Oculus Quest

Maybe a daft question. I got rid of my quest a few years back and was considering picking up a quest 2.

Will I still have access to all the games I bought for my quest? I used my Facebook account at the time. Will it all just be there? Is there a way I can check what games I have on my account?

Oh and final dumb question.

What’s the best alternative to the official cable if I want to hook up to my laptop now? It was hit and miss on the cables a few years back and I see the official one is still £90!

Or is it generally best to go fully wireless now and is virtual desktop still the best option?

I'd go with the latter. There's just no point to go wired unless you have a shocking WiFi setup.

I'd also say try Oculus' own free solution before picking up Virtual Desktop, just in case. I use Virtual Desktop, but I bought it before there was an official option.

Any half decent high speed USB C to USB C cable will work fine.

I have this one and it has no issues

If your home wireless setup is up to it however infinity superior to go wireless however. I needed a new router in the end as my old BT home hub 5 wasn’t up to it but  when we switched ISP the new Plusnet one was fine.

Best results if you can go Ethernet to the PC and play  in the same room as the router but the free Air Play software seems to work great now and playing Alyx cable free is a far better experience. You just need to download the Oculus client to your PC.

Well I’ve been delighted with the Quest 2 and getting reacquainted. I still get VR fatigue if I’m in it for more than an hour but playing in short bursts is great fun.

Loving Cubism. What a great little game. It’s like being on the Krypton Factor especially when you have a big guardian boundary and can walk about. How to blow your mind for £8.

Not used my quest 2 for a few months and fancied a go and my left controller is  knackered

Tried new batteries, uninstalling and reinstalling using the meta phone app

It has a flashing light and buzzes but never connects

Am I being an idiot?

I wondered if the discount would be on top of other discounts, so I ‘claimed’ the discount on Little Cities, but it doesn’t seem to stack. I don’t think that stops anyone else claiming it though, does it? They’ve done such a poor job of explaining how all this works.

I did the same and didn’t stack so also help the code will work for someone else. I did buy Resi 4 tho ans decent chunk off in the sale  and my word that works well in VR! I’m using the teleport movement option at the moment and getting quite good with it but assume its better in free movement mode but given I’m at the tail end of being pretty unwell at the moment I thought best not to risk it!!

Ignore the above, can't delete.

I bought a Quest 2 in the Black Friday "sale".

Im a couple of hours into Resi 4 and holy crap its amazing - I think looking at the phone and moving it around is one of the most impressive things ive experienced in game, only behind the typewriter - thats up there with the Mario 64 wow moment and its a bloody type writer for saving, As for the whole gun mechanics and reloading - stunning, it took me ages to work out why I couldn’t fire more than one shotgun shell - cock it…..

Honestly, Resi 4 is already an all timer for me but having bought loads of remakes over the years they haven’t captured the magic of the original because the play mechanics have not aged well IMO but this VR version solves that and being in the world with these play mechanics is just ridiculous

Since picking up a Chromecast with Google TV, I've discovered a fun (very stupid) wrinkle with Oculus casting. Which wasn't an issue with the old Chromecast.

Basically, the Oculus won't cast on 5GHz, only 2.4. So I've set up two separate wifi networks. I also need to switch back to 5GHz if I want smooth movie streaming in Skybox. A bit annoying, but the workaround is fine.

Having played it on PSVR and not having the Move controllers, I hadn’t tried Rez VR on the Quest as I assumed it would be aiming via head tracking as it was on PSVR but it’s not, you use the controllers to aim and it’s wondrous. The control method really feels absolutely perfect for the game. I just played the demo but looks like I’m buying Rez for the 4th time.

wonder if anyone can help...

I've got my son a gaming laptop for his Christmas which is pretty smart - and I'm trying to connect the Meta Quest 2 to it... I've downloaded the software and connected it to his latop with a USB C - but nothing is happening.  I'm assuming the USB cable I'm using isn't good enough (the charge cable for xbox controllers)?  I'm assuming an apple one will do the job?

I'd assume that will work fine too but 2m is pretty short for VR, no?

If you search amazon for "Quest link usb cable" you'll get a lot of options, from the ludicrously pricey official one down to a lot cheaper. Ones that have an angled plug will be a bit more ergonomic to use too.

I don't know if my cable is usb 3 - but the headset is saying it's 2 and it won't stream the desktop - just getting a black screen when I select 'desktop' from the oculus menu (althouhg the mouse cursor is changing appropriately when I move it over buttons and icons on the desktop) - which I assume means it's not a 3.
