Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

Was feeling pretty pleased with myself, having jumped over the gap between the starting area and one to the south. Found this spectral guy who I followed to cave. Great stuff. I go in, the floor gives way and I get killed by enormous bear.

I think my game is bugged because the benny hill theme tune never seems to activate.

You can just run in get key and run out

Anyway I've been cautiously the Raya Academy and was making excellent progress, beat the mid level boss on my second attempt, it was pretty easy tbh.  Grace point there is my latest one.

The making my way across the roof. Drop down into a room clear it and see this guy waiting at end of bridge.

Sooo he killed me with his flaming crossbow bolts.  Make my way back thinking I have him now but nope he had me again 11k runes and I've turned it off to have a break and reduce my rage.

Such a good game but boy did I curse.

Did you at least kick down the ladder to open the shortcut to that area?

I killed the big nasty dude who stands outside the building D sends you to when you get your first ******. (Also the destination for the teleporter on the way to the ball farm).

Turns out

Spoiler

The mimic ash is stupidly OP. I blasted him a couple of times with my comet azure while Mimic boi (best boi) tanked his arse off barely taking any damage. I missed a load of shots because he moves so much and ended up getting in the last couple of blows with my +14 morning star

The thing at the bottom of Stormveil is unbelievably shit. One of the worst things I’ve played for ages. It’s too big to see what moves it’s doing so it’s impossible to dodge, it’s too big for the area so it traps you on scenery, it glitches through the walls or you glitch through the boss, it can hit you through walls, it’s got attacks that are unavoidable etc. It’s proper rubbish. I’ve died to it over and over, not because it’s a difficult challenge but because it’s appallingly designed and horrendously unfair. Amazes me how there can be something so shite in a game that”s so good.

Man, the Shaded Castle in Altus Plateau is brilliant but utterly harrowing.

Spoiler

A poison moat full of homing-magic casters, ghostly horse riders who fog the place up, shambling mud-men who like to suddenly eat your head, 'perfumers' who can burn you to death with a single spark, and, in keeping with the game's endlessly recursive design, the equivalent of DeS red-eyed knights all over the shop. And this isn't even a 'legacy' dungeon! 😅

Good Lord, it is not! It’s easily on a par with everything else, bamboozling!

Nah, it really is shite. A mess of a battle against the camera, impossible to distinguish attacks and being hit through the scenery. The worst part is

Spoiler

...there's more of them later. In the capital it bugs out if I try to fight from range.

So, I am up to the boss of the Caelid legacy dungeon. The first time the game has really disappointed me - unless I am doing something wrong, this boss is very RNG heavy and can one shot me at will in the second phase, which just doesn’t seem fair as the battle is long.  Anyone done this? I am underlevelled at 68 or just need to hope I get lucky?

I'm using the Ashes of War moves in this game far more than the Weapon Arts in Dark Souls 3 (which I don't think I used at all actually, now I think of it). The one that comes with the Zweihander is awesome, as the L2 pre-strike gives you an i-frame it seems, so it feels like you duck under an attack and then you hit R2 and WHOMP! up in the air they go.

It's delightful. :)

Yeah the unsheath on the uchi is so powerful I love it, only complaint is I had to find a version of it in the wild to be able to turn my Uchi keen.

This game is absolutely staggering, I've got 73 hours on the clock ,eve, 78 (I've no lifed it) and I'm still finding major things in Liurnia, I'm occasionally skim reading this thread for fear of spoilers as I have taken everything nice and steady. It's just incredible what Form have achieved here, even to tehir fans who were expecting a decent game I think they've been surprised by the scale and the uniqueness to the vast open world. It's as groundbreaking as BOTW and seemingly as popular as Skyrim looking at my online friends list every night. I'm doing my playthrough completely offline but yesterday I stumbled on a an island in the lake I had missed which led me to going online to invade, I'm happy to say my many hours of invading in DS3 led me to getting one win out of 3 immediately one shotting a summon with Unsheath and then taking out the seemingly alarmed host who was spamming r1 twinblade attacks at me.

I'm going away for a week from Friday, there's no way I'm finishing before then, I'll be playing this game for a long time to come that's for sure. Bravo From Software! And thank christ for Miyazaki.

Just out of interest......are you able to explain why it’s so good? Just wondering how you justify not being able to dodge it’s attacks......because you can’t see them........because they’re glitching straight through walls? Or what about the camera going crazy and glitching all over the place? Or the player character glitching through the boss? Or not being able to see any of its attacks, or dodge them, even when locked on because it’s just too big for the area and for the camera to deal with?

