Level 26 now and still can’t kill Margit.

I had such a frustrating session yesterday lol.

First I unlocked that area right at the start of the game, before you head up the elevator. Lost count of how many times I died, between

Spoiler

Getting poisoned, killed by the chariot, incinerated and completely annihilated by the boss at the end

So I gave up and headed to the basement in the ruined village next to the dragon. Aye great

Spoiler

Sucked through a chest into a Crystal mine with spitting centipedes.

I eventually found the exit and ended up in a village with the Burger King mascot trying to skewer me!

Back to the safer areas closer to home, I met the

Spoiler

Skeleton in the row boat

And beat him first time, so that cheered me up a bit, ending my session with a victory 😆

What’s the reward for the three wise animals? I forgot about that completely

I don't know the award but started doing this last night. Found the first (right in front of you) but wondering if the final two are in that immediate area, the region or whole game world. I don't particularly want to spend ages looking in the area if they aren't there when there's so much to do!

I didn't bother re-visting the spider bridge, I'm not strong enough to deal with them and prefer not to do kamikaze runs. I assume its a dead end because the boss at the bottom of the dungeon is the main objective. Also just in case you didn't get it, don't forget to drop down from the spider bridge, take the lift up and grab the item on the ledge that the halberd ghost is guarding. I dunno what it is because I died before I could get to it!

Thanks, yeah, I dodged rolled off the bridge in fright, and was amazed to find I’d survived! Fought the chap you mentioned and got both items (one of which is the talisman I told @Brokerabout) - didn’t want to keep fighting those bastards if it’s just the items down there, although it was fun trying to drag them back into the flames (which nearly worked!)

I did the castle at the weeping peninsula but noped out once I got to the boss on the wee island. Tried a summons but still got twatted.

I’ve worked my way to the last boss in dark souls but I’m really struggling with this one.

I killed him last night, posted a video of it. What weapon and stats do you have? I used a +10 Longsword plus the spirit noblemen (I think) and just went at him two handed. He went down very quickly when mobbed like that.

Here’s the video again if it helps:

I will spoiler their locations, but bear in mind there are more than one of these puzzles, so I’m talking about the likely first one you found:

Spoiler

One spawns right behind you when you read the thing

Spoiler

The second is on the left of the steps into the building, hiding in a bush

Spoiler

The third is to the right of the building, invisible in a pool of water - look for the splashes

I managed to smash him last night on, at a guess, my 40th attempt. Level 23 sorcerer meteorite staff. I died on the last blow but it seems that it still registered the kill and I’m now stepping into Stormveil.

Spoiler

I quit when I got locked in a dark room and butchered!

Magrit it a bastard though because of the seeming randomness of the attacks.

As ever though once you learn em and time your rolls right then it’s good. I swear the wind ups on his attacks seemed to vary at times but that’s probably just me being paranoid!

There is someone in the castle who steals some runes every time you drop them.

The rune loss happened to me too and I have a very strong suspicion who the thief is.

I may not spare him when I next find him…

Well I just finished a three night stretch of getting to play this until I fell asleep - won't get time to do that again for a while, due to having to get up early for work, and family stuff in the evenings/weekend.

Got so much done and yet nothing really done at the same time - I have a bow finally, and my dude is swinging a +5 greatsword and finally has a few pieces of armour that are more sturdy than the starting Warrior gear (and can wear them without fat rolling).

I really feel like From want us to concentrate on character development in this game, rather than "getting far" - like I said before I've only found one part of the game that I'm locked out of by what I assume is a progress-related "key" (i.e an object I need to find in order to progress) - rather than because my guy is too weak to handle the challenge (like a boss fight). Although I have no idea if I could, it feels like a game where one could, if they wanted to, simply grind to a high level in the starting area and then ride right to the final boss and kill it, bypassing most of the game.

Anyway, here's what I've done in the last few days, spoilered for anyone who hasn't got out of the early game areas yet:

Spoiler

Killed Grafter Godrick

Tried to explore a bit more of Stormveil after being told I've missed a load of cool stuff - found another massive courtyard area with loads of enemies to kill. However, having originally chosen to enter via the side entrance, I'm now unable to enter the main gate - is it permanently locked now? The NPC who gave me the choice is gone.

Explored from top to bottom of the lakes area (without finding what I actually need to progress the storyline, so far). So many great locations though. Found bosses right at the top (in the manor) and right at the bottom (village) that I'm unable to defeat despite having a few cracks at them.

