That invisible enemy is my number one most hated thing....I didn't get the torch, which probably would have helped :)

I'm now stuck on three separate bosses in the game and with not much else to explore, so guess I'm pretty much at the end.

I have

Spoiler

Melenia

Maliketh

Dragonlord

I know I can do it it's just getting everything together for one run. Annoyingly on the second boss I've listed I got one hit away when he suddenly did a move that seemed to kill me in one hit. Bah!

About the run up to that second boss:

How did you deal with the Draconic Tree Sentinel, especially without Torrent? I'm thinking I might try Rotten Breath on him, as that absolutely ruined the dragon that was blocking the way just before the Grace.

Oh I don't fight that thing, I run past it.

I've been going through NG+ to get to the Haligtree so I could dress up Melania to fight Melania, and I finally did it!

Seemed roughly the same difficulty as in NG at this point (I had a much better weapon this time, but no shield). Didn't feel particularly overlevelled as I skipped a whole lot and just made a beeline for her after a certain point.

Anyway, was fun! Video below for anyone who's interested :). I got lucky with this go due to no Waterfowl in phase 2. There is a close up no shield dodge now, but you have to recognise the move SO early and then execute it perfectly and I gave up trying to be honest. You can just dodge roll through it and tank damage anyway, so it's not certain death. She caught me off guard with an attack at a strange angle at one point, but other than that it's pretty clean!

I'd been sitting on around 15 spirit summons I simply couldn't use. Why? Because I couldn't find the ball bearing for level 1-4 graveworts and had already used my existing ones. I finally found it the other day so now I have to go on a massive spending spree whilst I level them all up and try them out!

In terms of progress I dipped in last night to try the new area I'd unlocked:

Spoiler

Mogwhyn palace. I had an absolute nightmare in the blood swamp against the invaders and the most annoying enemy in the game, the blood birds. Absolutely insane, massive HP, huge damage and reach and never stop attacking. I learned to roll under the legs but you run out of stamina fast. To make matters worse I wasn't able to mount up when the invaders kept coming. The blood bee swarm attack is evil! Eventually I killed all the invaders and had to concede defeat against the birds, and just ran around on Torrent picking up all the loot before vowing never to return!

Up the zombie infested hill (pretty impressed at the number of zombies here) I went into the dark caves and struggled a bit against the blood nobles who keep popping up. Thankfully thanks to a dungeon boss I'd spent hours fighting I know the attack patterns quite well, but it was still quite rough. At the top of the caves I spotted an invasion summon sign and went in to invade good old Varre, who wasn't best pleased with me. I figured seeing as how I'm already heading to kill his master, that time is up for sneering Varre, who ended up being well easy, much easier than the invaders below. Poor old Varre.

Once at the boss I had a bunch of attempts, and because I killed Mogh in the sewers not too long ago, I was making decent progress and could get him almost to half health. As usual my main problem is DPS and the fight takes forever, even with my max upgraded Tree Spear. I will either have to tackle this endurance challenge or go off and level up a bit. I tried the Godskin duo again and I have the same issue. Unfortunately I've rinsed most of the game now so getting runes through exploration is pretty much done, and I doubt my rune consumables will provide many levels when I need 96K to level up! So I will either have to get boss grinding, rune farming or respec.

There's also a torch you can buy from one of the vendors that makes invisible enemies visible.

Still finding new ash summon abilities. The Skeleton Militia guys have the same ability to rise back from the dead as long as they don't take a hit while they are down as the enemy skeletons so they can last for ages. Pretty useful.

I like the group that has shields and just annoys whatever is close by. They’re great for distraction so you can just do damage.

Im going to get the platinum tonight, in the space of 2 hours last night I ran all the way to Altus cause I have no resting sites , killing margit on the way and godrick. I killed radhan and then got to the deep root place.

I just have to do a lot of the Ranni quest line to get an item to activate the boss I need.

Then I guess it’s straight on to demons souls.

Looking at the whole game, my brain never quite adapted to the sheer speed that you progress through most of the game.

You didn’t need to run through it so quickly. I’m on around 110hrs and am just beginning to explore the Altus Plateau. I’ve been savouring every area and exploring every nook and cranny, because I’m loving it so much. Speeding through it is something of your own making.

Lots of lightning resistance. Rotten Breath to start with followed by a few Serpent Arrows with the Serpent Bow and lots of running away :)

I didn't exactly sprint through the game. I explored each area a lot, and think I did pretty much every side dungeon and optional area. I feel like progress was quick because most of the time I felt like I was overlevelled for the area I was in. Plus, things like the spirit summons made the bosses much easier than in previous games.