Just to check we are talking about the.....

Spoiler

Enemy at the bottom of the very long rope ladder.

Played around 80hrs and haven’t experienced anything like that, other than on that boss.

I killed it first time though I was lucky I spammed roll at one point and iframed through an attack that definitely would have killed me. Thing is I've coop'd through the chalice dungeons of bloodborne for hundreds of hours and it was very much like fighting the headless bloodletting beast or amygdala in one of the smaller chambers they appear in, a huge enemy with the camera clipping all over the place. It is fucked but it's definitely possible, don't lock on, stay underneath as much as possible and attack and roll as needed!

Was going to head there next as the game seems to be indicating but am only level 50ish, might put it off then!

So just exploring the bottom of the Academy,

Spoiler

I got eaten by a Virgin Abductor and was sent to hell. Literally. The enemies here are particularly badly suited to my big heavy ass sword and I noped out of fighting two Abductors as a boss, a enemy I just can't seem to get the timing or range on.

Plus I hate hate hate hate grab attacks, which everyone keeps doing to me and one shotting my glass canon

I did this earlier, it is kind of bullshit tbh and it's not a boss I like but I can appreciate From trying something different here. It's actually more of a puzzle of a fight, this is how I did it:

Spoiler

Start on foot, he will be firing purple arrows at your, the aim here is to dodge through the arrows whilst summoning all your mates, when you summon jar man he changes his arrows to an air attack and a straight on, I wasn't good at that part I just run around and tried to keep the arrows away from my buddies as they tracked me, once buddies start meleeing him you cna get in close. I am a dex build and I put the blood stuff onto my katana and went ape at his ballsack, about 30% of the time I was able to get to 2nd phase. In the break of 2nd phase I got on torrent and went down the hill and then rode diagonal to the right as fasts as I could to avoid getting one shot, then I mainly stayed on horse back summoning my friends whilst also shootingn arrows at him. Eventually he went down, it wasn't fun tbh.

Yeah, i gave up trying to take it on properly. It became clear pretty quickly it’s a mess, as it killed me about 5 times in a row by glitching a big attack through a wall! I just resorted to strong jump attacking it as much as possible, rolling a lot and hoping for the best. It staggered twice when I finally did it, even though it didn’t on 10 or so other goes. Proper random battle.

Its the kind of thing that bugs me because you need to rely on the designers, and to trust them to make things fair and well balanced. When they don’t it always makes me think there can be other stuff coming up that can be just as bad. In these games, that have a higher difficulty than most, it can really start to grate and put me off.

Anyway, hopefully it’s just a blip, nothing’s perfect! Just realised I’ve not actually solved the puzzle of the lift, which is what I was originally trying to do.

I’m totally stumped when it comes to the big lift. Been around the castle numerous times now, and can’t find anything new, or any messages leaving a hint etc, so  not sure what I’m missing. Heading off elsewhere for now and will return later. Good to know that there is a route I need to discover.

Just spent the evening dicking around trying to level up a bit. And also powering up the grafted greatsword I’ve been trying to use for days. Finally now can dual hand it, and now it’s levelled up to a +5 it’s a beast. Just had a rampage around the lakes hitting things with it and it’s a poise breaking behemoth. Just need to learn to use it before heading back to some bosses with it.

Still utterly useless at dodging but I’ll get there

Remembered to put the 'rllmuk' password in yesterday, and saw my first message with a circle around it, so gave it an upvote.  Then a bit later a message popped up that someone had beaten a shardbearer.  Same name as the message (looked like a japanese symbol).  Does everyone with the rllmuk password get a message when anyone else beats a boss?  This is on PS5.

Wait what? Did you not agree to join their club?

For me it’s just a house where I get quests. Then when I’d finished them all I got the chance to fight the boss?

Spoiler

I did, but then when I spoke to Rya after a couple of kills for them, she talks about seeing a snake go into the room next to hers.

There's a hidden wall in there which takes you "behind the scenes" where you go through prison, prison village, creepy church, creepy prison church to their lord.

Then I ran away cus he hurts. Tanith seems to still like me though!

Rahdan down! Gave up sniping and just kept unloading hyperbeams on him. Then in post climax shaking skipped the cutscene.

Heres my hectic messy kill

Spoiler

Also cleared the Shaded Castle

I just found GFEL (guy in the WCR of L,RC). Christ.

Battle notes:

Spoiler

He doesn't seem too insane (at least the first phase that I've seen) - lots of slow, telegraphed things - but it looks like he has a ton of health, and those delayed swings are MtFE all over again...