Still can't find the tower, or whatever, that I gather from the description of the rune I got when I killed Godrick, I need to find , in order to charge the rune? Or something like that? The description says it is behind Stormveil castle (which could mean anywhere in the lakes I guess!) Is this another hint pointing me towards the Academy as my next main-mission destination, or something else?

There's an island/ peninsula (not sure which) directly west of Stormveil, which has a bunch of buildings on it (although none particularly tower-like) which appears prominently in view in a few places, which I take as a hint I'm supposed to go there - has anyone managed to get onto it, though? Haven't found a path there so far. It looks cut off from the mainland. Is it another one that needs to be approached via an underground passage (Like the island with the Dragon Church on it)?

At last, after hitting every wall with a stupid "liar ahead" message in front of it, I found a Dark Souls-style fake wall! Up north of the lakes area, before you get to the manor. Has anyone else found others or is this pretty much the only one?

Finally late last night, went back to take a look at the dragon in the swamp right by the starting area, even though I don't think he's the one that has the key I need to progress (as I was told is the next thing I need to do). Opened the chest that's been mentioned a few times in this thread and finally found the teleporter trap I've been reading about. Thankfully as I guess I found it at a slightly later stage than most, I'm not completely underpowered for the area and managed to survive and explore a fair bit. Feels like an end-game area to me! Also some great staged battles between groups of mobs where I just got to sit back and soak up the XP as they went to work on each other! Grabbed enough for a couple of levels (I'm 32 now) and then went to bed.

This is the first time for something like five years (possibly since Dark Souls 3) that I've immersed myself in a new game like this. Staying up late after everyone's gone to bed just to explore and discover a little bit more of the world. Due to a combination of work, family, and there just not being any games that made me want to do it! Feels good to be back.

I’ve just found 3 wise animals so I’ll finish exploring this area first.

Wait long enough and an NPC rescuer will come help!!

It’s important to note that Margin’s attacks aren’t random.

Margit is basically a tutorial boss: he’s the games way of showing you how to fight big enemies and bosses. Be patient, wait for attacks, dodge roll at the last second, don’t panic roll. His attacks are very clearly telegraphed - if you pay attention to his animations, you can tell exactly what attack he is going to do and, once you get the timing down, he won’t hit you as much, if at all. Top tip: rolling towards is always better than rolling away, once you have the timing. You’ll be invincible for the hit, and be close enough to hit back and dodge follow up attacks, instead of far away and in prime range for a second and third smack.

Like I said: view Margit as a lesson, a tutorial on boss fighting etiquette and technique. He’s not even classed as a “main” boss, he’s a mini boss, he’s just the first big one you encounter.

He also has a long enough cool-down after attacks to allow an easy couple of hits. There are also few of the long range attacks that always hurt me, bar the dodgeable thrown daggers, so it’s easy enough to maintain enough distance to stay relatively safe when needing a respite.

Poison ash and a +5 broadsword made him very manageable. Poison ash really is my favourite thing.

I really enjoyed the fight but may also have been over levelled at 30 something.

Yep totally agree.

I did a few hours of helping out on Margit last night with a very low success rate. The host almost always panics when the fight is going well, either rolling off the bridge, getting cocky or just getting too excited and making silly mistakes. The stress and pressure of that fight really gets to people but you have got to learn from it and not try to brute force it.

@Hexx and @Broker, a pal did Radahn last night:

Spoiler

Supposedly cold absolutely wrecks him. My friend put the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash on which gave his regular attacks cold buildup, but I suppose you could use a grease/resin instead.

And Broker, while we're here, that Tree Sentinel:

Spoiler

I assume you mean the Draconic one, outside the capital? Stay on horseback, don't lock on and just stick to the horse's butt as much as possible, making sure you've always got enough stamina to dash away if you need to. I did it third time somehow. I think if you stay close to him he doesn't do the one-shot lightning attack.

If your horse dies, as mine did when the boss was on about 20%, don't resummon, just try and finish the fight on foot. I don't recommend trying to co-op it because you need the horse, and from my brief attempt to do it, it seems it's a popular invasion spot.

Quick question - rested round the back(?) of the castle last night and was sent to the round table. I was told to rest to return there but the option isn't there - how do I go back there?

Fast travel to it like anywhere else - the grace point is bottom left of the map.

Hmmm interesting, I noticed this as well, thought it was a new thing, a sight reduction in runs each time you get them back. I hope it is a thief, if it is, they are gonna pay.

A little bit of both. What’s difficult to predict is whether or not he’s finished a particular string of attacks and given you an opportunity. Sometimes he’ll do a few moves and then nothing; sometimes the same moves will be part of a longer string.

It would be pretty great if, when we do find the scamp, we can shake him down for the stolen runes.
