Max IPD of 68mm?

Is this right?
The previous Quest was ideal for me as I have an IPD of 71mm.
Balls. But of a backward step.

Same here, though my IPD is slightly smaller. Only reason I bought a Quest instead of a Rift S.

I'm tempted, but... no.

If Facebook let me continue to use my Oculus account in peace I could deal with it, but all this forced integration is a clear sign that I should get out now. I wish them luck in helping to push VR forward.

I would have been fine with using a facebook account....I don't have facebook so I would have just made a dummy one.

But no

Fuck facebook

Confirmation of Rez Infinite

Wait...what!!!!

I turned off after the quest 2 reveal and missed any game stuff.

Also, I pre-ordered on the Oculus site via PayPal. Does anyone know when they take funds?

Oh and that strap looks absolute dog shit. That's why they are charging £100 for a deluxe one. If I don't get on with it I'm hoping I can a third party one for cheaper. Or just buy a halo strap.

I've been doing a VR project for the last few months and played around with almost every headset in the process. I'll say this, Facebook login bollocks notwithstanding, Oculus is miles ahead of Vive in terms of usability and the Quest is an amazing bit of kit. Just ordered a Quest 2 for myself and got the company I'm working for to order up as many as they can get their hands on. I should be on some sort of commission from Oculus.

Does the new quest 2 address the comfort issues with the first? The Rift S is far better for comfort when compared to the original Quest.

Facebook login doesn't bother me ... But that's only because I don't use Facebook at all. Totally understand that it would put a lot of people off.

Ended up buying the official link cable and the elite headstrap (but not the battery pack one).

Wee bit miffed that there wasn't an audio deluxe strap but I'll have a go with my regular phone headphones until we see what 3rd party stuff comes out.

Link cable doesn’t work with battery head strap, but will with elite head strap.

What's to stop a fresh account with no friends/pics being flagged as a "fake" account if you don't use facebook?

I ended up going for the regular elite head strap.

Since posting the above, I watched the tested review and they confirmed that the link cable connects to the battery pack and is passed through so you could use the battery pack and link at the same time.

A fresh account might have issues yes but I setup a Facebook account a year or so ago to try out the pc client ... Facebook Spaces it was called.  I uploaded a couple of photos to try out the 360 degree photo/video functionality and added a couple of friends that are on Facebook.  Only created the account to have a look at Facebook Spaces (it was pretty good, a nice way to view my gear 360 photo & video content)

I've never used my Facebook account since except of course any indirect login with Oculus as it's been linked to my Oculus account.

My Facebook account is a real account, it is "me".  I just don't use the Facebook app/site at all, never post etc.

Fair enough. Just seems like quite a bit of work for someone who doesn;t have a facebook account to have to worry and work about whether a fresh account will be flagged. I don't want to create a convincing enough social media page with the risk of having my oculus account locked. Really regret not buying everything on steamvr where possible.

Yeah, totally agree, it's a bit shit locking it into Facebook so deeply.  Worried it could hamper the success of what appears to be a nice headset.

I'm going to stick with this iteration of Oculus and see how it goes but guessing my next headset in 3 years or so might be a dedicated PCVR headset as I think Facebook are moving away from top end features (no mention of eye tracking or foveated rendering at connect etc).  I'll probably need to prioritise SteamVR wherever possible in advance of the switch over.

But at 299 it's worth a trial to bide me over till the proper next gen headsets are out

That’s strange as underneath the battery pack image on the oculus site it said ‘link cable doesn’t work with it’. I suppose you could just unplug the battery connector and insert the link cable as you wouldn’t be playing link games untethered - charging wouldn’t be an issue.

Surprisingly harsh review from Ars Technica here. Facebook integration aside, it looks like corners have been cut in a number of places to hit that price point.

This is the only negative review I ha e seen.

Other VR reviewers have been full of praise. Except for the strap. That's shite.

This is a blatant hit job review. The writer came in with an agenda and stuck to it, all the other reviews I’ve seen from the big sites have been positive.

VR pundits are notoriously over enthusiastic I find. So the problems raised by the AT review are worth keeping an eye on: heavier controllers with poorer tracking, shorter battery life and a rubbish default strap are concerns. The latter two are addressed by accessories, but then the low price starts to become less attractive.

I suspect that the core hardware - resolution and processor - will be enough to make it worthwhile, but I'm getting a whiff of interim hardware revision in 6 months.
