Got to the second phase of FG...

Horsey duking seems essential for avoiding those stomps and shield bash moves (and I did enjoy getting dismount iframes through the snow toss when I was feeling ballsy!)

I feel like the fire pillars are just something to run from - they have a long startup, they're in fixed positions... it's like the game wants you to leg it. He was at like 30% health before I died from hanging around flames too much.

Gah, I'm sure I just needed another bleed pop to secure the win on my last attempt. It's so easy for your health to vanish from a glancing blow...

If I'm not getting summoned for a boss (Rennala) then is this likely because my level is too high for the matchmaking? I'm currently level 67.

Most likely, if you’re doing it for randoms. There’s a set level range per boss and once you exceed that your summon sign won’t even appear for people. You can still coop with friends regardless of level, but it will shrink yours down to closer to theirs for the duration.

Yeah - when I got summoned my health bar seemed noticeable smaller and I only had 5 flask refills instead of 10.

Also, this time around Rennala

Spoiler

summoned a load of different monster spirits in her second phase, including a dragon. She didn't do that with me, ha!

She did it in my first attempt against her, but on my second go I killed her so quickly she didn’t. Or maybe it bugged, I dunno.

Yeah, it seems if you just rush her she doesn't have a chance to get off any.

Praise the Bloody Slash! That's sure to get nerfed.

Bloody slash is so good. I'm not even using it with blood affinity. That extra little bit of range is super nice though and the damage it deals seems disproportionately big!

Why doesn't it just delevel you for randoms as well? I did a few co-op bosses with friends as a very high level and even someone like Godrick could easily kill me if I wasn't careful and yet they don't use that system for playing with randoms? It makes no sense.

Ooh, I’ll have a look for that one then. Why do you think that’s better than the one I’ve found?

well if you’re not investing in int then you’re better off with the uchigatana as it only requires str and dex. I’m assuming you’re not using int, straight up melee right? The defaul weapon art on the Uchigatana is fantastic too, unsheath comes really quick and does a lot of damage and stagger. The second katana comes with one called piercing fang which is interchangeable with other katanas too and it allows you to pierce through enemies with shields up. Trust me it’s very useful in a later area ;)

but if you want to invest in int then the moon veil is great but it’s not a reason on its own to invest in int, it’s there for hybrid int/melee builds.

Mentioned in the other thread I'd been practising two-handed a bit more and I'm really pleased with this fight vs Dragonkin Soldier. Messed up the second half a bit but first half was really clean. Bloody slash doing crazy damage here too.

Wait, there’s an uchi I’ve missed in bloody Limgrave???

Yeah dude there’s a catacomb I’m away right now, sitting in an airport delayed so I can’t tell you which one but it’s kind of in the middle of the map or north east of t he starting area perhaps in the area before the castle I can’t remember it was a long time ago, I know if I had the map in front of me I could probably pick it out!

The low swooping attacks from giants, or the AOE earthquake attacks can be avoided with a jump.

I know this not because I can do it, but because I've seen it on YouTube.

Also learned: fire attacks are weaker if it's raining.

Yeah but lightening is stronger. The physics are THAT good. I don't know what affects gravity though.

Maybe its stronger if your closer to the sea. Or at night....because.....moon.

I picked up so much stuff last night, fending off one-shot death as I was doing it and hitting the accept button to get it off the screen. Got to start tonight with a rummage round the inventory to see if there's anything decent in there. I think I'll be able to get Moonveil to plus three as there were a few good stones in there.

How was the high Dex build?

Meh. Earlier it was great, especially with a katana as there’s lots of early enemies and bosses susceptible to bleed. As the game went on though, I found the bleed worked less often and was less effective (probably because I wasn’t levelling arcane), and the range of katanas isn’t great (though I know there’s one which I imagine is amazing that I haven’t got).

Ultimately, I know there’s always an element of FOMO but I found a lot of really cool looking STR weapons compared to dex ones, as well as tonnes of exciting stuff that needed faith or int. going through everything I’ve picked up in 98 hours, the dex options were sparse and not very exciting.

There’s also a lot of bosses later on that you need to dodge two or three times before you get a window to hit, and if that hit is one or two insubstantial slices it’s less satisfying than a big old smack. I’ve staggered like one or two bosses the whole game, and I’m jealous seeing people online get staggers and high damage ripostes.

It was fun enough, but on my new build I’ve rushed straight to the greatsword and pumped levels into STR so I can wield it immediately. Having a lot of fun with that.

Mega Bleed, can proc bleed pretty much with every attack if they are weak to it

Going to have fun with it, as I suspect bleed will be nerfed

Did you try the twin blade pole type weapons @Broker? They look kinda fun and I’m not sure I’ve seen those before in previous From entries. But yeah I’ve noticed the dex offerings lacking, might be a result of the ashes as I just made the claymore keen so it outputs nice damage even with my high dex build.

Did Caria Manor this morning and a rather easy fight against the boss.  But boy are those hand things disturbing

Aye finished there today. Fuckers are tough as well as creepy. Also got a cool weapon that I don't have the stats for :(

Boss went down almost easier than one of the hands lol.

I’ve done the bit on the bridge where you drop onto the roofs and go down a ladder. Can’t really find anything to explore.

There's another route there that takes you to a lift. Easy to miss if you're dodging those re-spawning magic bastards.

Productive day today. Poked my nose around Altus and got invited to Volcano Manor. Will do them soon enough. Instead, I headed up to Caria Manor and met a handy chap on the way there

Spoiler

Iji, the Giant Blacksmith. As I'd already met Blaidd he had an item in stock that I couldn't afford as well as some Smithing Stones that I could afford and got my Uchi upgraded :D

After clearing the Manor I picked up a quest you receive from the area behind the boss

Spoiler

It's the Ranni one. Bumped into Blaidd again along with the blacksmith I'd just met and another sorcerer. The quest took me to Siofra River which I had been avoiding since discovering early and getting twatted by those ghostly archers. It was surprisingly easier this time around but still kept getting twatted!

I'd already

Spoiler

lit some of the fires, so I dashed around and managed to get the remaining ones. Touched the horny head and took down the boss first go!

I also found the map of the area but not until after I'd lit all the fires

Looks like there's an additional area that I can't get to yet

The quest is now sending me to Caelid which I'm not looking forward to!

@robdood - did you ever find the other way down into Ainsel River? Like you

Spoiler

I couldn't find a way to get to the northern part of the area, despite being able to see it on the map. There must be another well in Liurnia somewhere.

Also, is there an obvious way to get up to that massive plateau in the south-west corner of Liurnia. The bit that overhangs the Albinauric village? I've been all the way around the perimeter but can't see a way up there. Maybe there's a warp gate that takes you to the top.

This is where I am at now and I’m finding it really fucking depressing. I do not like being in Caelid.

You’re technically on a side quest as wel by the way, so take note of what your band of merry men NPCs say and try to do everything they say.

As for the bit southwest of lakes, pretty sure I just jumped up some rocks to get up there, nothing too fancy.

If you want to know...

Spoiler

You have to beat Radahn before you can access that area.

Is it my imagination or do you get your FFR back if you die before summoning?

Yeah the twinblades seem amazing, but I didn’t find one until really late so I didn’t have a chance to properly try it out.

Yeah I'd seen some chat that this was a quest so been keeping an eye on what they've been saying!
