Beware, it's possible Pinholestar's Radahn glitched like he did in my game. Mine didn't transition to the second phase either.

No, you can legit skip it with that item. Its what speedrunners currently use. Ridiculously OP and you can acquire it within like 15 minutes.

PSA for Radahn:

Holy shit, I just stumbled across a huge cheese for this absolute fucking arsehole entirely by accident as I was trying anything and everything on him in the vain hope that something would miraculously get me past this massive obstacle and lo and behold I managed to completely skip the second phase of the fight. Never fist-pumped so hard in my life. :omg:

Do the following:

  Hide contents

You need the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War, which can be obtained from an invisible scarab in the pool of water south-east of Caria Manor.

Just spam this on Radahn and it'll fuck him up completely and utterly. He didn't even have a chance to transition to his second phase because when he knelt down in preparation for it I just kept hitting him with it and it wiped out the second half of his health bar in seconds and killed him before he could even get up. :omg:

Just tipped past the 100 hour mark in this peerless Miyazaki masterpiece too. Onwards!

Isn’t there also a one handed axe that already comes with that ash of war? I take it that would suffice, providing the ash of war doesn’t need to be applied to a specific weapon setup.

I think I found it somewhere in Lurnia lake.

Just a word of warning about potential invaders using this dastardly setup using ‘Fires deadly sin’ and ‘deathblight’ which is doing the rounds as it’s broken.

though it you can range them out it’s certainly doable to counter.

Being as non-spoilery as possible, can someone answer me if there is a talisman that helps to reduce magic damage in Limgrave..? and if so a very rough location (north/south/east/west)? Thanks! :)

It's in the Weeping Peninsula area.

Put this in the other thread, but meant to stick it in here. 10s of me killing a trash mob in the capital with the weapon art on my Halo scythe. It’s good, outranges my spells easily.

Spoiler

I bet there’s other better ones out there, what’s everyone else’s goto art?

Yeah I just had a quick look through my weapons and it’s on the Icerind Hatchet.

Not surprising that the speedrunners have picked up on that move as I couldn’t believe my eyes when it absolutely melted his health bar, especially after I’d spent literally hours banging my head against that particular brick wall and was beginning to think that the only way I’d beat him was if I stupidly overlevelled myself.

Anyway, he’s done with now so fuck ‘im.

Following that unexpected but very welcome triumph I was advised by

Spoiler

Blaidd to meet him where the stars fell to the earth, which was somewhat vague.

Was doing a quick round of the merchants that I’ve marked on my map to see if there was anything worth picking up with the 70k runes I’d just won and came across a massive fucking crater that had suddenly appeared south of the Mistwood.  I assume this is where the star fell and it’s going to enable me to finally reach Nokron, The Eternal City.

After 100 hours this game just continues to confound and delight at every single turn. It’s overwhelming in its brilliance.

Bloody Slash seems stupidly OP to me. It’s ripped its way through many a boss and when all else fails it rarely lets me down.

Yeah, Bloody Slash is great, especially with a bleed weapon. It saps a bit of your own HP with each use, but I used it yesterday to fuck up a mini boss in two hits.

Doing it alone is absolutely “hard mode”, and can be rewarding, and with NPC’s summons it’s probably Boss encounters at their easiest. Getting Co-op players increases the bosses health.

Just like every other game, I mix it up dependant on how I’m feeling, but will always give a solo run a shot first.

This game has more bosses than a boss convention so There’s plenty of opportunity

Woah - this might change everything.  Thanks!

Hoarfrost Stomp will absolutely get nerfed in the first balance patch that From release.

Any more stuff that i might wanna try and use before From starts wielding that infamous nerf hammer?

It's become clear i prefer the murky, dark and weird areas over the bright Limgraves / Lakes of Lurnia in this so i booked another trip to the Cealid region.

Ran past a few dragons (spotted the big one people use to level up but resisted the urge) and found another trader who sold me something handy for handling some of the wild life. Had a couple of those huge doggo's roaming about so tested it out and was pleased it worked until a red eyed version popped out and one shot me. So some of them have heightened aggro and ignore my stick? Tested some more but no more red eyes, saw a broken carriage in the distance and proceeded to get the loot, stick in hand so the doggies surrounding it would leave me be. Suddenly there is a huge screaching sound and one of those rotten crow things barges in from behind the dogs and rips me a new one. Pretty funny but made me a bit insecure about my sticks effectiveness now.

Went somewhere close by and found some tree roots that i jumped on. Spotted a few regular looking soldiers on the outside ledges of some castle so thought that might be easier. So....I still hate fighting on ledges and those guys had poise for days. Went back to the lakes.

Hmm, I think I tried what @pinholestar mentioned when I was at Radahn but didn't get the same outcome, so it might be a gamble. Aside from that, it's also good to be carrying a weapon that causes

Spoiler

bleed

as you can get through the early phase stuff relatively quickly - as long as you're not greedy.

One of the often unremarked joys of this game / series is returning to an earlier part of the game and monstering your way through enemies you earlier had to hold your breath to face. Indeed, the game is hard and making progress will almost always tax your abilities but that sense of frustration can often be counterbalanced by revisiting earlier areas with your new equipment, exploring them with impunity as you slice through enemies with ease, maybe returning to that mini boss you once ran past. I think it's an important part of the souls recipe which makes the games so compelling.

Just yesterday I returned to the very first area to take a break from pressing ahead and sure enough, discovered an entirely new area by accident, it really is an incredible game.

