Yeah tried Rez at 2560. Looks nice, performs like absolute arse. The cursor gets stuttery as do the enemies. Now, that happens a little at the defualt res anyway, but it's minor. I tried 2048 and it still looked great, but the performance was still not good enough. So the default res is the way to go with Res at least.

Here's a funny thing, if you select "Default" for the default texture size in Sidequest, it looks appalling - I think it's defaulting to the default Quest 1 resolution, not Quest 2.

I tested Skyrim via the link - serious performance issues, not sure what's going on there because it's flawless on my Rift S. Half-Life Alyx is really good though, rock solid 72fps, more FOV up and down (I can see a lot more of the gas mask when I put it on) and less screen door. Going back to the Rift S ... the supersamples res is better and the headset itself is more comfortable, but I notice that screendoor effect now! Gonna try Assetto Corsa Competizione via the link now...

All this stuff will be a lot better once Oculus Link comes out of beta and is updated for Quest 2. The current bitrate limit is based on the video decoding strength of the Quest 1 which isn't great.

I can’t find one anywhere :(

I managed to find an Elite head strap today.  I happened to be looking on the Argos app and I’d thought if check stocks in my local, seems there is a tickle of them coming in.  Picked it up a little while ago.

I’ve still not unboxed my Oculus Quest 2 headset but will probably try this and the Elite headset this weekend.  I’m keen to see how wireless works with the Pc VR titles.

Good to know, I really hope the link coming out of beta solves the performance issues. Assetto Corsa was an absolute mess as well. I had Oculus tray tool showing performance - Constantly dropping to 32fps (ASW kicking in) and the performance headroom graphs looked like they were having a fit - completely unplayable. In the Rift S? Almost solid 80fps (the odd dip to 77 here and there) and 40% headroom - WTF? Skyrim is the same, an absolute horror show via the link, perfect on the Rift S.

It's interesting that Half-Life Alyx is pretty much flawless via the link though, to the point where I may I just use that to play it instead of the Rift S, especially now that...

THANK YOU! Picking mine up tomorrow. :D

Has anyone's batteries run out on the Q2 controllers yet? They seem to go on forever. Not even lost a pip after about 7 hours play.

Tried Echo VR last night. Amazing sense of presence, floating in space and Iron-Man boosting around the place. Gonna take some time to do everything intuitively though. Can't believe it's free.

I played some Echo VR last night, having not touched it for months and only briefly playing it before. It's really good, although I was in one game with a few people who were taking it waaaaaay too seriously!

newbie Quest owners should learn about cross-buy with the Oculus Rift. It's a bit more complicated than it should be - some titles are cross-buy (Robo Recall for example) and some are not (e.g. Virtual Desktop, Moss). The reason you need to know this is that the Rift version is often cheaper than the Quest one, so in those cases if it is cross-buy you'd want to buy that one.

So right now there is a not-particularly-exciting sale on Rift, the Gravity Sketch thing looks pretty cool and is a bigger discount than most things on Oculus get: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/cross-buy-titles-on-sale-for-the-oculus-quest-via-rift-store-sale-eg-gravity-sketch-for-ps699-instead-of-ps2299-at-oculus-3566528

Quest/virtual desktop supreme low latency guide (low-viewcount video, but very good accurate advice)

Followed that - Half Life Alyx now works great with zero weird animation lag. Skyrim was fucking impressive too.  So cheers for that. However, for me the games still look crisper in the Rift S, especially Skyrim where you can see the compression on buildings in the middle distance - however, I found Sliced encoding helped with that ... maybe.

I think I have an issue with the Quest 2 itself though. I'm getting eye strain, something that I don't get with the Rift S. My IPD is 66.5, so the nearest of the three settings is 68 (widest), but without the ability to move the lenses further away from my eyes (again, the Rift S has that) I still struggle to find the sweet spot.

Also, even with the elite strap, this thing still feels front heavy.  Still, via virtual desktop this kit is fucking impressive. I'm yet to try Elite Dangerous with it, but its better blacks (than the Rift S) should do it good.

I put mine on tonight and realised whilst browsing the store that the walking dead must be cross buy, as I had it on the PC and it came up as free on the quest! Result!

Only played the first chapter on the PC before I sold my gaming laptop so looking forward to playing some more.

Do it. I'm having tons of fun with mine.

Question for anyone with experience putting custom tracks into Beat Saber: when I use SyncSaber to grab songs I've bookmarked on BeastSaber, about half just won't work. But sometimes work later. Is this a trial-and-error thing, or so some songs never work?

Are you using the glasses spacer? That will move the lenses out slightly. Also there's a way of setting the lenses in between each IPD setting, so maybe if you try the 2.5 setting it would work better

There's an alarming number of reports of the elite strap just snapping.

I thought when I first opened it "this is cheap plastic and could snap easily" and that seems to be the case.

Cheers for that, his IPD (66.4) is almost the same as mine (66.5), so I'll try that later. :D

I saw this too. I'm kind of tempted to wrap those weaker looking parts in electrical tape now and just get it other with.

In other news, still waiting for my VR Optician lenses to turn up. Getting quite annoyed with my glasses fogging up, causing distortion as I look around, hurting the bridge of my nose etc.

If they're as good as the ones I got for my Rift S, you're in for a treat. I was getting quite frustrated with the whole thing beforehand, but the lenses solved pretty much everything. The lenses still fog up a bit if you get a sweat on, but it's nothing like as bad as before.

I've ordered a Quest 2 for my partner for Christmas, which has just turned up. I've ordered a strap for her as well, but that won't show for a couple of weeks. Is there anything else that I should be buying for it? Is the case worth having at 50 quid?

First two games of population one and two wins in a row - three player squads so if any one is up for a game some time add me same as my forum name here

update....

played a few games last night and really enjoying it.  Its fast and fun.

wifi streaming via virtual desktop works perfectly  so can play the better graphical rift version on the quest (while using the quest version when out and about with the headset).

communication is essential as you are working in a squad of three, and rounds are fast as there is little down time between  the ring moving.   which is great as it keeps the flow of the game moving as well - most rounds are about 10 mins long so great for "quick" games.

hopefully they implement single player rounds as well (it was in the pre quest early testing).   My only niggle and its something that we mentioned in the beta testing is that they have mapped the map button to the left trigger which takes a while to get used to as in not pressing  the trigger - but once used to it its grand :)

Right, time to test the refund system. Great tech demo, but Richie’s Plank Experience is too much for me.

It’s so weird how RPE makes you feel like you’re actually that high up. It took me so long to dare to walk off the plank that first time.

Going to buy Population One later since it’s getting so many good write-ups from people playing it.

So -console -vconsole +vr_fidelity_level_auto 0 +vr_fidelity_level 8 in the launch options for HL:Alyx makes it look way sharper and clearer. Game looks legit now.

Change the fidelity level from 8 depending on your GPU, most recommend 3 but my 2080ti is sound with 8.

I tried this (jumping straight to 8) and found it a bit stuttery, tracking was fine but the game itself seemed to stutter a little. I’m on a now-lowly 1080ti though.

Something that bugs me is the endless upscaling and downscaling of stuff. Can’t I just run the game, the video stream, and the headset itself at the native resolution for each eye? There seems to be three or four levels of up or downscaling going on between steamVR, virtual desktop and the quest itself. Any guides or tips for navigating that mess?

My prescription lenses shipped today. Can’t wait! The fogging up is killlllllling me.
