Smithing stones are pretty rare to come by so choose wisely which weapons you upgrade. And mines are the source, in the later levels the bosses in mines generally drop a bell bearing you can give to the twin maidens to unlock certain infite purchases of stones. Mines have a distinctive look on the map.

Ah, I know about the mines. Didn’t know about the Bell Bearings though. Just wondered if there was a merchant I’d missed. Ta!

There's an island in the lakes you can find him chilling on with a grace point. Easily visible from the lakes telescope, is how I found him..

I don’t know what I did wrong but he’s not there. :(

Searched all the islands and then looked it up.

Spoiler

Without getting into a fight with any Bosses on the way, head to the Scenic Isle, a small island south of Liurnia of the lakes and north of Stormveil Castle. Make your way at night-time, when you’ll once again find Patches

Got to the second phase of FG...

Spoiler

Horsey duking seems essential for avoiding those stomps and shield bash moves (and I did enjoy getting dismount iframes through the snow toss when I was feeling ballsy!)

I feel like the fire pillars are just something to run from - they have a long startup, they're in fixed positions... it's like the game wants you to leg it. He was at like 30% health before I died from hanging around flames too much.

Just done a brilliant section through a cave/mine section up near the massive lift. Haven’t beaten the boss up there yet but he’s on my list for later.

Like others I keep doing a “chill run” around areas I think I’ve rinsed and finding new things. It’s madness.

Anyway, I’m preparing myself for more rage by trying again to beat CK, with my new improved dexterity and moon sword thing build. Fingers crossed but so far dexterity suits me a lot more than strength.

Also, where might I find another good sword to go with this moon sword thing?

The Katana? Small swords and knives work well for the bleed damage and LB combo moves when they're duel equipped.

Today...i shall mostly be doing subequests.

I went on a little jaunt through Caelid and the surrounding areas yesterday and managed to snag myself a mean looking katana - the Meteoric Ore Blade.

Now, it needs me to have 18 INT to use it properly and I’ve been mainly concentrating on STR/DEX, so the question is, shall I get my INT up? Is it worth it, for anyone that uses it?

It does look excellent and it’s really fast. Just the way I like them.

Edit: If I was to pump a load of runes into INT, what else does that open up to me? I’m considering whether to tailor my build around this blade.

Finally found Malenia this morning, cool fight but she quickly fell to the new build I am using.

Now to head onwards to the end

This game is easily 10/10, 100/100 A+++++ etc etc

Can't wait to see what DLC they release for it

No if you want a katana get the uchigatana it’s in a catacomb in limgrave. Later you can get an even better non magic katana if you follow the bloody finger quest line. The two i mention don’t need any int or faith investment and you can make them keen heavy or quality depending on preference

Ooh, I’ll have a look for that one then. Why do you think that’s better than the one I’ve found?

Sorceries and staffs.   Useful ranged alternative.

God. The effort in the weapon moves that have gone into this. So many weapons and then they combo differently once duel wielded. In fact the animation is partly what makes this so good.

And whats the betting some sad'o (or sado) completes this with just their fist.....or the torch?

And the hit detection of everything is generally top-notch too, both you and enemies.

In fact, I'd been meaning to ask - has anyone gotten much use out of dodge-jumping? I've only done it a couple of times by accident but you have to wonder if there are certain enemy movesets where it would work consistently. Hard to know with it being literally a new possibility in the DS series, but I bet there'll be some inhumanly skilled player who can do it well. Don't think you get any i-frames though, right?

The low swooping attacks from giants, or the AOE earthquake attacks can be avoided with a jump.

I know this not because I can do it, but because I've seen it on YouTube.

Also learned: fire attacks are weaker if it's raining.

Beat that battlefield bastard, now at the hidden city (Nekron?). I lit the fires and I'm fighting that hard boss that jumps around and heals. First go, doing well. It's like a game of chess with the bastard. Have it down to a wee bit of health left...and my wee grandaughter wakes up and turns off the Xbox.

Now there's no save point close so its a massive jaunt to get back to the area.

I could cry. But I love this game so much I don't mind. 😪🤣
