Ive nothing of note to add to the thread, I'm not reading it for fear of spoilers and I don't have an interesting war story to contribute. Just wanted to say that Stormveil Castle could literally be a game all of its own. It's a masterpiece and deserves to sit alongside any area of any of the entire Souls/Sekiro/Bloodborne lineage. It's layer after layer after layer of madness. This is going into videogaming legend.

Im at the second legacy dungeon and can say the exact same.

Incredible work by FROM.

its ok, but this does feel like hyperbole: the initial starting area of demon souls is no less complicated, and tells more story.

Spoiler

And I have, entirely naturally, dropped right down to the bottom of the castle to fight the secondary boss there: I’ve not just critical pathed to Godrick.

As a whole package, however!

The first phase is actually really quick and easy -

  Reveal hidden contents

you only need to attack the singing/golden Creepy vampire girls - ignore all the others. Each gold one you kill damaged the shield on Rennala. Do that until she falls, hit her, run away when she starts to glow, repeat. Should take less than a minute and you shouldn’t really get hit, except maybe from the odd stray book.

Yeah it's more just that the run back to the boss is the worst in the game so far and then it's like another minute or two to do the first phase standing on your head so in total it's about 4-5 minutes of boredom every time I want to have a crack at the second phase only to die as soon as I get hit once. I'm just gonna level up a bit til I at least survive one hit.

I have sorted out the great rune stuff though and the effect you get off Godrick's rune is pretty substantial. Well worth the effort.

The fight to activate the great runes was pretty comical. Felt like I was watching Human Fall Flat or something

Anyone else feel a *touch* guilty about mercilessly slaughtering the primitive baboon people? Especially when they cower once you've killed their queen...

Yes. Something about getting string for the trouble really adds to the 'are we the baddies?' vibes.

Was feeling a bit tired tonight so instead of taking my main character any further in the Lakes (too intense, real exploring!!) I ended up just pottering about on my bleed build, farming the giants near stormveil while leaving my martyr summon on, got loads of runes and helped a ton of people clear Margit, it's been great!

I'm using twinblade for standard damage, with a copy of the blood slash art, so it's scaling with my Arc.  Main dagger also got blood slash, blood Reduvia for some badassery. I'm also rocking dual flails when I find enemies that need strike damage (i.e. mines!)

It's taking a while to get summoned at Stormveil tonight, I wonder if I've overlevelled for most players here now?  I'm already lvl 30!!  (same as my main, in about 1/4 the time lol)

Also, checked my inventory and I haven’t found an item to boost Equip Load.p so far.

I found a talisman that increases equip load by a few points. Can't remember where I got it, possibly an NPC reward. Seeing as I had it before doing Weeping Penisula, I must have found it in Limgrave/Stormveil

Ooo learned something tonight - light bows (like short bow the bandit starts with) can be fired while riding horse at speed, whereas long bow makes you slow down to fire.  A bit of a shame as I've just switch over to a long bow.  Looks like I'll hold onto my short bow for a while longer, then!  Feels a bit Princess Mononoke, zipping around shooting bats with my shortbow!

Oh my word so early game spoilers.

Spoiler

Defeated the Dragon: Yay!

Lets go check that charred town out - ooooh a treasure in the cellar, I've got a lot of runes but the worst it can be is a Mimick, right? Right?

:(

Could you put Mighty shot on it? I guess you could?

I have a feeling we're all still scratching at the surface of this game, it's already clearly a masterpiece. The secrets yet to find, the road yet to travel.

I've rinsed Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula, dipped my toes into Caelid (some very nice gear there thank you very much), stormed Stormveil Castle and currently banging my head against the next legacy dungeon boss.

I have been playing computer games for a very, very long time and this really is as good as it gets.

Was fighting that magic witch lady (2nd main boss) and thought "That was a piece of piss"

Then the second phase started. I had fuck all flasks left cause getting to her was a nightmare. Turned it off after I got beat.

That's my issue with this game. I'm very slowly progressing. I never feel like I want to play more than two hours. It's just such a slog at times. I like the game but it's just not fun to me at times and that's what I care about the most. Although I did learn tonight that I've been using a sword not suited to my build for over 30 hours. So that's progress. I think.

I’ve not been to where you’re at but isn’t there a grace point just before the boss? That seems to be the usual pattern for me so far. I thought I had done the 2nd main boss but it was a bloke.

Started this tonight, never played a game like this before other than bloodborne for about 20 minutes

Picked the mature hairy male wretch as my starting character (modelled on me)

2 hours in and i’m getting in to it, avoiding larger enemies where I can as I keep getting battered, ventured into a cave earlier but retreated immediately

I’ve read that I missed the tutorial completely at the start too, have I set myself up for a harder game by picking the wretch?

I am going to dabble in some jolly co-op tonight, helping people do the bosses in the early areas. But I'm a bit confused on how it all works now. Can I set myself to be summoned for specific areas? I know I can do the traditional leave a message affair, but not really sure how all the summoning pool stuff works.

Also if anyone wants help in Limgrave/Stormveil or Weeping Peninsula, chuck me a password or however it works and I'll see if I can jump in.

I guess you didn’t find the shortcut near her, then

Yeah re:Spacehost. As I was riding around last night I was reminded a lot of Shadow of the Colussus. We know Miyakazi was inspired a lot by Ico, and this game is really a homage to those landscapes, especially along the stormy grey-cliffed coastlines in the south. It also captures that scale well (although Shadow is still probably the king of making you feel truly tiny in the environment). Crucially though in this game there's tons to do as you gallop around, it doesn't feel as lonely but there are plenty of places like the beaches and cliffsides where you really get that Ico vibe, looking down at the waves crashing on the beaches. I love it.

I love how you can see the MP hotspots of activity on the map. Helps you choose where to coop.

I'm not sure how that works though ... I was in one area where the map showed blue and red rings, which I guess means that there are Invaders and co-opers there - but I used the furloughed finger or whatever it's called and I didn't see any markings at all.

It was @Broker who was after it, might be of help to him.

So, (this is the kind of cool little thing that I love in games), has any one else noticed this when you’re at the River Well area.....

Spoiler

There’s a horse jump point halfway through the level, a bit further on from the torches. If you use it, then head along the broken bridge, jumping over the gap that you come to, then you reach the end and can see a figure stood on a remote platform in the distance. Seems to be just looking up at the glittering crystals that look like stars. Is there a way of getting to them or is it just a little Easter egg kind of thing? Got a real sense of mystery to it!

Just noticed some stuff on the map so looks like you can but not from this point.

With regards to your spoiler, yes there is a way. I got there yesterday. Just gotta explore some more!
