Has anyone got Doom on it yet?

Yes, there was a quick port of Doom.

agree, for games on Dpad & buttons it looks too small and too thin to grip then the second the crank comes into play you are literally twisting the device and moving it in your hands, which must make it harder to focus on the screen as its moving

Here's a video of me cranking to turn in my game Daily Driver.

My iPhone is shooting off the edge of my desk, so apologies for the view of my messy office floor.

Yes, albeit obviously in very limited form:

Nic later showed an updated version where the crank was mapped so that he could use it to fire the chaingun, but I can't find that clip.

The thing that worried me the most about the Eurogamer piece was the creakiness they mentioned when using it, sounded like it had a bit of play to the case and made the build quality sound bad. Does yours do that at all?

Mine does not. Did any other outlets mention this?

There'll be ifixit teardown published tomorrow, you'll see there isn't much room inside at all. It's packed tight.

To continue the comparison to GBA SP: Playdate is

  • half the thickness (~9mm vs ~24mm)
  • half the weight (~85g vs ~165g)

Note: mine is a pre-production unit so it does vary to the final thing in terms of some minor fit and finish.

It's the reply to the tweet you quoted.

This might be the first of the recent spate of tech preorder bollocks I can sit back and not stress about:

3080. Nightmare.

3070. Nightmare.

PS5. Nightmare.

Series X. Nightmare.

Steam Deck. Nightmare.

PlayDate. Don’t care.

Good luck to everyone who does care of course.

Meanwhile, I had no interest in preordering any of the above (though I ultimately got a PS5 and Series X after launch), but have set an alarm to try and ensure I get a Playdate within its first shipment ^_^
