The controls work grand for me being able to use the controllers to flip switches and grab the yoke etc.   but I am playing it via air link and oculus software rather than via virtual desktop so it may not pick up the oculus controllers correctly if you got that way  (just curious have you tried it via air link?)  as for changing view not sure mine puts me in the cockpit - you may have to set up a key in the settings if you can’t change it.

 

if you can’t use air link (I know some peeps find it unstable etc..) then take a look at flyinside on steam it’s very similar to flight sim but run perfectly via virtual desktop (I have both) and you can you the oculus controllers to fully interact with th cockpits and controls as well)

 Was hoping that wasn't going to be the answer since it costs money and was on sale until a day ago.

Are there any free alternatives on steam etc?

I'm guessing you could do something with Bigscreen - I'm pretty sure there's some way you can dip from the social aspect of it and have a private lobby, although it will still require an account and logging in.

Personally, I just use Virtual Desktop - it's worth the money just to have Wireless SteamVR games and get in on sales instead of being locked into the Oculus Store, but the additional room environments to view 2D stuff is a nice bonus. Something to consider when Facebook punt you some credit to spend on stuff in the store.

I have tried Airlink and it isn't as stable for me as Virtual Desktop, I'll give it another go though. I get the impression from things I've  read elsewhere that it should work fine.

It was on sale for Black Friday so I gave Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs a try.

 

I really like it.  There's a certain appeal to nailing a shot at a structures weak point & watching the resulting chain-reaction collapse.  Perhaps there are other games that do such a thing better, but for now can't get enough of watching these carefully-constructed creations topple, but without the bother of having to set them up beforehand or clean up the mess afterwards.

Bigscreen is just fine for this. You can have a private room, stream from network shares, choose from multiple settings. It'll do what you want.

I've decided to buy a second Quest with 256GB as my 64GB unit is being punished by Medal Of Honor. If I keep the old one is there a way that I can play games on both systems using my Facebook log-in or will Mark Zuckerberg come around my house and beat me up if my daughter doesn't use her own Facebook account?

Just looking at Quests today.. guessing the only difference between the 128GB and 256GB one is purely one of storage space? The games aren't that huge anyway so storage on 128GB not a huge problem if you only have 3-4 games on the go at once?

 

Also looking at potentially connecting it to a PC. The cable from Oculus/Quest is £90(!) is it worth getting one over a third party? It mentions that its fibre optic however guessing most third party ones are too.

 

Currently have a Rift S that is tethered to the PC and looking to go wire free.. so just looking at options. Hopefully a Quest will work as well on the PC as a Rift S so I can get rid off the S and have the best of both (wired and wireless) worlds....

I have the official kiwi cable and when I used it for pc games it was grand - but to be honest prefare to use a combination of virtual desktop (for steam games) and oculus air link for oculus native games - hard to go back to a wired connection after you go wireless (I find the quality on both streaming methods works well for me)

I think most of the 3rd party ones are just normal USB-C cables, as far as I know its only the oculus one that's fibre optic. I could be wrong though.

I might be biased though, I'm selling one in the trading folder :)

The new (non-DLC) course on Walkabout Mini Golf is lovely - Quixote Hills, I think it's called. I've got so much value out of the game as a whole that I didn't hesitate to buy the paid track, especially for the £2 and change that it cost. I bought the Elite Strap off @sbrandon111, so I'm looking forward to showing my Quest 2 some more love.

I souped up my Quest 2 with some bits from VR Cover and it made a world of difference to the comfort level. I usually get instant headaches when putting the base unit on, feels like it’s hitting some pressure points on my head, but with the foam pads front and back it’s really comfortable. The battery expansion strap really helps balance out the weight at the front as well.

I haven’t got my quest 2 but I’m a glasses wearer and didn’t actually realise this was an available solution. 

 

Yep just press on and pull off easily.

 

I didn't bother with the Blue Light add-on stuff and just got the basic £55 lenses and have found them excellent.
