How many runes does the big ball net btw? My current farming method gives me around 4000 in just under two minutes.

Got the Claymore to +12 for 315 damage. So a tad less, and no bleed effect. But we’ll see how the cold hurts him.

Think it’s 1500 a go, but I’ve not tried it as I haven’t done any farming for runes. It’ll be 1500 x how quickly you can reload at the nearby grace point.

Might pick up a greatsword 😬

Been using a basic one for 99% of my level 112 character. Have it upgraded to +19 and would be pointless for me to even try anything else now.

Take a look at the medallion description in your inventory.

Or!

Look for an alternative route to the plateau near the 'official' route.

Lol nvm, my volcano route has brought me out on Altus plains! Amazing. I love the number of ways to progress in this game.

Literally god tier.

Fromsoft have legitimately made the best open world game on their first try. God bless you, Michael Zaki.

There are better swords if you’re a heavy strength build.

I think it’s really funny that @Broker said earlier he was envious of all the strength weapons cus dex weapons were boring - that’s exactly the opposite of how I felt! Too many boring, poorly scaling strength weapons, dex gets all the fun stuff :P

I have tons of swords but would need to spend ages upgrading for them to come near my current build.

Sorry I should have more clear: there are a couple of better strength weapons, but not many. The ruins greatsword and giant crusher hammer are what I finally ditched my normal greatsword for and they weren’t *too* bad to upgrade.

I have to be honest that the weapon upgrade requirements in this game are mental.

Somber Stones (aka Twinkling Titanite) used on Unique/Boss Weapons only takes 10 stones to get to +10 (the max level).

Regular Stones used for, well, everything, takes 97(!) stones to get to +25 (the max level).

Thats so out-of-whack its unreal! 🤪

+25 as a goal is kinda crazy, but i imagine they designed it that way so you'd have to venture far & wide to get everything you needed.

Yes I was quite shocked when I got the ruins greatsword to 10 and I got the “god-slaying weapon” achievement! The last stone I needed was a somber ancient dragon bone smithing stone, or something.

The prawn wizards? I’ve cleared that out. Was mostly just 4s for the sombers. Unless the mobs drop them.

Would the Claymore be a good alternative Sword I can add ashes to? Thinking about not just this fight but other times. Seems a shame not to use any of the ashes.

The claymore is so good that I have to make an active effort not to use it. It’s the best weapon in Dark Souls by a mile.

At the stage I’m at now, I’ve got the bell bearings to buy all the stones up to +8 and can do so for about 400k. I’ve got a spot open to me where I can farm 91k in about 5 minutes. So at this point it’s pretty easy to upgrade any weapon to +24.

On the subject of

  Reveal hidden contents

Rhedan

I feel like in that area I did this weird sequence break:

  Reveal hidden contents

I warped in via a portal rather than going up by the front gate. There were no enemies around other than two big liondogs in a courtyard. After I beat Rhedan, then the banquet room became a boss room, AND when I tried to have a look around the front gate, this time it was teeming with enemies, got in by the side, and did a bit of exploration as loads of doors were now open around the castle. But in some cases I was coming up behind enemies, so it feels like all this only "activated" if you ride up to the front gate, or it really was after beating Rhedan all the trash moves in, as the "festival" is over. Or I had done a cool sequence break with the portal.

Or it's a bug.

Elden Ring

It was weird because I first arrived there

Spoiler

during the festival and bar the two beasts, nobody was about, plus loads of doors were locked and couldn't be interacted with. I could see items behind them, so it confused the hell out of me. The only way to reset the place was if you talk to that announcer guy after beating Radahn, who has retreated into a building, then warp out and in again. So easy to miss...

From what i've heard there are

Spoiler

7 of each max level stones per playthrough, so you can definitely experiment.

This is my only real complaint about the game. I’ve gathered loads of great looking weapons but the thought of farming stones and using so many runes to make them half decent is crazy.

At level 107 and I’m still using a 1h sword I got in Limgrave (now at +19) or a Greataxe from a boss remembrance and a few shields which I alternate depending on the situation. A preview of what the stats would look like when upgraded would be helpful at the least.

I have a finger seal which I have attached spells easily enough, but for some reason I have a staff and I can't attach any spells to it?. What am I doing wrong?.

Are the spells you're trying to use definitely sorceries (not incantations)? A staff will only cast sorceries and a seal will only cast incantations.

The GreatSword can take you through the game but ***WARNING!!!! ****there is, what MUST be a bug, in that if you apply an ashes to it and make it heavy, it will max out at +24, and if you fully upgrade to 25, it will do LESS damage.

This appears to be a bug with heavy weapon scaling, as it also happens with my other +24 weapon, the brick hammer.

Having said that, the frost ashes on the great sword for a strength build is the way to go! and once you get a certain summon :-

Spoiler

mimic tear

ho-ho-holly fuck is that good shit! stun lock central! its how i beat her...

Thats what the wiki is for :P

and by end game , you can take any weapon to one below max upgrade.

and there is a farming location for runes which is so so so quick and easy! (once you can get there that is)

I understand that, but can you point me how to attach spells to the staff?. I thought it was at the bonfire but I can't it to work. For example the spell to illuminate an area with this blue light is something I should be able to attach.

Pretty sure it should be exactly the same as for incantations. Choose the "memorise spell" option at a grace point, then choose a slot at the top of the screen, and select a spell to put in it from the bottom of the screen. Maybe you don't have enough Int to use the spell?

You should also kills the mobs there. As you get more powerful you can clear out more and more at a time. Hoarfrost stomp is very useful there.
