Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

Rykard and Radahn both down in the same day let's gooooo! 8-)

My Radahn fight was MUCH easier at level 88 than it was at level 70, as you might imagine haha. My summons lasted much longer as well. Was almost tempted to try and solo him but what am I really proving being so overlevelled anyway lol. Also, fuck that guy.

120 hours and still not investigated the capital. Might dip my toes in there tomorrow.

PSA 1: You can mark Sites of Grace on the map, if you want to indicate that a particular area is complete, for example. From the map, press Y to being up the SoG list and then click the right stick to mark them. A little star will appear next to them in the menu. I'm 77 hours in and only just fucking learnt this!

PSA 2: The second free episode of Bonfireside Chat's Elden Ring series is up:

An excellent podcast. Gary reckons this is his favourite From game, which is a pretty big deal! Definitely recommended.

Is it me or is the sewer area harder than anything else before? I am getting wrecked in there and I'm level 120.

I didn’t find it particularly difficult, just confusing for a long while until you figure out the layout. I don’t remember what level I was, but it was below 120. I was full strength and two handing a big weapon which could one shot most things in there with a well placed jump attack (two or three for the ogres). The ogres are definitely annoying, as are cramped pipes with basilisks in. I’d recommend just taking your time and not rushing. It’s an area built to punish rushing.

Radahn was dramatically nerfed with the recent patch. ;)

I don't see anything in the patch notes

I literally searched for his name in them when they came out lol. But just checked again. This would make a lot of sense though as he was doing dramatically less damage.

According to data miners and from seeing Limmy beat him easily this afternoon... When I fought him I couldn't even stay on Torrent at the start. I had to roll dodge through his homing arrows. Then the following barrages of arrows as you get closer would almost always hit me at full speed on Torrent. Then at close quarters he was insanely hyperactive, a flurry of swipes and magic. I only managed to beat him because he glitched and stopped attacking.

Hey can someone give me a little hint please.  I'm a bit stuck / lost in the Capital.

Spoiler

So I naturally first found my way into the sewers, lol.  That seems like a maze and it's own area, given it's called the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, and all.  I decided to stop exploring there and return to the outside.

I'm pretty sure I've diligently explored everywhere topside, but must be missing something.. I've opened sevela 'shortcuts' that lead to places Iv'e already been, kicked down ladders, etc.  I've found a broken bridge behind a combat lion, fought a tree spirit (not the horrible infected one, but a regular one), killed every enemy I could and made my way to a massive door and.. it doesn't even have an open prompt!

Can someone point me in the right direction, gently?  Or do I need to go down? :eyebrows:

Edit - wait!

Spoiler

Maybe I climb up the big dragon!?!

MtBB is ruining me now after I was so close to victory earlier. I do think its attacks in the 2nd phase are a bit much:

Spoiler

"Hey I'm not sure if this does enough damage on its own. What if we add a duration of gradual damage on top of the base damage? Oh, and maybe we could reduce the player's maximum health too!"

I know the answer is "don't get hit lol" but when you're playing that carefully for so long and one mistimed roll ends your whole career...

Ooooh new favourite weapon!!

I was getting a bit tired of the Claymore - it's a bit too slow and DPS wise is losing out to my spiked mace, especially against smaller enemies.  So I thought I'd hunt through my chest for some straight / long swords and see what we had.  Bought a longsword from the shop, levelled it as high as I could with the materials available to buy (+12).  In my box I had both Regalia of Eochaid and the Ornamental straight sword.  Both looked good and required somber stones, of which I've basically used NONE the entire playthrough so far.

So took them both to +6 (which is where my inventory of somber stones started getting low in numbers) and took them for a spin..  Both neat, weird weapon arts, but really quite interesting!  The Regalia of Eochaid was winning though, I presume because of ARC scaling, and I have quite high arcane (20)... Hitting normal enemies, longsword did 176, Ornamental did 190, Eochaid did 240!

So I went back to the smith.. I had enough stones to get it to +9, that's one off top level, isn't it?  It's fucking mad good now! :D I was worried about losing the magic damage on enemies that are strong against it, but 327 phys damage is still great for a straight sword!  Amazing.  against those same enemies as I orginaily tested the 3, it now does like ~360 damage :D

Also - PSA everyone needs to at least get their vigor to 40, it makes the game sooooooo much more manageable.  I would literally prioritise it above all else, aside from what you need to use weapons/spells.

So - was Radahn actually nerfed in the recent patch? I ask, because he seems to have been a complete roadblock for a lot of people, but I beat him easily with the insane number of summons you are given. I thought it's supposed to be a festival so lets make it one! 🙂

I was very patient - just waited till he was battering some of the others, then rode in and gave him a few hits and high-tailed it away again. I've no idea where to go now though - the falling star landed somewhere but the game is "pretty big" to put it mildly. Am I supposed to have some sort of hint of where it is (short of looking it up online)?

Did you talk to Blaidd on the battlefield after the fight? He points you in the right direction.

Vigor is absolutely fine at 15 until the Academy as long as you have okay armour. I slowly worked it up to 30 across Caelid, Atlus and the Capital though tacked on the scarseal for an extra 5. If you've heavy armour - I'm mostly in Radahn's at the moment, you can trade some vigor from endurance.

Anyway, some absolutely brutal stuff in this for pure strength builds.

Spoiler

Dual Gargoyles in Nekron are an utter nightmare, even with a summons and a mimic.

Big health pool. Check.

Poision AoE attack. Check.

Poise busting attacks. Check

Ability to abruptly fly off out of trouble. Check.

Two of them. But if course.

Also who the hell thought

Spoiler

Preceptor Miriam

Was a good idea?Resorted to arrows in the end, pure melee seemed impossible.

There's literally no point in a pure strength build doing Miriam, man.  It's ok for not every build/playstyle to be able to access all the content.

I mean I'll not do squat with her reward but every build should be able to take out everything but with different strengths / weakness. Final phase seemed literally impossible with a ranged attack and I was vastly over levelled.

I don't agree.  Its like arguing you should be able to beat every enemy in zelda irrespective of whether you have the right item or not.

Switching to a high end Faith build (80) from same INT along with some of the highest end faith/well respected incantations has been uhhhh kinda underwhelming actually. The damage and utility of the spells themselves are good but fuck me, the cast time and wind up time for the majority of them is soooooooooooooooooo long.

What almost makes it worth it is the +10 version of the sword I'm using which is made from the remembrance of the last boss. The weapon art on that is just stupid for PVE (you've probably seen it used in the 1 million farming runes!!!! videos). The sword itself is kinda slow, feels like a claymore in moveset and speed. But the weapon art woooooooooo it's nuts. It's like pre patch horfrost stomp on steroids. I'd say overall INT builds are better. It was worth doing because the build can get you 40k runes on OG game in about 10 seconds so you can get enough to keep experimenting and your only limitations are taking things from +9 to +10 upgrade wise as those items are limited. @imp Let me know if you try out an arcane build!

However, it has allowed me to take my fashion soulz to the next level while getting great resistance and poise. Behold, the dark golden lord whose headgear looks right out of monty python!

Fuck you, so-called "Draconian Tree Knight" or whatever it is. The most mither I've had with any boss so far, took about 25 goes but hooray! And he's not even a real boss.

Was fun traipsing all the way through that easy area to find out I could get oneshot by him, or the death bird, and then leaving again.