Not really (unless there's an item description that mentions it). It could be it's the same location except in a parallel/alternative reality but *end-game spoilers*

the fact that is is affected by your actions in 'your' reality suggests otherwise

or it could be a dream like construct (maybe you never actually leave the points of grace) which is based on the 'real' hold in the capital. Or maybe Space-Wimpy-Homes just built a bunch of them  . It might be located out in the lands beyond the fog where the Tarnished were roaming before they come back to the lands between.

It is the third time they've used that trick though, isn't it? Bloodborne and DS3 both have you stumbling across the "real", connected version of a disconnected hub zone.

I have t touched this in 6-8 weeks and went back to it today. Took down a Minor Erdtree boss and the dragon Aghael chump.

I think it’s the  first time I’ve not felt terrified of the game.

I genuinely find it exhausting to play and can just about manage an hour per session.

Went back for Mohg and shot him with my pew-pews ^_^ https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1311673750

Also, see if you can spot the schoolboy error I make with my items.

Answer:

Spoiler

I begin with seven crimson tear flasks on my hotbar, but you never see me select my cerulean tear flasks, because I forgot to put them on my hotbar before going in.

Been mainlining NG+ to try to get the other two endings, basically just been sprinting around and unlocking SoGs and taking down story bosses. Insultingly easy so far (just reached the SoG next to Fire Giant) but suspect things may change soon.

Sorry if this has already been posted and I've not even played this yet.  4 player co-op mod on PC.  Sound like it gets rid of some annoying restrictions of the vanilla experience.  Looks awesome.

Well it certainly didn't start with Fire Giant, knocked that mook out second attempt, as opposed to the near twenty-second go first time round.

Finally finished the game and polished off the last remaining trophy bosses. I thought Malenia might have been too much, but when she finally fell it was over very quickly.

I've got two endings and the legendary weapons trophy left for platinum, but can't get those without another play through, and it's all a bit too much to go through again just yet. One for the future, perhaps.

What a game though. I have some criticisms, but it's a game changer in terms of fantasy open-world adventures. The rest of the genre (even BotW2) has some catching up to do.

Despite having Moonveil+10 and a decent summon, Malenia was grinding me into paste repeatedly. The flurry attack was bad enough but I also caught her regaining energy without attacking me or my summon. I wasn't sure if it was a cheat or a bug but either way, I walked away from ER for a week. Came back, went grinding and levelled up Arcane, then got Rivers of Blood so I could even the odds and fight cheese with cheese.

And now I have that spammy cheater's rune in my inventory, no regrets.

Edit: Corrected on this below!

I don’t think her health is going up there (or at least not because she’s healing), I think it’s a side effect of Tiche’s black blade effect wearing off. You can see the black shading in Malenia’s health bar disappear at the same time her health appears to increase.

You're right! Restoring that health is a bit weird when it wears off. Either way, she's dead and I'm happy.

So I’ve reached two bosses

Spoiler

Cover art lady of Miquette and Beastly Chaplin Guy.

time to go old school Dark Souls I think.

I think the use of ashes actually messes you up as they add too much randomness. Gonna spend an hour tonight without them - at least for the start.

I’m now 50 hours into this. It’s somehow simultaneously one of the greatest games ever made but also one of the weakest From games.

It’s too fucking nice to you, to be blunt. The summons, no horrible runs from save point to boss, virtually limitless warping all over the shop.

It hit home for me last night when I fought my first Godskin, for which you’re not allowed to summon ashes, and realised that this was the first enemy in the entire game that I hated and called a cunt repeatedly and I loved it.

First time in the game that i died several times with just one blow left on the enemy.

First time I definitely memorised every attack the fat twat had in his arsenal and reached that wonderful moment with a From boss when you know you can and will beat them, even if takes a few more goes.

It’s not like the bosses have been bad up to this point, but there’s been no real suffering, which means no manic high at beating anything. And there are definitely far too many graces.

Still a masterpiece, obviously. And makes me look forward to the back end of the game, which I know some people have been cooler on because it sounds like a bit of a deluge of bastard hard bosses, but that would be something I’d relish at this point.

@Flanders If you're feeling like this I'd recommend trying to drop the ashes summons for a few bosses and see how it goes. I think there are a lot of great bosses with fun movesets & challenges, but fighting them 2v1 didn't really feel very satisfying to me as I found I could just approach them all in the same very aggressive way, hit them from behind a lot and then back off to heal while my summon took aggro if necessary. You don't really need to learn movesets much at all (and it actively makes it harder to do so, because the bosses become less predictable) like this, which yeah, didn't feel quite right, to me.
