Very surprised God of War 2 got a 2021 release date, which makes me wonder whether that's cross-gen too.

Yep, when they teased God of War 2 with nothing but a fancy title card and 2021 I chuckled to myself but the fact they’re actually doing cross gen stuff just makes me think this is going to be another one, which would be a shame. Would love to see them really push out the boat on that game.

Has anybody preordered from Game and not received an email confirmation?  I think the site was getting rammed last night as I couldn’t sign in and had to use a guest checkout.

To be fair to them, they're not the first ones to have games with this pricing. Obviously the new standard pricing for the gen.

Also, are the folk who are gloating about Game Pass intending not to buy any games at all?

The MS games (so far) aren’t selling for £70.

Fight that price man. Stop just accepting it as the new norm.

If you've seen making kratos and the fact it was crunch crunch crunch and nearly killed Cory barlog, I'm genuinely surprised they announced god of war 2 for next year with nothing but a teaser.

It will get delayed to 2022, Sony just wanted to tease you to open your wallet now.

I'm in the same position as you, I've got an order number but no email confirmation.

MS really ripped Sony a new one by sandwiching the PS5's between their consoles, with the S you will at least have the Gamepass option to hand, expecially in light of those awful eye watering digital prices. Maybe the Disc PS5 console isn't as dead as I first thought.

I’d be tempted by a super cheap redesigned smaller  ps4 Pro at this point over the ps5. It could compete with the Xbox series s on price at least.

This is exactly my take - maybe related to the news (rumours?) of Sony cutting their production estimates, it looks like Europe is taking one for the team.

This presentation looked for all the world like something Sony felt they had to do, rather than something they were planning to do, in response to the Xbox megaton last week. Trailers for games we’ve already seen, the canny inclusion of a Final Fantasy announcement by showing developer footage and a single slide with some prices on it.

They were absolutely right to do this presentation but it goes to show just how much Sony are on the back-foot going into this new generation. Even the launch date smells like a response to Microsoft.

I think the immediate pre-orders available at only some retailers smacks of pushing some stuff forward with retailers that were ready to go. Get those orders in before people have too much time to think of the cheaper series S might be something they want instead.  Still going to outsell the series x/s but it’s interesting

I haven't bought a single game since getting Game Pass Ultimate for my PC and Xbox - and I don't even have time to play all the stuff on there! Currently messing around with Flight Simulator, REVII and Hypnospace Outlaw (which is incredible).

The only game I can see myself buying is Cyberpunk. I would have probably bought the new CoD, but all the big FPS games have gone F2P for their popular modes anyway!

Keyboard warriors unite!

Where’s this been for the last month when all the third party publishers confirmed £70 games? Also Microsoft would definitely be charging that if they had any games to sell.

I'm not defending the rrp prices in any way but haven't we seen similar at the start of every console generation, where the console manufacturers put unrealistic rrp's on launch games but soon after games (at least physical) drop to more reasonable levels? So what I'm saying is this whole £70 rrp will never be a thing unless you lock yourself into the digital version, which frankly is an idiotic thing to do. I expect physical prices will remain/move to around the £50 mark which is just about reasonable to me. If I'm wrong then they can fuck off.

I'm keeping my pre-order on ShopTo for the full fat version but will wait to see what the prices on Demons are and how they move up to launch (physical version of course) and buy it from whoever is cheapest the week before launch.

Also fuck the digital version, anyone considering it have a good long hard think about it, seriously.

Yeah I’m definitely buying the digital version, I’ll just wait for sales. There’s constantly games on sale on the store for £10-£20 and there’s pretty much no games coming from the triple A boredom factories that I’ll care enough about to play on launch day. The odd Elden Ring or whatever that I have to have I’ll just save up £70 for at launch, like I did with £60 games at launch this gen. Luckily Red Dead really showed me how little I care about playing most big games at all, let alone on launch.

Demon Souls is also only a timed console exclusive and will be coming out on PC.

Hmm. At this point I might wait 12 months before jumping into ps5.  If demon souls at that point is still the only big next gen exclusive I might be waiting a little while longer.

I registered interest with Game when it first opened months ago. Last night / this morning I got an e-mail telling me pre-orders are open. Going onto the site now and there is nothing showing available for the consoles. Of course I pre-ordered last night because I knew this was going to happen but just hope its a system thing, as neither the app or the website is letting me login to check the status of my pre-order confirmation.

Did the announcement catch retailers off guard or have Game just fucked this up?

Pre-ordered one of each with Smyth's.

Now for a good hard think about whether I want plastic game cases and the ability to resell games or gorgeous minimalism and the ability to change games without getting off the sofa.

They definitely knocked at least £40 off the digital edition since last week. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the original pricing was going to be something like £449/£499.

Those game prices though, oof. £70 for Destruction AllStars is practically an advert for Games Pass on its own.

Very surprised God of War 2 got a 2021 release date, which makes me wonder whether that's cross-gen too.

I reckon any dlc they were making is going straight to this. Its too weird the gow map has two other levels, clearly dlc but never added

It’s a bit of sobering thought that by the time either of these next gen consoles is beginning to fire on both cylinders - that the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series XXX will be looming.

Also that a PC with 3080 is basically the Ps5 Pro and Next Xbox in one package - right now - with access to both sets of games...

But who I’m I kidding?!?  I’ve preordered one - it’s a next gen (kinda) PlayStation!

I'm holding fire, there customer service is generally pretty poor and I'm not sure i'd want to gamble with them on a new console with how many issues new consoles usually have ^_^
