’s page on your dash, elsewhere in the PS5 interface? All I see are the usual activity cards of the world you are currently in, and in the game the tutorial area button/action guide recap vids - like those in God of War.

They exist somewhere right? Anyone?

I've only ever seen them in relation to a boss in the activity cards. The cards usually come up with the level you're currently on and if you click on the card there will be a 3 part help video on the boss, each part revealing a bit more. Haven't seen anything non-boss related tbh.

With Astro Bot can you save mid-level (other than via rest mode) otherwise isn’t launching a level just the same as launching your save? Granted it’s not Quick Resume but I find rest mode is adequate for that.

What I’d like to be able to do is create/pin my own cards e.g. WRC 9 has a card for the weekly challenge but not the daily so I’d like to create a shortcut for that.

Yeah, just using it as an example that I haven't seen the ability to launch direct to a save file in any of the three games I own. But you're right, in AstroBot is not really needed. Demon's Souls on the other hand, I would probably never want to launch a level direct from the OS so I always have to go through the cold boot when playing the game if I didn't leave it in suspend mode.

I do have a PS5 OS audio question. When I would play EG golf at the weekends, I would mostly plug the pack-in wired earpiece to the controller and have the chat audio on that, with the game audio coming out of the TV. Can you have that same setup on the PS5 (and if so, where do you specify it? I think I've only found ways to route it all through the headset or the TV and to alter the relative sound levels.

You can use the controller (no mic or anything) to party chat and the voice will come from the speaker and you just speak and the pad picks it up. Press the button so the orange light comes on to mute, when light is off, its a mic.

I think that is what your asking?

Yeah thanks - I have discovered that and it does work (although the speaker was pretty quiet for chat.) If you plug an earpiece in, it seems as though it then redirects all the audio.

You have to set output to Headset first in the audio settings, doing so will give you access to a filter below it to set it to Chat Audio Only. You cannot do this while audio is set to TV/Soundbar/etc. It's another weird UI quirk that can make you search for ages to find a rather common setting in an illogical place.

Unfortunately, I expect you're going to be stuck with them. Sony support is still bloody awful, by all accounts.

Yeah looks like it.

At least i will have Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, some drum game and a another game i cant remember to play down the line i suppose. :)

Well I replied last time you asked that question, but here we go again:

While you're in the game, double tap the PS button and in the window that pops up, click on the current objective. It will bring up 3 videos that relate to the location you're in.