For those curious about the specific area I found:

Spoiler

For the curious, the area was the coastal cave, which leads to a separate island once completed. Can't recall what loot was available but it's an easy enough detour and worth the effort.

Thanks, but I've been up the lift ... If you mean the Great Lift of Dectus ... Which need 2 halves of a medallion. Or are you taking about another lift?

I'm stuck with getting into (what I assume is) the actual capital itself, not the plateau. I've gone up the lift, followed the path toward the big city, gone through the gates there - then there's another circular pathway that leads to another set of huge doors, which look like they are the actual entrance to the city itself, going by the map. They are closed though, and there's no clue nearby as to how they might open.

Spoiler

Look for some roots, you can jump down there and proceed to the boss that way

Ah right, I see. I'm starting to feel some FOMO about these speedruns now, but I must finish the game first. It doesn't help that I spent hours thinking Volcano Manor was inaccessible until later when it was actually my failure to spot a brown ladder against a brown cliff. 🤦‍♂️

Regarding the weapon arts, am I right in saying that if I want to have intelligence scaling on my weapon then I have to use one of the blue weapon arts? There aren't many.

Initially yes, but eventually you'll find things that expand your options further :)

Just put a couple of STR and DEX points into my FTH build so that I can wield the purty Winged Scythe. Am I right in thinking that Ashes Of War can't be applied to certain weapons? I planned on adding an additional faith buff to the scythe, but no go.

Lovely backstab animation on the Winged Scythe. Brutal, but beautiful. Made me wince the first time I saw it.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!

I’ve just done in 4 attempts what I couldn’t do in the previous 50 or so! It didn’t skip the second phase for me but it was still a hell of a lot easier.

re the earlier inventory chat, am I the only one who went the first 12+ hours not even looking at it?

I was just like 'oh ok, firegrease, cool, I might use that at some point. Sacred stones? *shrug* Cant hurt I guess?'

Also, if no-one has yet made a meme of those dev tweets in the style of DS1 morose npc, they really should.

edit:

Fucking hell, it's happened. Someone speedran ER in 2.5 hrs. Already. Fast in more ways than one.

At that rate I can probably only watch the first 10 minutes before spoilers. edit: 11 minutes, as it turns out. :D

I'm starting to think they didn't add a Big Crab spirit summon. What were From even doing all these years??? :seanr:

The 'dog' notes left beside all the tortoises still make me laugh. I'm sure you see the player base affecting the tone of the game is common in MMORPGs and whatnot but feels unique to From's games. Geniuses.

Hogworts is tough, real tough. Keep getting lit up by magician assholes.

I've hit a wall, kind of. I no longer know where I'm supposed to go.

  Hide contents

I've unlocked most of the map (there's a bit in the western part of the snowy mountains that's still uncovered) but other than that the map seems complete. I'm level 78 and I've reached the boss in the northen most castle on the map, castle sol or something like that. I don't have a chance against him.

I've unlocked the ancient rune from Godrick in Limgrave, but I can't seem to do so for the rune from the Moon Queen in Lurnia Lake, I think I need an item for a pedestal at the bottom of the tower. I've looked all over for this but can't seem to find an object that fits.

Ive also got an ancient rune from the capital city, the dude guarding the thorn wall, I've no idea where to activate this rune. I can't seem to get on track of finding more legacy dungeons. I've tried the desert boss but I seem to be way too underpowered to take him on.

I'd love to get a wee hint or two what to do next.

Spoiler

Moon lady’s great rune doesn’t need activating, it just lets you access the respec ability she has. Morgott’s great rune is activated at a tower across the bridge from the lift that took you down to the snowy mountains.

I’m about where you are, also not sure where Melia wants me to go next. There’s a giant ass bowl thing in the North East of the mountaintops area guarded by a fucking massive enemy. Then there’s the castle Sol boss, who is also fucking me. There must be something in mountaintops though.

If you want to get into the capital, go to the big wall that stops you getting in and follow it all the way around to the left.

I think most unique weapons, like boss ones and pretty much anything you level up with somber stones, have unique ashes that you can’t remove.

Right help needed for the underground bit.

Feel free to reply in spoilers

Spoiler

Lit 7 of 8 of the torches and feel like I've fully explored now and can't find the last bloody one. Even found another teleport on top of a crumbled building and it took me to Necron? Wandered around stumbled into this Dragonkin soldier who is massive and twatted me.  Rode Torrent to get my 15k runes. Stuck on his leg pressing Y desperately twatted again and dead.

I'm coming back for this twat later as wasn't doing much damage, but really want to activate the last torch on the stairs.  Help

Inside the capital. This place is huge! And I keep getting lost. And running away from everything so I don't lose runes.

I'm lvl 93 and so much more map to unlock.

I've only been able to summon one NPC the entire game (before the margirit fight) I thought when I would interact with those wee statues it would give me an option. But it's never happened.

I’ve finally got the Bloodhound Fang and while it’s a pretty imposing weapon, I feel it’s too slow for my playstyle as I’ve got so used to my Lordsworn’s Straight Sword that I’ve got to +5.

My question is will the Bloodhound Fang become any faster if I level it up or level my STR/DEX, or am I better off looking for a different sword?

Which leads me to my second question, which sword should I be looking for that scales well but is fast?

I’m worried about wasting any more smithing stones on upgrading my Lordsworn’s if there are better ones out there for the taking.
