Has everyone got a Jellyfish that is better than mine? I took mine in and it seemed to do very little damage and no poison.

Im about 25 hours - level 25 and still no nearer beating the bastard but had great fun elsewhere cleaning up some of the bosses.

Same here.

The three attempts I made saw the jelly dead in 20-30 seconds leaving me to manage him on my lonesome.

Have you levelled Jellybelly up?

It makes a huge difference

I think it was at +1 but I gave up on the spirits after that dismal showing. I do use the wolves on mobs in the wilderness when allowed though...

This game is like taking a bit of your favourite ice cream and each time you take a bite there are more scoops appearing out of nowhere.

I have a notepad of open quests/areas/threads etc.

I'm amazed how it just doesn't ever seem to decrease.

Leveling up spirits makes an enormous difference to their longevity. A +5 spirit is a completely different beast to a +1 spirit. It isn't even hard to get multiple up to around +5 in the early to mid game either

Crystalian bosses can do one too. I have a scythe and for my other weapon I have another scythe. I am not setup for fighting things made of crystal, all the bloody miners die easily enough. This boss pair though, it’s not happening! I’d probably do better punching them bare handed.

I'm rocking 2 scythes. If you just stagger them and critical it does an arseload of damage and they aren't too much bother.

in the end when I beat him it wasn’t that hard, I think I’d just relaxed and learned not to get too greedy but also when to punish him.

Same. The one where I beat him I was actually enjoying it in a relaxed way rather than feeling stressed or desperate. Same for Margit.

My partner said my play style developed with each try on G, and I always have summons still alive when they finally go down. So definitely pressing the “right” buttons during those times.

Yeah my Raya Lucaria Soldiers are Badass. I’m wishing I had more FP to use some of the other spirits I’ve found though.

Banished Knight for me, he is my homie. At +4 he is absolutely destroying.

What are other melee types doing to try and negate magic damage? The fact a lot of it acts like a homing misfile, rolling isn’t always working.

I tend to dodge it by running at them diagonally if I have the space and (particularly for homing stuff) roll towards and through the spells.

For groups of dudes I'll sometimes hide behind a corner til one or more walks up then I leap out and jumping attack them to the face HYAH!

No need to be sad, I'm faith and I melt things

I have bought a new invocation and wrecked that stupid Crystal pair. Clearly I just need to experiment more and pay attention to the description on my godslayer seal.

I was watching Day[9] try Margit over and over again last night, and I felt like it was a gratifying to see someone else struggle as I think my first attempts were better than his. BUT he stayed very calm and analytical - always trying to look closely at where he was getting hit and how to avoid it - and looking for new openings to get hits in - trying different positioning. The vod is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkSfM2kN5Pc and it takes him about an hour. He is rarely getting it below half health first but just doesn't let that phase him. I'd have been getting annoyed at how impossible it was wayyy before that! Or even if I manage to keep emotions in check, I definitely didn't think around the issues as well as this, for Margit at least.

I thought it was a really, really instructive example of how to approach Souls bosses, and I can see now why it's a much better "tutorial" boss than I gave it credit for. Really recommend the whole first hour if you have the time and/or you're struggling with the early bosses.

Anyone else regretting not taking notes about what quests NPCs have asked you to do? It’s got to the point where it’s now entirely random whether I complete a quest or not

I regret not drawing a full on master piece journal like the person in here has. Then I remembered, I can't draw.

Just found the [Aldus Plateau related ...]

Village of Windmills

Creepiest area so far with it's folk horror vibes and enemy behaviour/ noises!  Considering this is meant to be more of a fantasy setting, this game does a good job of out-horroring Bloodborne in places.

Anyway - back to the convo I was having with someone earlier (sorry can't remember who it was) regarding whether there's a defined/set order to take down the "Big Bosses" ...

  Hide contents

I feel that, at this point, the Plateau and the Capital aren't the only options for places to go - I also ended up over in Caelid fighting Radahn, who is another big boss - seeing as the guy in Round Table Hold is heavily signposting me towards the Capital I think there's a big boss (one with a great rune) waiting for me there too? So maybe I was right in saying there isn't a set order?

Where is that location in the spoilers? Can you take a pic of where it is on your map?

As for the second half, I guess it will depend which great runes are optional? I’ve got 6 now I think.

Yes.

In other “ooh, what’s over there?” news, I ended up finding a legacy dungeon by accident up in Mt. Gelmir

It’s just outside Volcano Manor and has a big, fat Godskin (God Skin? God’s Kin?) as the final boss.

 What’s it called?

How come some bosses have no summons outside? I'm stuck on two and summon signs never appear outside. I am using the correct item....

No one in the area or perhaps not at the same level

I can't remember any of the names properly of this but I was at the Weepy bit and had a good poke around Mouldy Castle. I found a Claymore! Woo. The boss there is a bit too quick for me at the moment, though - I need more stamina!

And then I fought two Demi-Human chief things and was able to summon my wolf bois to help. Great fun.

Is the Capital the last section? Was advised to go this way but I'm getting totally destroyed by a tree sentinel before I even get in.

Really getting on my tits.

I’m at the point where I’ll summons hawners whenever I can. Life’s too short to try and do some of these by myself.

btw, I’m finding the lore a bit impenetrable - even more so than dark souls. How are folks deciphering the story?

I did this earlier, it is kind of bullshit tbh and it's not a boss I like but I can appreciate From trying something different here. It's actually more of a puzzle of a fight, this is how I did it:

  Reveal hidden contents

Start on foot, he will be firing purple arrows at your, the aim here is to dodge through the arrows whilst summoning all your mates, when you summon jar man he changes his arrows to an air attack and a straight on, I wasn't good at that part I just run around and tried to keep the arrows away from my buddies as they tracked me, once buddies start meleeing him you cna get in close. I am a dex build and I put the blood stuff onto my katana and went ape at his ballsack, about 30% of the time I was able to get to 2nd phase. In the break of 2nd phase I got on torrent and went down the hill and then rode diagonal to the right as fasts as I could to avoid getting one shot, then I mainly stayed on horse back summoning my friends whilst also shootingn arrows at him. Eventually he went down, it wasn't fun tbh.

Thanks for the advice, I just did it!

Spoiler

I was actually already able to consistently get to the second phase, but your post made me realise I needed to play the second part much more cautiously and basically just run away and focus on resummoning the NPCs. I first tried doing no fighting myself and letting the NPCs do the damage, but doing this eventually they all die and this seemed to usually happen when he had 20% or so health left and then could still rush towards me and one shot me. However, a combination of summoning the NPCs and firing a few arrows whilst he was distracted fighting them did the trick. Once I understood this I don't hate the fight, as using these tactics I was consistently getting close to beating him every attempt. But it must have took me 20-30 attempts, and I think the one-shotting is just cheap - if it gave you some chance to recover if hit by an orb it might actually be ok, but going from full health, boss down to its last 10% of health to game over in 1 second with no attack build up is just a bit unbalanced.

Anyway, onwards to the Capital - I am looking forward to it from what people have said. I loved the atmosphere of Caelid but the actual design of the areas in it was a bit underwhelming.

I don’t know actually, it’s just literally outside Volcano manor.

Congrats man! This game just gives and gives I’ve got the capital outskirts grace but I’m exploring around the outside first. It’s beautiful. Also I spent two hours farming the Raya academy horseback knights for their armour set. Had all but the gloves after a couple of farms, took forever to get the gloves!
